Am I a spring? Aspiring to a flattering capsule wardrobe

Can anyone help please, I am hopeless at this and want to curate a small but lovely wardrobe of items that help me look my best post forthcoming 50th. Knowing 'my colours' would help and if I fit in a season and can pick up a set of swatches I will be much assisted. I don't often go to the city so need to be targeted when shopping, and changing room lights distort everything so much, and I get sensory overload and either panic buy or give up and go to a bookshop!
Using things I already own I believe the navyish blue and (jade?) green are my best, the lavender is okay, but the pink is floridly horrific and makes my rosacea extra visible. I thought the latter was a spring colour so now am thrown. Oh and an image showing my eye colour in case that helps.

@TheRealCannyFraddock Nope that's cold as well! You need to compare some warm colours. I am unconvinced cool colours are for you though.

Chewbecca · 03/11/2024 22:34

I don't think you will know without having your colours 'done' in person, professionally.
I am a dark / deep summer. My colouring is vaguely similar to yours, including rosacea.
I find it really helpful to know because firstly I know exactly which clothes for head for and secondly all my clothes go together really easily.
I when I wear my 'best' colours is always when I get 'ooh, you look well' compliments.

I do get people saying they don't 'believe', but I am naturally not great with colour, knowing what suits me and what works together so found it really helpful to have a bit of a guide to work with.

According to the responses-

You might find that you suit colours from both Warm Autumn and Warm Spring palettes

You're definitely warm-toned. Your skin has gold and peach tones and your hair has golden tones where the light hits it. autumn rather than spring

These are all cool colours and not great on you. Even the navy is a cold one

you might be a soft autumn though it's hard to tell.

You look like a soft summer to me

first impression is cool

You look better in the cool colours, navy and lilac. So winter or maybe summer. The jade and pink are too warm for you but there are cool shades of pink you could wear

So winter or maybe summer

From that you are
Warm Autumn, Warm Spring, warm-toned soft autumn, soft summer, cool winter, you look better in cool colours but cool colours aren't great on you.

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle Thank you for responding I appreciate the input. These are completely random pieces of clothing I have used just to try and see what colours work and don't in the hope that I fit into a 'colour season' and can use the wider palette as a guideline for shopping. I have been going round trying towels and curtains too! So the items themselves aren't too important. I can't imagine anyone suiting that pink either, I should never ever buy things just because they are in a sale!

that pink would suit me, I'm a Spring

coxesorangepippin · 04/11/2024 02:26

I do think you suit the pink, your skin looks luminous in it.

TheRealCannyFraddock · 04/11/2024 07:10

Thanks so much for all the responses. I do feel it is likely that if you suit a certain set of colours then you can extrapolate from that with a degree of confidence to include others with the same characteristics. I do want swatches to shop with because I am so poor at assessing what I am looking at for myself and it only takes a few degrees of difference to have a different impact.
I am 'colour blind' in that respect but I better comprehend differences in clarity and intensity of colour. @KingOfPeace I seem to suit non-greyed non-sludgy 'clean' versions, I think that is what you are describing. Getting it right makes an enormous difference. I thought some of the talk about colours was crazy - that it would make your jawline look sharper for example but it seems to be true, and skin looks as @coxesorangepippin says, luminous in best colours. My mum has two blouses, same make and model, different colours. When she wears one of them she looks so well and people remark on it.
I will report back once I have been analysed!

I feel the jade makes me look less flushed/blotchy and in fact clearer and brighter - I also like it. I wouldn't wear a colour I didn't like because it suited me but there are plenty I like that look awful on. Maybe rosacea and very dark shadows under eyes need more care regarding colour. I would particularly love guidance on a pale neutral for blouses because white white looks extremely awful, but as anyone who has ever painted a house knows there are 100's of whites to choose from!

That is because it is green. You remember those colour correctors in a green shade that people put on their faces to disguise any redness? Not quite the right green to do that but still.....

Geneticsbunny · 04/11/2024 08:42

Could you do a photo with black and white on either side of your face and then one with cream and brown. That would give a better idea of if you are warm or cool. And like others I would like to see what a range of autumn colours look like because the green which suits you could be winter or autumn

OuterSpaceCadet · 04/11/2024 11:32

If you just want to work out whether you're warm or cool, you could try a personalised foundation match service? I got a great foundation from Dcypher after seeing it recommended here. I've never ever been able to get foundation right before.

My skin is apparently slightly warm, despite being pale. My colouring looks similar to yours.

Definitely check the accuracy of your phone camera too, mine makes anything remotely turquoise or teal straight blue.

Bohomovies · 04/11/2024 11:39

You might have a neutral colouring, like I do. I've never worked out which colour season I am because I am neutral and I feel it doesn't really work for me.

On the rosacea note, have you looked into Omnilux or similar LED face masks?

Floisme · 04/11/2024 11:54

From what you've posted, you seem to have a good idea of what colours work and don't work for you so I'm not sure why you say you're 'hopeless' at it?

By all means go and pay to have it done if you want - I know a lot of people have said they've found it helpful - but it seems to me that you already have sound instincts.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 04/11/2024 11:57

You are meant to be able to tell whether you're warm or cool toned by your vein colour ... look at your wrist, do they look more blue or green? (Blue is 'cool', green is 'warm'.) Works for me - typical Irish colouring, very blue veins.

TheRealCannyFraddock · 04/11/2024 12:25

I am confident about a few colours - I know muddy earthy shades are horrible on me, pale grey is horrific, but some beiges and camels are good - but it is the subtleties, this navy or that, where I don't trust my judgement. Same with foundation so I am definitely having someone competent advise on that, hopefully when I make a trip to a SpaceNK they will help? Otherwise I will try Decypher.
The white balance on my phone can be fooled so photos are only so useful.
Thanks @Bohomovies, I have previously had laser treatment which helped the rosacea, it was primarily to zap thread veins but took a lot of the redness out generally, I am planning to get that done again. I have also resolved to more or less avoid alcohol as it has the worst effect even in small amounts.

@WinWhenTheyreSinging mine are blue and purple. I tan deeply and easily though which seems at odds with coolness. They are very close to the surface, I don't know if that affects the colour, I have just been exercising and they are raised above the surface...

It's almost impossible to tell from photos - if you really "need" to find out then you need to bite the bullet and pay for an analysis. If you can't afford it then just keep trying different colours near your face, and trust your judgement as to which look best (this is basically what I've done). The more you practice the clearer it will become.

My colouring is similar to yours, and it's very clear to me that I can't wear black (makes me look really drained) and yellow based colours look hideous as well; as I understand it, this means that I am not a Winter or an Autumn.

Winters are supposed to look really good in black.

That's exactly what I mean - black drains me so I'm obviously not a Winter

Yes, you're right. I misread. Long day.

Princessfluffy · 06/11/2024 20:47

Hard to say from the limited pics but I'd guess Light Spring. The last pic you posted (mid pink) I think looks the best.

Do you look equally good in both silver and gold jewellery or does one suit you way more than the other?

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 07/11/2024 10:40

I don't really know the terminology of spring/summer etc but I think the jade green looks best on you, and the pink is a bit close to your own skin tone - I prefer things that are more high-contrast next to my face. You could possibly wear a lighter or darker version of the same colour.
