What do I need to get a nicer face?

Recently turned 38 but i feel like i’ve aged a decade in the past three years. Started getting very down about my looks. I’ve always been plain but feel as though other things are happening now such as sparse eyebrows, thinning hair at the temples, having to die my roots every two weeks (not ready to go grey!).

I’m not stressing too much about hair just now as i’m still trying to grow it beyond shoulder length since getting lots of breakage three years ago trying to lighten it with a hairdresser.

My main focus for now is my mouth. I have exceptionally small features and my mouth embarrasses me. Very thin lips and the top one disappears when I smile. It turns up into the gum. I’ve been reading that a lip flip with botox might be better suited for this problem rather than fillers? does anyone have any experience of the flip procedure?

Whats upsetting me most is the weird flaps i’ve acquired at the sides of my mouth. The left one of far more prominent than the right. I feel as though my face is slack around the lower cheek area by the mouth and was wondering if fillers would get rid of these or at least make the lines less obvious?

Im a total beauty novice. I wear very basic makeup. Pretty much allergic to everything (my face blew up for about two weeks last year when i tried a lash lift and tint at a salon with my niece for her birthday!) so this is a big step for me.

I want to start researching what will improve the lips and lines issue. Lots of places near me with doctors which say they offer a free consultation but I doubt they’ll be impartial.

Thabks for any tips/advice. Please ignore the shiny skin - just put on some moisturiser!

I think you have a lovely smile. I really, really do. You do not need fillers etc.

Mmhmmn · 10/10/2024 00:47

Please don’t let daft comments from ignorant and shallow people affect how you view yourself. They’re probably Instagram-brainwashed into thinking everyone’s meant to have one of those awful trout pouts. I have a thin top lip but couldn’t give a fuck. Faces are beautiful in their variety.

Bouncyballs3 · 10/10/2024 00:51

Just wanted to add my voice to all the other sensible people here saying that you look absolutely lovely in your pics. The only thing that needs a boost is your self esteem.
fillers etc in my opinion look crap and it breaks my heart when you see young (otherwise pretty) women with horribly distorted faces from these injections. It’s just the patriarchy fucking with us again! Hang out with people who give you compliments not critique.
I’m 51 and I’m sure I look way older than you but do not see any need to do anything other than look after my skin sensibly and wear a bit of makeup to enhance my features.
Why not just focus on upgrading your make up and your mindset and you’ll feel 21 again.

I think most of us here who are 40+ know the misery of constant root touch ups. It's a real drag if you're naturally a brunette. Blondes have it easier.

The main thing which strikes me from your post is saying you're late 30s and worrying, because 38 is so so young. I'd kill to be late 30s again. So, rejoice!

You also have great lips and lovely healthy white teeth.

There is so much media pressure these days to be physically perfect, but it's not the reality where we all get along fine looking not quite perfect.

Please could you shared the targeted treatments, which serums and any names for the type of radio-frequency facials please? Am new to all this and would love some pointers xx
Thanks 😊

In terms of serums I use & alternate (as part of my) wider skin care
*hyaluronic acid
*Vitamin C (20%) but start with a lower concentrate then build up
*nyamancide and zinc serum
*Retinol serum at night

I also use either a Glycolic Acid or PHA toner.

I've taken a pic of the facials my therapist offers. I usually have a classic (I'm too scared to do any of the other more intensive ones but may try one day) with high frequency as I tend to have dry and dehydrated skin.
I tried a seventy hyal skin booster two weeks ago.
Hope this is helpful.

I'm not into the inflated lip look at all and yours look good OP. The artificial sex doll look I don't think is one to aspire to.

I honestly wish people wouldn't connect big lips to sex dolls.

It's equating typically black features to sex objects.

It most certainly is not. I see many beautiful black women in daily life and, sadly, more and more absolutely ridiculous filled lips. I have never once equated the two.

Xyz1234567 · 10/10/2024 05:24

I equate the mad lips with women with very low self-esteem and low intelligence.

Ivymedication · 10/10/2024 10:18

By any chance have you decorated recently?

Over covid, obviously a brilliant time for self reflection I was obsessed with how haggered I was, I do have very thin lips and also dark circles.

I was, because I had time looking critically in the mirror for far too long just going ughhhhh

Then I read in a thread on here somewhere that if you're in a room that is a draining colour for you, you will look worse.

I'd just painted my bedroom green, in a shade I can't wear. I love the colour so I thought I can't wear it so I'll paint in it. But the room was making me look ill and so much older than say the bathroom - bright white.
I hadn't put two and two together.
It's still green, I just don't trust the mirror in there anymore.

Also your lips are fab. Microcurrent eg nuface, foreo bear helps a bit

I’m a that true? Do people think that saying lip fillers look like sex dolls ergo we think black women look like…(actually not going to finish that sentence, you know where I’m going with it).

I think it’s the observation of un-naturalness that draws the comparison, not that filled lips reproduce another shape of natural lip.

Grmumpy · 10/10/2024 12:53

Nothing at all wrong with your lips and teeth. I like to wear a lipstick which brightens my face..I like soft tawny orange and I outline with a similar coloured lipliner pencil. I also like to wear masacara and I lightly fill in my eyebrows. Just saying ft touches to enhance what yo7 have if you want to do it.

MurdoMunro · 10/10/2024 13:02

That’s a top tip @Ivymedication 👍🏻

JaneJeffer · 10/10/2024 13:34

My niece said at a recent family event i have a gummy smile and should try posing for photos with a closed mouth smile.
She needs a shoe up the arse. You look lovely.

blueskies23 · 10/10/2024 16:04

You look very pretty and natural. I am not being kind as I was going to say to have an attractive face, you need some character, kindness, intelligence, any number of qualities that can be seen on your face and provide animation. I can't stand lip fillers, artificial looking faces and brows that don't move. Maybe your neice and friends are advocates of this. Try using some self compassion and perhaps talk to some one about building a stronger sense of self. Your lower face looks elegant.
