Ok what shoes can I wear with dresses and black tights that feel like trainers?

I walk all over London for work between meetings for my corporate type job. I wear dresses and skirts, and in the winter this means black tights.

To make things more difficult I have plantar fascitis. While I have boots and loafers from 'comfortable' brands like Gabor, and I have also added squishy insoles, it's just not enough and my feet can really hurt. What I should be wearing is sports type trainers but they don't work at all with my work wardrobe, particularly in the winter with the tights. Summer I can get away with more. No one is going to tell me off for wearing the wrong shoes but I need something that looks ok.

So, please help. What smartish shoes are there out there as soft as trainers?!

I have PF and wear Hush puppies Rudy knee high boots with dresses for work in London when I can't get away with trainers.

These are incredibly comfortable and work with everything www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/f-mode-leather-flatform-chelsea-boots-p-FH4#090

What about something silver?

I have PF. Arch supports completely sort it out and you can put them on almost all shoes and boots.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/11/2024 06:22

Another vote for Enetor insoles for PF.

I wear mine in Solovair boots, and sized up half a size to fit.

Try Fly London. Their motto is "Why walk when you can fly". I definitely felt comfortable walking for ages in their shoes when I needed hip surgery and was fed up of wearing trainers especially when I needed to be smarter. They have lots of fashionable styles that are very well made.

Hi there, I have PF. I usually wear Vionics shoes/trainers. I also have orthotics made to measure which I put into other shoes or trainers to make them comfortable. As Vionics are expensive, I bought on Vinted to try them out first.

Oceangreyscale · 19/11/2024 06:56

I've tried various insoles but even with insoles and so called comfortable boots it's not enough after 8,000 steps. Are the enertor ones particularly good?

I do already have the fitflop rally trainers in silver which I wear with dresses in the summer and they are comfortable enough but they don't work in the winter, I need something which isn't a trainer.

I have plantar fasciitis, it's a nightmare and has been going on for months. I can only wear these shoes:

I think they work well enough with a dress and tights - not totally un-trainer-like, but they blend in well enough to be smart-ish.

These aren't smart enough but they look comfortable and are a lot cheaper than the trainers I'm buying so I'm going to get some to try for more casual stuff!

@TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams Are Brooks trainers waterproof? I am struggling to find comfortable walking trainers that are waterproof.

On Cloud are waterproof I believe. Brooks are not.

I wear these with dresses/skirts and black tights and I find them just as comfortable as wearing trainers.

Might give these a go, do you find they come up bigger or smaller? I'm about a 5 but with wide feet.

I like these, are they really trainer like comfortable and soft though? They don't look it particularly.

I'll also look at Fly and at Sole Bliss, thanks for the recommendations.

Can’t you wear those special insoles with normal shoes? Just size up?
I got some insoles and it solved the issue. Buy 3-4 pairs so you don’t have to keep remembering to put them in

No, like I said originally I have insoles in normal shoes and it's not sufficient. I walked 14,000 steps around London yesterday and my feet still really hurt this morning. Basically I need really soft but still supportive soles that reduce the pressure.

I have Ecco Nouvelle. These. The comfort of trainers and very robust. But look like shoes. Leather. High quality. Can walk miles in them.

BigDahliaFan · 19/11/2024 07:31

Have you done the alphabet stretches, recommended on here and really helped. I'm convinced menopause caused mine.

WhereAreWeNow · 19/11/2024 07:47

Have you looked at Fitflop shoes? They have some nice ballerina and loafer styles in which claim to be as comfortable as trainers.
Vionic are also very good.

Itsannamay · 19/11/2024 07:55

What insoles do you use that are squishy and have support?

honeylulu · 19/11/2024 08:13

Watching with interest as I have a similar issue plus osteoarthritis and have to wear orthotic insoles. Before covid I had a couple of pairs of Gabor low heeled shoes I could do a lot of walking in but now they aren't comfy enough. I bought some plain black slip on trainers from Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trainers-Athletic-Running-Sneakers-Lightweight/dp/B0BDLT9P4G?pd_rd_w=Av15T&content-id=amzn1.sym.ade69734-37fb-4c15-a0cf-ba58f907e2f5&pf_rd_p=ade69734-37fb-4c15-a0cf-ba58f907e2f5&pf_rd_r=ZBK26KW693R37N5SSFYN&pd_rd_wg=kMeU1&pd_rd_r=1ee90b7b-2977-4ee9-81ff-70c93240d711&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_d_csi_rtpb_bap_sim_0_i

These are just about passable as loafers with long dresses and trousers and very comfy. But the result is that I wear only these all the time, despite having a cupboard full of shoes and I'm a bit sick of them!

Has anyone tried Geox shoes/boots? I bought the Geox Lisboa sandals in the summer and they are so comfortable. I even climbed the volcano in Santorini wearing them. I also love FitFlops flip flops and wondering about the shoes they do. Any recommendations welcome!

Not that anyone has asked yet but I bought some Bareback equestrian boots to wear for wet/muddy walls as the lack of support from my wellies was murderous. Again, pricey but no regrets. They are even just about smart enough to wear for non welly occasions.

Or something like this?

@Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead can I ask where these shoes are from please

Geraldinescat · 19/11/2024 08:42

I had plantar fasciitis a while ago. The Orthopaedic surgeon told me not to wear flat shoes. He also said that Vionic have some of the best support. I’m wearing Vionic slippers right now, they are really good.

Spinet · 19/11/2024 08:44

Fitflops actually rid me of my PF. They have a work shoes collection (though I haven't tried them, I had some baseball boot type things).
