Last time I had it done it cost £70 .
I am now strapped and need to spend less, how much do you spend on your getting your hair done, do you get what you pay for?

I get someone to come to the house (a hairdresser obv) and it only costs 45 for a colour and cut.

Don't know how good my colour is mind you

I get a full head cut & colour for about £60 but as I need it doing every 4 weeks I sometimes just get a trim in between & do a home colour to keep the roots covered.

Lilliput, what you need to search out are 'old lady' salons above other shops.

imvho if you have your hair done in a ground floor salon, where there is possibly quite a lot of limestone, or a sculpture made out of natural products, or a water feature with lighting underneath or very very trendy dubb bass music that makes you feel a bit unwell

THEN you will pay £100+ to have your hair done

If however you go to a salon above a bookmakers and there are pink tiles on the walls and a large bowl of mint imperials on the desk and they are listening to radio 2 and laughing heartily

THEN you will pay £50 (or maybe less if you don't go on the OAP discount day).

You need to go on a hunt. Pink tiles and you're quids in.

Farb · 23/04/2008 20:47

and OMG they will be in raptures as you will not be asking for a perm.

southeastastra · 23/04/2008 20:47

lol agree with farb

cornsilk · 23/04/2008 20:49

I had my hair done in one of those places Farb. I came out with yellow and orange thick tiger stripes.

zippitippitoes · 23/04/2008 20:50

yeah i think i would rather do it myself than go to net curtian and hood place

southeastastra · 23/04/2008 20:50

you need to try a few out cornsilk

fatzak · 23/04/2008 20:50

Our local tech has a salon in town where you can get a cut and highlights for £25! It's the only place I go now as I just can't hack paying £70+ elsewhere. See if there is one near you and find out if they have the NVQ level 3 lot doing colours - these tend to be stylists who have been working in salons for years and years who are going back for further qualifications. I have never had a bad experience!

southeastastra · 23/04/2008 20:51

old ladies conversations are very interesting

Farb · 23/04/2008 20:51

ahh cornsilk. That is the potential down side.

I have had complete success with my Tina

zippitippitoes · 23/04/2008 20:52

too risky for me old lady place would give me old lady hair

madcol · 23/04/2008 20:52

iamdingdong · 23/04/2008 20:54

morningpaper · 23/04/2008 20:54

madcol · 23/04/2008 20:57

I'm not rich and I'm certainly not pretty. This was just in a run of the mill hairdressers on our broadway. Anyone else ever go to RUSH?

zippitippitoes · 23/04/2008 20:59

southeastastra · 23/04/2008 20:59

rich people look weird, don't you read hello magazine mp

WideWebWitch · 23/04/2008 20:59

£120 ish every six weeks

Farb · 23/04/2008 21:00

madcol, did you have every single strand done a different colour? Did they cut it with diamond encrusted disposable scissors?

zippitippitoes · 23/04/2008 21:00

lol i only earn 40 quid a week

madcol · 23/04/2008 21:06

I don't go very often though - so maybe she was charging for remedial work.

I did think it was expensive at the time but put it down to inflation. I did look better after but after a day of toddler-thrown weetabix those 'different-coloured strands' all looked 'wheaty-brown'
