Properly actually moisturising night cream

Hello all

Ever since having DC my face skin has been dry and chalky and uncomfortable like a sad hessian sack.

I've tried lots of different night creams but they all seem not to touch the sides. I want to feel slathered and mucous-y, but they just feel like an "ineffective layer" on top.

Have tried hyaluronic acid serum plus cheaper (Nivea classic) moisturiser, Dr Jart ceramidin, Inkey List Peptides. No avail.

Short of lathering myself in Vaseline, any ideas?

I’ve ended up using Cerave, a bucket of it on my bedside table, and at night I slather it on my face, feet and hands. I love a spa-y scented night cream and used to use quite a few products in my routine but since my second baby I’ve given them up as nothing was stopping me waking up feeling parched of the cheek. I use almond oil on my face after a shower then cream on top before bed.

I used to use Weleda skin food, it’s extremely thick and has a nice smell. I got out of the habit but it’s a great product.

L'Occitane en Provence cream is the only one that works for me

Cannotgetyou · 28/10/2024 21:43

I have the same problem with dry skin and have started using the Caudalie Vinohydra Deep Moisturiser.

It’s a day cream but I put it on at night and have noticed a difference, plus it’s not too pricey.

Dr Jackson's.

Use whatever cream and then add a few drops of the Ordinary Squalane on top.

usernother · 28/10/2024 21:57

Superdrug vitamin E nourishing night cream. It says for normal to dry skin, but it's very good for my dry skin and only £4.99.

Interesting. Didn't think of this. Used it in my younger years on my hair. Very interesting

Boots DermaCare Ceramides Intense Hydration Serum 30ml Is great and only £7.00.

i use it in place of The Ordinary Buffet which I can’t seem to get hold of now and actually prefer it.

Cerave Moisturising Cream Pot for dry to very dry skin.

MrSeptember · 28/10/2024 22:04

I find as I have got older I need to prep.my skin for a good moisteriser. Mine is also v dry and tends to dehydrated. V nb is yo use a cleanser that doesn't even vaguely strip the skin. I have been using the farmacy clean green balm.for years but before that used almond oil and worked well. Then a good moisturising serum- I like The Ordinary Amino Acid and B5 one but havr also used basic hyaluronic acid ones. Or the Clarins Dohbel.Serum is a great all rounder. then Moisteriser. I like the hydro boost stuff from neutrogena.

Sometimes I use a treatment oil over the top too but only when I really feel I need it

Also, a hydrating mask now and again when your skin feels like this is helpful.

KingOfPeace · 28/10/2024 22:07

The massive cerave pot as pp have said. I let it sink in then do a second coat.

Maybe a face oil too? I recently read you're supposed to use them after your moisturiser but I always use before.

I have the day version. Unless the night one is very very different, it won't touch the sides with extremely dry skin.

I use good old Ponds and love it.

gcsedilemma · 28/10/2024 22:27

Astral...cheap and SO moisturizing...clears chapped skin overnight

Doublebubblegum · 28/10/2024 22:30

M&S Absolute Formula sleep cream is fab! Lovely and thick, I always use it now. You can feel it absorbing into the skin, it's lovely.

sunflower1988 · 28/10/2024 22:34

Start with a good cleanser that doesn't dey out your skin...I use cetaphil which has glycerin in and it's a game changer! That plus la Roche pose cicabaume b5 ( moisturiser)has worked wonders on my incredibly dry and sensitive skin.also..don't cleanse your face in the morning just at night.

Okitsme · 28/10/2024 22:48

I’ve just made my own, half castor oil, half jojoba oil with about 15 drops of frankincense. I tie my hair back to stop it getting greasy at night but I am really noticing a difference. While the ingredients cost about £20 you use so little I can see it lasting a year.

GetDownkeith · 28/10/2024 22:50

Agree starting with a good cleanser.
I have very dry skin and I love the Superdrug B cleansing balm. That has made a bigger difference to me than any night cream it’s also on buy one get one free just now.
I saw it recommended online somewhere and tried it because it was a bargain and it’s one of very few things I would be gutted if they stopped making it.

Yes, this is really good.
Quite often on offer, either though M&S or Ocado

thepurplepenguin · 28/10/2024 23:04

Seconding the M&S Sleep Cream, amazing stuff. It's the only product I have gone through multiples of. Occasionally I try to switch to something cheaper but I always regret it and go back! Once or twice a week I also use a facial oil under it just for a little extra boost.

bryceQ · 28/10/2024 23:05

A balm Cleanser (any) wipe with muslin cloth. Fierce Nature tallow cream. Let it sink in then thin layer of vaseline.

Lavender14 · 28/10/2024 23:07

I had the same issue.

I cleanse with micellar water, then cerave cleanser and rinse with a face cloth, then dermalogica under eye serum and cool water gel. Sometimes I'll use the garner sheet masks maybe twice a week and if its really bad I'll use dermalogica microfolliant sparingly. Drinking lots of water makes a big difference for me and I know I do this much less since I had a child to run after!

RunningOverTime · 28/10/2024 23:11

Thirsting or fourthing the M&S absolute sleep cream.

love it!
