Dove beauty bar... It's a cleanser???

I've just seen Nadine Baggott saying this can be used as a cleanser as well as to wash body in the shower? Any experiences please? My skin is very dry and I usually use a balm but budget it tight! Thanks

Well you can use any kind of soap or wash to clean your face. But Dove is a non-soap-based cleanser and is marketed as being one quarter moisturiser, so it will be more moisturising on your face than soap. Personally I'm fine with soap as long as I moisturise afterwards!

Thank you! I think that's why I'm unsure... As have never used anything other than balm on my face in case it's too drying. Probably just need to buy a bar to try!

I've tried Dove, it does a good job of cleansing. For me it was better than most face washes in that it didn't irritate but it leaves my skin a bit dry if I use it all the time.

I tend to use coconut oil as a cleanser, removed with a warm face cloth, then a rich moisturizer like blue tub Nivea Cream. Both are cheap and last a long time.

Coconut oil! Amazing thank you for the tip.

I have used Dove as a facial cleanser, just moisturise well afterwards.

Interesting replies, personally find Dove bars absolutely useless, they don't seem to clean skin properly. If I use it in the shower I get terrible back acney, would never use it on my face.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 09/11/2024 07:52

When it first came out that’s how it was marketed. Friend used it and got horrific (like cystic) spots across her cheeks.
Its doesn’t clean because it’s not proper soap.

DustyLee123 · 09/11/2024 07:54

I’ve used Dove on my face for many years without any problem, as have DH and my kids. I like the Shea butter if I can get it.

Same. They don't clean and if you wear make up I wouldn't advise them for the face

@FamilyPhoto and @DustyLee123 please can I ask which moisturiser you use with the dove bar on your face?

Coconut oil! Amazing thank you for the tip.

No problem! If you did want to try coconut oil Lidl, Asda and Aldi own brand are around £2.00 per jar. Can also be used as a body moisturiser.

KnittedCardi · 09/11/2024 13:40

I use it in the shower, and wash my face in the shower, so yes, I've always used it for both body and face. Fine for me.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 09/11/2024 15:17

I find that as long as I apply a decent moisturiser straight after washing and drying my face, it doesn't much matter what I use to actually wash my face. I use a balm or lotion to remove make-up, but then wash with a face wash or soap, or even handwash or shower gel. Moisturiser straight after - no dry skin.

Duckyfondant · 09/11/2024 15:21

I find it painfully drying!

FamilyPhoto · 09/11/2024 15:46

@SoapCollector I live in Spain so I use a facial factor 50 moisturising sunscreen ( current one is Avon) then a light moisturiser such as Kyrey facial daytime vit E.

DaisyStarburst · 09/11/2024 16:01

I use coconut oil too, it's great at removing waterproof mascara.

Thank you for your reply @FamilyPhoto. I've not heard of Kyrey as a brand in the UK.

I use a very small amount as a hair oil too! (Dry curly hair here) If you don't like it op coconut oil can be used up for cooking and baking.

halfpasteleven · 10/11/2024 07:36

To the PPs that have used coconut oil as a cleanser:

Do you buy it in solid form and let it warm up to an oil consistency? Or how do you use it please?

DaisyStarburst · 10/11/2024 08:15

I buy it in solid form, put a small bit in my hand and rub together to melt it then rub into my face, wipe off with a warm wet flannel.

Spectre8 · 10/11/2024 08:23

Well who knew.. not me! I've been using dove soap in shower for years and always felt cleaner than using shower gel. Also then use it to clean my face in shower too find it cleans my make up off really well.

Well now I know...I'll just carry on as I am lol

Caterpillargirl23 · 10/11/2024 08:26

I found Dove drying as well. If you want to use a bar product to clean your face (not to remove make up) try olive oil soap. I still need a moisturiser afterwards, but it's not as drying as Dove.

I do the same as @DaisyStarburst 🙂 Sometimes it's quite a hard consistency, depending on room temperature. When it's really cold in winter I scrape it out of the tub with a spoon or with the back of my nail. @DaisyStarburst do you use it as a face moisturizer too?

SoapCollector · 10/11/2024 10:20

Sorry my above post was in answer to @halfpasteleven

AmberCrow · 10/11/2024 10:25

Hmm.
Well I’m of the belief that soap is soap. So I use simple soap for everything face and body, I don’t even moisturise. And at 41 I don’t look any older than I should a few fine lines appearing on my forehead but that’s it.
However, I have never been abroad and always wear a wide brimmed hat in the summer.
I genuinely think the beauty industry is a bit of a con, and good skin is much more down to lucky genes and staying out of the sun.
