Anyone used this when their skin is clear but burns from going from outside to inside / flushing/ heat sensitivity?

About to do an E consult with the GP to ask to try some.

Soolantra cleared up my rosacea acne/pustules in record time but hasn't done anything for redness and flushing I'm afraid. That said everyone is different so you should probably try a tube and see.

ouch321 · 23/10/2024 00:52

I tried it for the permanently red patches on either side of my nose. I just asked for it, sent a pic and was given a prescription without issue. Didn't do anything for me though it's supposed to be amazing for redness per all the threads here I've seem over the past few years.

LoafofSellotape · 23/10/2024 10:31

Oh that's not very positive, I just keep reading about how wonderful it is. My skin is really clear until it's triggered and then it burns for hours. I'll ask the GP,nothing to lose I suppose.

I have the same issue. Avoiding triggers is the key (easier said than done) for me it's often certain foods. To tame the redness once your skin is triggered I can recommend Dr Jart Cicapair range. The Tiger colour correct cream really does reduce the redness of the skin and works more or less instantaneously.

Maybe you had a different condition than acne

TheGoldenGate · 23/10/2024 11:05

Absolutely great for acne at any stage of life. Made miracles for my mum, me and my son

I've tried that and it irritated me sadly.

I have a good skin care routine, Cerave wash and Cetaphil for Redness moisturiser and occasionally Aveeno and Simple serum.

Triggers are really only heat and going from cold to hot so hard to avoid really.

I don't have and have never had acne or spots with it.

That's my trigger too. I had good luck with Soolantra and seem to have a pretty good routine that's kept everything pretty calm, so I haven't needed it in over a year. I'm not going to say I never flush at all - in fact I have a meeting later today in a room that's always overheated and know I'll have a bit, but it's much improved.

Cetaphil and Cerave are good only of somebody doesn't know how to read ingredients.

I've used lots of creams over the years and these have improved my skin a LOT. So called natural ingredients are more likely to be a trigger.

Good ingredients does not mean immediately all natural. There are some natural that are for sensitive skin

But e.g washing gels from those brands you named contain SLS, they use silicon/ dimeticone, alcohol etc. def didn't work for me

I think it's very individual. I tried loads of stuff that people recommended but in the end it really came down to trialling things. My skin does really well on Eve Lom cleanser, which in theory should be terrible, followed by products I get from the dermatologist. If something's working, I'd advise sticking with it.

My routine may not be beneficial for you as we may have different skin type and skin issues.

But currently I use Emma Hardie balm to wash, hylauronic acid to moisturise, I lock it with Emma Hardie Brilliance facial oil( lipids). As I have dry skin here and there. In the winter I use retinol Medik8 but not all the time. And when I don't use it I use Soolantra on my nose. Makes miracles. Sometimes instead I use azelaic acid which also works but has to be consistently used.

In the morning I currently use Omorovicza moisturiser but normally it would be again hylauronic acid or aloe gel locked with argan or macadamia oil.
I use always SPF this time with La Mer BB cream or in the summer I like few other brands with Spf 50

LoafofSellotape · 23/10/2024 16:10

I've yet to find a spf that doesn't irritate and I've tried everything.

I've tried Emma Harding and had a huge reaction sadly.

I can't use nut oils.

I've not heard of Medik8, I'll look it up.

Try Paula’s Choice SPF 50 daily hydrating fluid, I suffer with breakouts and hate the feeling of SPF on my face but I wear this daily and it’s fantastic

I have a feeling I've tried it, I'll look on my list! I have spent hundreds on spfs and so have up and wear a wide trimmed hat and stay in the shade . I'm not a sun lover anyway .

My go to SPF is Ultra Violette Supreme Screen. I also really like Elta MD UV Daily Face.

I use a serum in the morning (rotates as I have a weekly plan from the dermatologist) followed by the Supreme Screen with a dab of foundation mixed in.

I've also had good results with taking an oregano oil capsule daily and using a red light LED mask for about 15 mins/day (I usually manage 4 or 5 days a week). Not scientific, so I can't swear it's down to this, but I haven't needed another round of soolantra since I started.

Also not a sun lover, but I use SPF daily as uv rays are a big trigger for rosacea, I think?

DoneAndNotDusted · 23/10/2024 18:30

@LoafofSellotape Have you tried Azelaic acid? Also known as Finacea, it can be prescribed by your GP and is sometimes more effective than Soolantra especially if flushing is your problem.
(I see it's been mentioned by a pp).

What about some basic zinc oxide ( mineral) based spf. If I were you, I would do skin contact allergy test to determine what are the ingredients that are causing irritation.

Avocado oil?

Supergoop! Sheerscreen suncreen is the best I’ve found for my very sensitive rosacea-prone allergic skin! No reaction or pore blocking either. I accidentally bought the unseen sunscreen version and reacted straight away, so know it’s good stuff!
