Am I a spring? Aspiring to a flattering capsule wardrobe

TheRealCannyFraddock · 03/11/2024 14:42

Can anyone help please, I am hopeless at this and want to curate a small but lovely wardrobe of items that help me look my best post forthcoming 50th. Knowing 'my colours' would help and if I fit in a season and can pick up a set of swatches I will be much assisted. I don't often go to the city so need to be targeted when shopping, and changing room lights distort everything so much, and I get sensory overload and either panic buy or give up and go to a bookshop!
Using things I already own I believe the navyish blue and (jade?) green are my best, the lavender is okay, but the pink is floridly horrific and makes my rosacea extra visible. I thought the latter was a spring colour so now am thrown. Oh and an image showing my eye colour in case that helps.

You look better in the cool colours, navy and lilac. So winter or maybe summer. The jade and pink are too warm for you but there are cool shades of pink you could wear

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 03/11/2024 15:15

I don't see any difference.

All I can say is I like the colour of the jade green piece. It looks like it's a sort smock top/ fisherman's top and looks interesting.

I don't like the colour or the material of the lavender/lilac item and it looks sort of anoraky.

I have no idea what the post above me means. All I'm seeing is one garment I don't like the look of (the lavender anorak) , 1 ,I do (the green smock) and 2 random pieces of cloth. I don't particularly like that shade of pink, but that would apply to anything or anyone wearing it.

NotMeNoNo · 03/11/2024 15:23

My first impression is cool. Why not have your colours done in-person as a 50th birthday present? If you were planning to spend a bit on clothes it could pay for itself in avoiding those panic purchases.

TheRealCannyFraddock · 03/11/2024 15:27

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle Thank you for responding I appreciate the input. These are completely random pieces of clothing I have used just to try and see what colours work and don't in the hope that I fit into a 'colour season' and can use the wider palette as a guideline for shopping. I have been going round trying towels and curtains too! So the items themselves aren't too important. I can't imagine anyone suiting that pink either, I should never ever buy things just because they are in a sale!

I think the teal/jade colour really suits you.

TheRealCannyFraddock · 03/11/2024 15:31

@Flur and @NotMeNoNo thanks, I have always believed I have warm colouring but am really blind in this area so it is interesting you guys see cool. I think I might treat myself to colour analysis, I hate bad purchases and it would be worthwhile if it means I don't end up with any more pink horrors!

There are apps to get colours done

Thank you, I like it back! Aside from anything else I realise I need a bigger better-lit mirror!

Do you know of any that are considered good? I have been googling and completing questionnaires, but they often helpfully say 'do you have warm or cool undertones'? I don't know!!!

Actually I was a bit harsh on the pink. I don't know about it "suiting" or not suiting.

I just saw 4 colours - 2 I liked - the navy and green, one which on a second look is ok. It's a jumper? and one, the lavender which I don't like at all. That wouldn't change no matter who was wearing them.

Cards on the table, I think colours and seasons are nonsense. I've never bought anything because it was my "colour" or not bought because it wasn't and I never notice that effect on anyone else. It's the garment I notice, look at and judge.

If I were forced to pick one, I'd agree. It might be because of the 4, it's the nicest colour.

SuspiciousAloysius · 03/11/2024 15:39

You look like a soft summer to me.

TheRealCannyFraddock · 03/11/2024 15:52

I feel the jade makes me look less flushed/blotchy and in fact clearer and brighter - I also like it. I wouldn't wear a colour I didn't like because it suited me but there are plenty I like that look awful on. Maybe rosacea and very dark shadows under eyes need more care regarding colour. I would particularly love guidance on a pale neutral for blouses because white white looks extremely awful, but as anyone who has ever painted a house knows there are 100's of whites to choose from!

but the pink is floridly horrific and makes my rosacea extra visible

I didn't notice that in any of your photos.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 03/11/2024 17:01

I think you might be a soft autumn though it's hard to tell. Of the four colours you've shown, the lavender is the least flattering. Could you repost with more of your skin and hair visible? You can always scribble/blank out the main part of your face if you don't want to be identifiable.

SwedishEdith · 03/11/2024 17:06

From the glimpses of your face, you're reminding me of Annabelle Croft. Unfortunately, in most photos of her, she's wearing white but I wonder if looking at what she wears might help you see what works for her?

TheOGCCL · 03/11/2024 17:46

These are all cool colours and imo not great on you. Even the navy is a cold one. Do you have anything rust or brown or anything warm?

TheRealCannyFraddock · 03/11/2024 18:01

Thanks! I have been trying on everything I can find and have concluded I have really bad lighting. in the gloom it is hard to be sure of anything so I will repeat in day light and try to include more skin @SwordBilledHummingbird! One thing I am fairly certain of is that 'muddy' colours make me look unwell.
I would just like to determine if I am warm or cool, that would be something.
I am not sure if this counts as warm @TheOGCCL but I tried a very different pink and it looks, to me, more pleasing. It still picks out the redness in my skin but I think in a less unflattering way. Am putting both below for comparison. @SwedishEdith I wish, Annabelle Croft is an icon and looks wonderful in everything!

You're definitely warm-toned. Your skin has gold and peach tones and your hair has golden tones where the light hits it. I would say autumn rather than spring because your colouring looks quite muted, it's not always easy to tell from photos though. You might find that you suit colours from both Warm Autumn and Warm Spring palettes, that's where I would start anyway.

I've used Style Me happy/Emily Innes to have my colours done after seeing a recommendation on here. You have to send in a range of photos to be analysed but it's all.done online. Fairly affordable too https://www.stylemehappy.co.uk/
Then there's a really helpful Facebook group where you can ask advice once you know your season

@SwordBilledHummingbird Fabulous, thank you! I will look at those and @GandTtwice I am going to have the online analysis, thank you for the recommendation.

Your eyes are the same as mine, equally fair but I think you do have golden tones to your skin whereas I'm basically blue! Although bare in mind camera phones vary.

I had my colours done, it helped a bit in ruling some things out but they were already colours I didn't like. I need bright and saturated colours, but shades are very specific, my navy has a brighter blue in it than most navys and is hard to find.

I just can't see it myself but can see it on other people. My ds has similar colouring to me and I use him as a model.

Sorry I am not helping. I do think the jade looks lovely on you and from what I can see if your face your skin/hair/lips work wonderfully together.

suburburban · 03/11/2024 20:27

I like the dark pink on you

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 03/11/2024 20:28

I like all the colours bar the green.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 03/11/2024 20:29

The darker pink is also a lovely colour on you.
