Bum acne & shaving bum

justloveit · 23/10/2024 14:58

Hey everyone

Hope this post isn't tmi

I suffer with pimples / acne on my bum and back of my thighs.

I do shave my bum so I'm not sure if this why I'm getting acne?

I really want to try clear it up as I am self conscious about it during sex.

Does anyone have any recommendations to clear it up? Or what do you all use to shave?

I heard hibiscrub is good but I can't seem to find it anywhere I know boots stock it but my local boots don't have it atm.

Any suggestions?

How do you even see behind you to shave your bum?

Rainyaprilmonday · 23/10/2024 15:01

Shave your bum???

Jessie1259 · 23/10/2024 15:02

Are you male? I've never heard of a woman shaving their bum cheeks. I would use a scrub and stop shaving it.

Simonjt · 23/10/2024 15:04

Are you exfoliating and moisturising on a regular basis? Are you using a clean razor?

Would it not be easier to wax it, getting any stubble must be awful.

justloveit · 23/10/2024 15:05

Omg 🙈 I'm embarrassed now !

Yes I'm a female , I think I have undiagnosed PCOS , I am very hairy! Head to toe.

I shave my actual bum by squatting ( very easy) and then my bum cheeks my looking into a mirror and just shaving? The acne is on my bum cheeks.

I thought everyone shaved their bum? I like to because my hair is black and very obvious

The bits of me I shave, which doesn't include my bum, but does include my bikini line - If any spots are starting, then after a bath or shower, I'll use Savlon. But best avoided, which means fresh razor blade and sometimes letting the hair grow a but do the skin can rest.

mychilddeservesaneducation · 23/10/2024 15:07

Are you sure it's acne? Could it be ingrowing hairs?

roseymoira · 23/10/2024 15:08

Sorry but that's not 'normal' for most women, I do think you should maybe get your hormones checked?

I'd also say stop the shaving, doesn't sound like it's good for your skin. Maybe get a professional wax? And exfoliate it weekly. Hope you get it sorted, sounds a nightmare!

I have no idea about bum shaving but as a general rule with pimples and acne:

  • stop shaving for a month while things calm down as shaving irritates the skin and creates tiny cuts for bacteria to get into
  • you can use hibiscrub (diluted as per instructions) but it’s very harsh on skin to use it daily
  • regularly use a product with salicylic acid in it on that area - a foaming cleanser would be ideal. It helps break down the stuff that clogs pores and removes dead skin so you’ll have fewer spots and ingrown hairs.
Birdscratch · 23/10/2024 15:12

Once it’s all calmed down, try hair removal cream for sensitive areas.

Thanks for this! I appreciate it ❤️

I think this is likely to be ingrown hairs, I get them on my thighs sometimes and they form proper spots. I use the ordinary glycolic acid after hair removal, but I’ve recently discovered byoma’s body lotion, it’s in a yellow bottle, exfoliating or brightening lotion, I forget the name! But it’s brilliant and really has worked well on ingrown hairs.

I also struggled with a spotty back, I really rate la Roche posay effaclar face wash which I used as a body wash, with the effaclar duo moisturiser afterwards. It’s really cleared up but I still use that weekly to keep on top of it. Don’t see why this wouldn’t work on your bum!

Also I asked the pharmacist at boots if they stock hibiclens, they don’t but she recommended bactiscrub which is apparently the same thing under a different name, it was near the foot lotion in my local boots.

Birdscratch · 23/10/2024 15:15

Any cleanser that works into a lather will do ^

I'm sorry but I laughed. Thank you for answering OP, you've brightened my day.

I hope you get your issue sorted. Sounds like you need your hormones checked and maybe explore laser removal.

ThiccOfIt · 23/10/2024 15:16

Ex beauty therapist here and can confirm.. our female bums are hairy. Some are fairer than others, OP is not abnormal.

Ameliorate is helpful for bumps. Exfoliating and moisturise.

Some women are naturally more spotty and hairy and also lifestyle can factor in (sitting down for long periods, polyester clothing, weight, diabetes etc).

Isitfridayyetsophie · 23/10/2024 15:16

cera ve do a nice salicylic cleanser which isn’t too expensive, I find I struggle to leave cleanser on for a decent amount of time for it to do its work though

PestoPastaChaChaCha · 23/10/2024 15:16

Spots on bottom and back of thighs can be easily sorted by using an exfoliating glove every day in the shower. It’ll sort it out very quickly. Google exfoliating bath gloves.

Try this.
Helped my bum spots.

Cosycore · 23/10/2024 15:16

I would also second not being too harsh on the skin there, when you are cleaning it (I know that’s count intuitive when you’re trying to get rid of spots etc) but if they are ingrown hairs you can use an exfoliant but only once every four days or so. I found this really helped on my bikini line.

sorry you’re needing to shave/ feel you need to shave there OP. it’s normal for you, even if other posters are reacting like it’s something mental.

TheHighPriestess1 · 23/10/2024 15:17

I use hair remover, no pimples or stubble

EBearhug · 23/10/2024 15:18

Birdscratch · 23/10/2024 15:12

Once it’s all calmed down, try hair removal cream for sensitive areas.

Do not, under any circumstances, get distracted by your phone once hair removal cream is in place.

I made this error once...

Mrsttcno1 · 23/10/2024 15:20

I’ve never shaved my bum, wasn’t aware this was something I should be doing!

If the hair is a hormonal issue the acne may be also.

Isitfridayyetsophie · 23/10/2024 15:21

https://www.laroche-posay.co.uk/en_GB/effaclar-purifying-cleansing-gel/LRP_050.html I have this one but I’m a sucker for lotions and potions so will inevitably now buy that one 😂 @Birdscratch

Sorry OP I really didn't mean to make you feel bad! I can understand that you might feel you need to shave if you have PCOS and dark hair. I know also some Asian women can be naturally hairier so I shouldn't have been so ignorant.
