Bum acne & shaving bum

justloveit · 23/10/2024 14:58

Hey everyone

Hope this post isn't tmi

I suffer with pimples / acne on my bum and back of my thighs.

I do shave my bum so I'm not sure if this why I'm getting acne?

I really want to try clear it up as I am self conscious about it during sex.

Does anyone have any recommendations to clear it up? Or what do you all use to shave?

I heard hibiscrub is good but I can't seem to find it anywhere I know boots stock it but my local boots don't have it atm.

Any suggestions?

Fellow hairy bum (and everywhere else!) lady here, OP. Please ignore the hair shaming on this thread! I do have PCOS but have also got hairier as I’ve got older, despite other symptoms of PCOS diminishing.

I also have problem spots on my bum and I do attribute it largely to hair removal (I get them on the backs of my legs to a lesser extent too). I use an exfoliating mitt every couple of days and use a hair removal cream (WooWoo Tame It) rather than shaving. This combination definitely improves things.

good luck!

Sorry but that's not 'normal' for most women, I do think you should maybe get your hormones checked?

I'd also say stop the shaving, doesn't sound like it's good for your skin. Maybe get a professional wax? And exfoliate it weekly. Hope you get it sorted, sounds a nightmare!

It’s not normal for you. It’s very normal for lots of women.

Laser sounds like your best bet here. Lifelong (hopefully!) results.

Birdscratch · 23/10/2024 15:43

I don’t have hair there but I have I chin hairs that are too numerous to count and can go from too small to notice to waving out from my face in an afternoon. There’s a reason there are so many hair removal products out there.

EternalSunshine19 · 23/10/2024 15:47

Buy any acne products that are for the face but use them on your bum. I get spots on my bum and i don't shave. I do still get spots on my face and back and use these products anywhere I've got spots. The cleanser and spray are really good.

Please ignore the 'it's not normal' brigade. I have the same, I'm extremely hairy all over. I used to have my legs and bottom waxed. Not only Asian women, but Greek and Cypriot women have different hair growth patterns.

I'd really advise you to get a diagnosis. I'm 58 now, but when I was younger I tried many times and was brushed off. I didn't have PCOS but I certainly had a hormone imbalance of some sort which really affected me and I believe made my menopause horrendous. I still don't know what it is.

Shaving can really irritate sensitive skin and leave lots of tiny nicks so bacteria can get in and cause spots. If you have pcos have you thought about waxing or laser treatments? or even hair removal cream? I usually put some Sudocrem on my spots when they flare up which helps :)

cigarettesNalcohol · 23/10/2024 15:54

Yes as per previous post, you definitely need to get a salicylic acid serum. Something like The Ordinary. Or I sometimes use the Superdrug one on my bum as I sometimes have pimples and it works well to keep them at bay - HOWEVER I don't shave my bum, it's just the occasional pimple which is easy to manage. I think this sounds very much like a shaving rash/ingrown hairs to me. Have you tried waxing or IPL hair removal? IPL hair removal works best on dark hairs and light skin. If this is you, then the permanent hair removal might be a good option.

This

Lather it up in your hands as it's quite abrasive, then let it sit on your skin for a few mins before rinsing
Last step before you get out the shower

Body hair is normal on anyone.

I would use a veet type cream and order some hibiscrub online.

pandapopadance · 23/10/2024 16:21

Could you look into getting lazer? You can pay in instalments and it would stop the spots.

CleanShirt · 23/10/2024 16:23

I get spots all over, Frank clear body wash really helps!

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 23/10/2024 16:30

I would really recommend trying an IPL machine instead of shaving as they zap the hair follicle and you will reduce bumps caused by ingrown hairs. Worked on the top of my arms (which were bumpy not visably hairy... if that makes sense?

Also Inkly list does a salicylic roll on which might help.

Northernluce · 24/10/2024 16:03

I’ve only just got into the habit of shaving my bikini area…. I’ve never even considered shaving my bum, is that something I should be doing too? Logistically I’m not even sure how I would go about that

Fgfgfg · 24/10/2024 16:09

Hibiscus from Amazon is about £11 for 500ml. Much cheaper than boots and it lasts for ages.

Thommasina · 24/10/2024 16:11

I wax my bum! I am also quite hairy. No pcos. Just to make you feel better op.

TipsyBrickPanda · 24/10/2024 16:12

I don’t shave my bum but I do get a spotty behind! I have recently been using The Inkey Lists glycolic stick a few times a week and it has really made a difference.

If it’s spots from shaving then I really recommend slathering the area in sudocrem immediately afterwards. I do this on my bikini line and it’s so good!

LoafofSellotape · 24/10/2024 20:12

I don't shave anything I can't see.

Bioderma atoderm shower gel will help its antibacterial properties and very gentle.

wintersgold · 12/11/2024 14:42

Why don't you just get your hair permanently removed with electrolysis?
