Christmas Day top

Blindoptimism · 08/10/2024 20:44

Inspired by the post about a glamorous Christmas jumper- but what I would like is a nice top wear at home on Christmas Day. I do want to be comfy but also want bit of glitz or sequin.

However I always get hot and end up ditching anything like a jumper or anything that’s at all itchy. So the search goes on!

Maybe slightly festive colour but looking for more sophisticated than full on Christmassy. Any ideas? Am size 10/12 brunette and 50

NRBY Velvet

I posted this on another thread. There might be something here.

Thanks! I’ve seen a lot of velvet about this year but I can’t decide if it would leave me too hot and bothered! It looks great tho so might try that route

I do t have any suggestions, but velvet on Christmas Day is too heavy/sweaty. I guess it depends where you live and in what type of house, but that stuff looks like something you can get in New Look for £13.99.

Whistles Annie Sparkle jumpers. I now have several because of a post on here years ago.

Ooh, they are nice. And classy too.

dudsville · 09/10/2024 09:06

I can wear jumpers at home, but I wouldn't plan my outfit around it as a key piece because, like you, I may find it too warm. I have two dresses, one check and one gingham, that are great for Christmas day. Potential knitwear can layer over that. So, does it have to be knitwear OP?

sunshinechaser · 09/10/2024 09:11

I bought this silk blouse last year and it was perfect for Christmas Day. I wore it quite a lot over winter though which was great as it's pricey. Last year it was a deeper, darker red. They may bring out something similar this Christmas.

Won't the tie fall into the gravy?

sunshinechaser · 09/10/2024 09:18

@GettingStuffed 😂 no the ties are so long the ends sit below the table.

Thanks - no I wasn’t thinking knitwear at all, also think too hot! I probably confused things by saying I was inspired by the Xmas jumper thread. I want a light top ideally, but that has some kind of glam factor. I’ve done silk and polyester type of things but all in all got a bit sweaty! I think I might be seeking the impossible tho. Dresses are nice but I’d rather not be in tights, that feels a hit more worky to me. I did have some nice tops once that kind of worked - thin, a bit silky, red, but not seen anything like that for years

And thanks all. I think I’m not willowy enough for long/big shirts tho they look nice. I’ve not actually looked in the shops yet this autumn but just got thinking i would like something that would work for Xmas day, and for the odd drinks thing. Lots of velvet online but again think I’d overheat

My automatic go to for Christmas Day is sequins, I can't help myself, I'm obsessed!

M&S stuff is usually very well lined and non-itchy. What about something like this with a satin bias cut skirt?

Elasticated sequin pants and a t shirt

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 09/10/2024 18:48

I’m planning on wearing this with a black camisole top (it’s not silky slightly heavier material) from River Island with either black jeans or Zara diamanté seam black leggings.

M&S had a load of sparkly/sequin tops when I was in last week.

A couple of years back I got a long sleeved navy-ish t-shirt from Sainsbury's that had a nice sequinned robin on the front. Wasn't particularly expensive, but it's been handy to wear when I want to be festive but don't want a warm christmas jumper on.

I also have a handful of Christmas long cotton or silky scarves from eBay that again were cheap and cheerful but can jolly up a plain outfit easily without making it extra warm.

These are the sort of thing:

Look out for tops by Joseph Ribkoff, they fit me and just seem to have something stylish about them. Wear well, too. I have a red one shoulder (which still manages to cover my bra strap) top with a slight sparkle.

Not too OTT but really comes alive under artificial light. Got it in the sale. Cost per wear after a few years is really very low indeed.

Rasputin123 · 09/10/2024 20:37

I sympathise OP as also always hot and bothered and similar itchy skin op.

FjordFancier · 10/10/2024 07:02

What about a waistcoat style top? Good for not overheating! I have a few that look good with wide leg trousers.
this one is a lovely festive shade of red

I have a short sleeved Christmas t-shirt that I start the day in, it’s great for the kitchen prep etc. Then I change into either a thin sparkly top which are always available to buy as Christmas party wear, the trick is to find a comfy one. I have had my favourite for 7 years now and wear it for 3 events a year with smart black jeans.

StarCourt · 10/10/2024 10:47

I tend to look for t-shirt style with three quarter sleeves that's a bit loose
