Where do you usually shop?

Or maybe the question should be, if you are trying to buy less polyester etc, where do you buy your clothes?

Following as in the same boat

Most of my wool jumpers are either factory (puchased locally) or hand made (knitted by me).

A perk of having family working in the textile industry (Scottish Borders) is the cashmere and lambswool factory rejects sold off to staff for £5. Nothing wrong with them and they have the added perk of not being labeled so no scratchy neck.

You can sho in a lot of laces, but you just need to be assiduous in reading labels. But I tend to make my own clothes, and only buy fabrics in natural fibres

Same. All my jumpers are from Woolovers - all made in the UK from natural fibres. I can't really wear wool so buy their wool/cotton mix jumpers.

@username3678 can you share a link where Woolovers states their clothes are UK made please? I have bought a lot from them in the past and also asked them several times via social media etc re: where their clothes are made and they have never responded. I think they may have been UK produced in the past but the woolovers cardigan I have on at the.minute says it was made in China.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'm sure Woolovers used to be made in the UK which was one of the reasons I shopped with them.

However I've just checked their website and they use factories in developing countries with terrible worker's rights records:
https://www.woolovers.com/page/responsible-sourcing

This is very disappointing.

@username3678 It's so difficult isn't it, trying to get a balance between ethical materials and ethical production.

I've bought a lot from them over the years but scaled it right back when I started to learn more about supply chains and factory conditions. They've got great marketing re: their use of sustainable materials etc but they are very quiet re: actual production, workers conditions etc

The last time I bought something was about 2017. I've checked the labels and there's nothing saying where they're made. I've attached one, there's nothing on the back of the label and nothing at the collar.

They've greatly expanded what they sell, it used to be jumpers and tops but they do loads now. I'm assuming the expansion brought about the move out of the UK.

Yes it's very difficult. I want natural fibres produced ethically.
