If you wear natural fibres...

Where do you usually shop?

Or maybe the question should be, if you are trying to buy less polyester etc, where do you buy your clothes?

I wear pretty much all natural fibres and a lot of wool, with some linen, cashmere, silk and cotton. Most of my clothes are from: Dilling, Icebreaker, Smartwool, Celtic and Co, Poetry. I also have some nice seamless wool jumpers from The Croft House. And I have (dare I say it on MN) a few select natural fibre items from Boden.

GettingStuffed · 09/10/2024 19:25

I'd also add in Patra Silk

Oh yes, I have some of their silk thermals, very nice!

Baker’s dozen! Lots of places left out. I enjoy clothes, and, while I love a bargain and happily stalk sales, or snap up treasureable things if I find them pre-owned, I expect clothes to cost money. I won’t waste time on brands that aren’t trying to make the best products they possibly can, with the best possible fabrics.

Same! This is why I need to know which brands to look out for 😊

I'm fed up with buying stuff that says it's cotton or wool and then it's 95% man made and makes me sweat in all my perimeno glory.

Thanks for the answers, everyone- that gives me plenty to look into.

For me
Palava, Klements, Oska, Colenimo, Nobody's Child, Casey Casey, Cabbages and Roses, Max Mara.

Bearpawk · 09/10/2024 22:02

H&M (just search the website for key word 'cotton/ linen/ wool' , uniqlo, cos, things like that. Or If I like something on we website I just check the materials info or composition label. It's really not difficult tbh.
Although wool seems to have gone up in cost a A LOT lately and a 'wool blend' item which used to be mainly wool in H&M is now 8% so beware !

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 09/10/2024 22:03

I know their love of a childish pattern or odd colour scheme can put lots off, but Boden tend to do a lot of natural fibres.

I have got more sensitive skin as I’ve got older plus feeling the cold like a nanna in my mid 40s, so am buying mainly cashmere as it doesn’t have the itch factor but is warm without being sweaty. I tend to search on vinted for “cashmere” then my dress size plus the size above and “condition very good” or above. If they don’t show me the tag I’m not buying (because that’s normally only 5% cashmere). I think £25 is the most I’ve paid for a 100% cashmere jumper on vinted and all but one have been perfect condition.

JadedFilly · 09/10/2024 22:08

Uniqlo and Zara are guilty of tempting one with ‘pure wool’ - which I ignore. And ‘cotton’ which often reveals itself not to be, purely from the photos. Otherwise a moment’s scrolling reveals fabric content and / or provenance.

I admit I did buy a 100% polyester skirt from Zara recently. But it was £59.99 and so pretty. I don’t expect it to see me into old age. (Although I have a pair of polyester/cotton mix twill trousers from Acne Studios, about a decade old and absolutely indestructible.)

ForPearlViper · 09/10/2024 22:16

I was in M&S recently with someone who was looking at sweaters. The women's sweaters were pretty much exclusively acrylic. I ended up hanging around in the menswear whilst they went to the loo. There were a lot of sweaters there that were mainly a cotton mix - for the same price or less. Clearly they can make jumpers out of natural fabrics for the same price but for some reason they don't for women.

Woolovers. Entirely made of biodegradable fibres. Lots of wool, silk and cotton but also some viscose ( which is technically not a natural fibre as it has to be processed but is made from wood pulp so is biodegradable and breathable)

Same. All my jumpers are from Woolovers - all made in the UK from natural fibres. I can't really wear wool so buy their wool/cotton mix jumpers.

Cantonet · 10/10/2024 13:20

Cotton basics from H&M, jeans & tops from Free People, Cashmere from M&S via eBay & Crush/Pangaia Cashmere from Tk Maxx. I pretty much exclusively buy natural fabrics & 100% wool coats.
I live 12 miles from the nearest shopping area where there really only a H&M, M&S, Clarks & Tk Maxx so this limits my options.

JadedFilly · 10/10/2024 13:31

Apart from an entire internet of shopping, @Cantonet?

Ilovemyshed · 10/10/2024 13:32

Seasalt and Woolovers

I'm 5ft 3 with broad shoulders & have to order several sizes. So I don't have the funds to invest in multiple sizes online & have that money tied up. Plus, I actually prefer to try on items in real life to gauge the sizing. At 60 my body shape has changed & isn't standard sizing.I've always liked good quality clothes. I used to buy a lot of Maxmara in my 20/30's pre-kids. Then we lived in HK for a number of years & I bought lovely Cashmere/Leather etc from Stanley Market. The shop owners used to tell me when there was new stuff coming in they thought I would like. Now my dd's are wearing my old leather/Sheepskins from there.

Meadowfinch · 10/10/2024 14:43

This autumn I have sweaters and a wool kilt from Celtic & Co, and a couple of wool/cotton mix tops from Woolover. A wool tank from House of Bruar. Some long sleeved cotton T-shirts from Boden & Tesco..

A Brushed cotton dress from White Stuff. A heavy cotton twill skirt from Poetry. A brushed cotton robe from British Boxers.

Previous years' wool coat from Seasalt, wool longline jacket from Pure, LKBennett tweedy pencil skirt, and wide legged wool Boden trousers.

I need to add ankle boots and a bag, scarf etc.

It really is about spotting little gems among all the polyester. I browse every site checking fabrics. Wool lasts much longer than synthetic materials. It's warmer and holds its shape much better.
