Help! Going out of my mind...

Style-and-beauty geniuses of Mumsnet, I need you!

My partner's sister is getting married at the end of the month - winter wedding at a hotel in Glasgow.

I have been looking for WEEKS for a dress to wear and have got myself completely tied in knots.

Can someone please help suggest some dresses I could go for? Budget's up to £200-ish.

I'm 5'4, size 8-10, blonde, and 'officially' an hourglass shape but don't have much going on in the boob area. Don't suit most dark colours or jewel tones, although could manage a navy or warm green. I like a plunge neckline (lack of boobage means they tend to sit nicely) and dresses with a bit of swing in the skirt. My partner's wearing a muted green tweed three-piece, so I'm considering that element in the mix, too.

I've been considering velvet, or something nicely structured and fitted in a sturdy-ish fabric, but cannot for the life of me find anything that feels appropriate.

Needs to be warm enough (or something that I can add a stole or shawl to), partner's-family-appropriate, and able to be delivered soon!

Any suggestions VERY welcome – I'm feeling crazy!

This is pretty, but nothing like the other suggestions so maybe a wild card

Oh wow I love this so much. I have absolutely nowhere to wear it but feel like I NEED it. It's so elegant and pretty and just lovely. Bet you looked great!

Absolutely no need for that comment.

It's a figure of speech.

Never mind the fact you have zero idea about the mental health of this OP.

Jeezy peeps - feels appropriate for a thread about a Scottish wedding.

🙄

You can’t breathe without “triggering” someone these days honestly.

It’s a common figure of speech and you don’t know anything about the OP to know whether she’s lucky or not

DiscoinFrisco · 09/11/2024 21:50

That's a bit unnecessary Gemma7619.

Presumably this thread has popped up in trending - it’s in style and beauty, where people talk about dresses.

Ghost usually has some lovely dresses or Finery at the more budget-friendly end

I don't understand the need for "warmth" unless you are outside for photos etc. All Glasgow hotels are heated to hot hot hot in December

Ha! I was JUST on that website looking at those dresses too!

There's one similar to that one that isn't in velvet, so I wondered if that might be less 'eveningy' – and then this blue one keeps catching my eye, but it might be a bit sexy for a family wedding...?

If you accessorize it with a necklace to fill in the neckline, that dress would be lovely. Also suggest a bracelet and a pashmina. For the evening do, I'd remove the necklace and add a pair of statement earrings. Job done!

puzzleofapuzzle · 10/11/2024 10:08

Wow, what a flood of great suggestions!

Thanks so much everyone – just having some extra brains to bounce ideas around with makes such a difference.

I think half the battle is just not being able to imagine things 'on', so I might just order a few options to try and commit to picking the best of the bunch...

Good also to know I'm not the only one who finds this weirdly difficult!!
