I went for a new nursing bra suitable for my bridesmaid dress last week, went in 40 D came out 36 G

But I am pregnant and breastfeeding, well that is my excuse and I'm sticking to it

bigspender30 · 27/04/2008 14:06

I know!! I went a a 36F and came out a 30GG
-ridiculous how we can all get it so wrong!!

Fimbo · 27/04/2008 14:22

Ah well, at least in M & S we should get the pick of the bunch in the sales with all these odd sizes!

Just been on the M & S website - nothing in my new found size - pah!

debenhams is good for fuller bust

oxocube · 27/04/2008 14:36

Ooh Fimbo, I'm going there in a couple of days. How did they tell your size? Their web page says they don't measure, just give you lots of bras to try to see which is the perfect fit. Did it take long to fit you? I have always ordered Bravissimo bras and bikinis over the internet but suspect I am in the wrong size (34 DD) hence going there personally.

oxocube · 27/04/2008 14:37

Oh and do your boobs look different ie higher and giving you more of a waist and all the stuff they tell you? Sorry for so many questions

TsarChasm · 27/04/2008 14:42

Not tried Bravissimo but M&S confuse the wotsit out of me re bra sizes.

I have been measured but the size they suggest seems to change depending on the style of bra you are trying so you can never definatively say I'm a 36c or whatever cos it keeps changing.

Fimbo · 27/04/2008 14:46

Hi Oxo,
Firstly they look at the size you are wearing. They say you shouldn't be able to pull it at all at the back. That's why I went down to a 32 because the back was too big. The back should sit much lower down your back than you anticipate and should be straight across without any pull on it.

The front of the bra where the two halves meet (can't describe it any better than this!) should sit flat against the breastbone, again there shouldn't be any room to get fingers inbetween etc.

The whole of the breast should be covered by the cup (unless a plunge style I presume from their catalogue).

The fitter starts with the back size first and then they increase the cup size until your whole boob is covered.

I went for a smooth bra for wearing under t-shirts, it looks massive but is very comfortable and you don't notice it. It's not a bra to wear on your first date thats for sure but they do have some very pretty ones.

I guess my boobs kind of feel hiked up to where they should be. The look more spread out rather than pushed together.

I haven't bought anymore, as I am trying to lose some weight, although my dh is keen for me to get the plunge bikini and shorts set for our holidays in a couple of weeks time!

HTH

really cynical - but surely they are bound to say you are some different, mad size that nowhere else stocks...?

Tinker · 27/04/2008 14:50

Aren't the cup and back size related proportionately though? ie the cup of a 36C and 32FF are prob not too different. Or rather, a 32C and 36C wouldn't be the same cup size with a just a different back size? I think, anyway. Bra sizes are a mystery to me (she says, still clinging on to her 34B with no idea as to whether it is right or not)

ZeMNetterWithZeBigBoobies · 27/04/2008 14:50

I see so many women who wear their back sizes too big to accommodate a smaller cup size.

They don't realise that your back should be supporting your weight not your shoulders. They're the ones who will end up with coat hanger shoulders.

I'm an expert y'see

Fimbo · 27/04/2008 14:54

I actually agree with you Sillytilly.

minster · 27/04/2008 15:02

Tinker that's right a D cup on a 32inch back is not the same as a D cup on a 38inch back

"a smaller back size will also be smaller in the cup (i.e. a 34E is smaller in the back and cup than a 36E). For example, if you find a 36E fits you well in the cup but is too big around the back, try a 34F."

lljkk · 27/04/2008 15:08

Fimbo -- does your new bra feel comfy? If I wore a bra as tight as you describe I'd get back and stomach aches.

Fimbo · 27/04/2008 15:11

lljkk - no it feels ok.

Gobbledigook · 27/04/2008 15:14

Ha ha! I went to Selfridges back in Jan Fimbo - I went in a 34B and came out a 28/30DD. Ha ha!

Gobbledigook · 27/04/2008 15:14

Problem is - there are now very few places taht actually do my size. To get a 28D or 28DD is a nightmare.

Disenchanted · 27/04/2008 15:16

I might go there

do you have to get your tits out?

or stand there in a bra?

Fimbo · 27/04/2008 15:17

Hi GDG.

The cups on my new one are mahoosive. Its the type of thing you look at and think, I am never going to fit into that.

Actually it would be interesting to go to Selfridges and see what they have to say.

I was in London last weekend .

I've been a Bravissimo customer for about 10 yrs, s I was already a 32F in my teens. I went up to a J when my milk came in after DS and there wasn't such a range of nice nursing bras at the time.

I finally got round to getting remeasured about 6 weeks ago after 18 months of breastfeeding and was pleased to find that I've slimmed down a bit and am now a 30GG.

But... I've just found out I'm pg and it's all up in the air again

I have a fairly slim frame but enormous boobs (proportionally) and Bravissimo has really made me feel more comfortable about them. I had several of their fitted shirts for work and they were great - a waist at last!

Tinker · 27/04/2008 15:18

I fasten mine on the tighest clasp and can still easily pull it away from my back (gets excited that could really be a 32C!)

Fimbo · 27/04/2008 15:19

Yes you do have to stand in your bra. But the fitter will go outside if you want them to whilst you are trying the bras on. They also provide wraps and a t-shirt in the fitting rooms.

MaeWest · 27/04/2008 15:20

Disenchanted - you have the choice of getting your tits out in front of the woman, or she tactfully withdraws while you wrestle yourself into the bra.

Since having DS I've been less worried about nakedness, odd really...

Disenchanted · 27/04/2008 15:20

Hmm, think Ill leave it then

I anint showing a svelt 18 year old MY belly!
