I have bottle green suede heels and I'm not sure if I should go for nude tights or very black sheer tights. It's for a winter wedding and I haven't worn sheer black tights since the 90s but I quite like the idea? Would you go nude or black

There is black in the dress, probably to allow the black tight idea to work. I’d black tights are fine, tho it may make the dress look more like evening wear.

I love the last pair in Deep Night - I would go for coloured tights myself.

Attelina · 15/10/2024 10:11

Bare legs will cheapen the look. Nude stockings or tights would look lovely.

I'm Scottish too. I think bare legs in winter look terrible.

I think nude tights look terrible, but we're both entitled to our opinion. I think there might also be a generation gap with tights, my mum was appalled at the suggestion she not wear tights to my (June!) wedding. My response was more re OP's concern she'd look out of place. Definitely not in my experience.

Totally agree with this.

We used to call it corned beef legs, going bare unless it’s sunny and warm 😂

Not just terrible but a bit daft too. It's winter; in Scotland. I'm not keen on nude tights. I'd wear black.

But it's a wedding; indoors (presumably). I'd wear black tights with that dress most places, but not to a wedding. If I was wearing sheer black tights to a wedding it would probably only be with a mini dress and to specific venues with a a specific vibe (e.g. One Devonshire Gardens). Each to their own though.

TheLeadbetterLife · 15/10/2024 11:14

I think black sheers, but I do love the 90s black sheers look, and it's back in.

I agree with this. I can't remember a time I saw anyone wearing black tights to a wedding to be honest.

TheLeadbetterLife · 15/10/2024 11:31

What are these wedding tights rules and why didn't I get the tablets of stone memo?

It's a Winter wedding in Scotland, black tights would be absolutely fine.

Leopardprintisaneutral · 15/10/2024 12:22

Snag tights do some neutral colours in a slightly thicker denier if you are worried about the cold. They also do many other colours, which is why I'm sitting at work with bright red legs on a Tuesday :)

Lifeisarealchallenge · 15/10/2024 14:29

Definitely black.

MaidOfAle · 15/10/2024 14:36

Barely black sheer. Barely black is a kind of really dark grey-brown and I use it as a dark neutral when black or tights that are my skin tone would both look wrong.

Or, go for opaques that are one of the other colours in the dress.

WildCherryBlossom · 15/10/2024 15:05

I'm looked at the dress before reading the bun fight thread. I would wear sheer black tights with it for a winter wedding. Black boots for a more casual winter event. That dress looks quite versatile to dress up and down.

BaronessBomburst · 15/10/2024 15:19

We've covered tights.
Now, bag? And hat, fascinator, or head band thingy?
(I love MN wedding outfit threads!)

WildCherryBlossom · 15/10/2024 16:00

Bag - I would possibly veer towards the darker pink / plum / fuchsia tones in that dress (maybe because I already have a dressy bag in that colour) but metallics would work equally well.

Head gear? Maybe just a fancy hair clip.

treadingonlego · 15/10/2024 16:11

Another vote for nude fishnets - they're always my go-to!

Moveoverdarlin · 15/10/2024 16:44

Bare legs at a winter wedding will look awful. Really awful. Imagine sitting in a church in North Scotland in January with bare legs. It’ll be freakin freeeeeezing.

£50 for tights!!!!

NewGirlinClass · 15/10/2024 16:55

Pale pink or pale green to match colours in dress.

AndYesTheWeeDonkeys · 15/10/2024 17:01

Oooooh! Pale pink opaques would be gorgeous. Particularly with green shoes.

With a huge, shaggy pale pink feather coat …

Same price as the dress!! madness, I am sure the tights are divine but seriously...

Lifeomars · 15/10/2024 17:30

That dress is lovely, I do enjoy the fashion threads. Love looking at clothes and imagining putting outfits together. As for tights and weddings, I have honestly never ever given a split seconds consideration to what anyone has worn on their legs at any of the (many) weddings I have been to.

BashfulClam · 15/10/2024 16:48

£50 for tights!!!!

They last for ages, though. Probably less of an issue if you're buying green tights for a single occasion, but worth the money in general - for the thicker products, that is. Wolford/Falke fine denier are gorgeous, but you still only get one or two wears out of them at £25!

AndYesTheWeeDonkeys · 15/10/2024 17:35

Why, though?

I mean, obviously, avoiding bankruptcy. Why would it be wrong to spend as much on an accessory as on the main garment? Just think how chic a person might look in Uniqlo jeans and t shirt with excellent leather brogues and a priceless string of pearls. Mixing things up is one way of creating a truly stylish look.
