Hi there
I’ve just noticed this patch of bleach stain on my new grey jeans 🙁. Are they done for?

Once the fabric is bleached it's bleached, unfortunately, as the colour has been removed. You could re-dye them or completely
bleach them or live with it.

Hoppinggreen · 29/09/2024 21:06

Well you can't get it out because its not a mark its removed the colour.
When I have done that on a dark colour like blue or black I have used a sharpie but I doubt you will get that colour. You could dye them

TheCentreCannotHold · 29/09/2024 21:06

I'm afraid so. Bleach literally takes the pigment out of the fibres. You can't put it back in by removing the bleach. You could try colouring them in if you happen to have a similar coloured sharpie.

Ive had this before. It’s annoying. But as the jeans are so new I’d bet that if you wash them on the right setting (what are they - 30 or 40 degree instructions?) the dye of the jeans will “re-dye” the bleached patch at bit. Won’t look like a perfect job but will be less noticeable I imagine.

Hope that’s the case and that it helps.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/09/2024 21:10

Thank you all. That’s kind of what I thought then i saw some nonsense on the internet about alcohol releasing colour into it but i don’t have any. Is it that bad do you think? I know it is difficult to tell from the pic but it’s probably not as big as I think.

Thank you. I’ve worn them twice before. Would that still apply?

Sharpie works well

Probably.

But answer to your other question, no I don’t think it’s that noticeable.

Enjoy your jeans.

Petrine · 29/09/2024 21:15

Get a permanent marker pen in grey and touch up the bleached spot with it.

SophiaSW1 · 29/09/2024 21:16

A grey sharpie is a great shout. Plus it will stay put.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/09/2024 21:17

Thank you. I’ll give it a go. Nothing to lose. DH did the same to his fave shirt and he still wears it but it’s at the back. It’s really annoying. I usually do the bathroom in trackies or leggings but we’d gone out to see family earlier so I kept my ‘nice’ clothes on. It never happens to my old tracksuit bottoms 🙄😆. These are the first jeans I got since I lost weight as well. Thank you all

I’m worried the grey sharpie would be too dark but can try.

I've got this on tons of my jeans as I brush my teeth walking from upstairs bathroom to downstairs bathroom daily to speed time. Often splash some toothpaste and miss scrubbing it until its too late

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/09/2024 21:26

I didn’t realise toothpaste did that tbf. My DD 11 said she would splash more on to make a pattern. She has a good point but I’m not that daring. Looking on the internet people pay good money for it 😆

I've done this in the past, and it doesn't work. Bleach changes the structure of the fabric and it can no longer hold colour.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/09/2024 21:38

I did re dye some once that were pale green to pink as stain remover had made them go funny. But I don’t think it would work here due to the tone of the grey. I’ll probably live with it for now if washing doesn’t work. Just can’t wear my tops tucked in to them

Gymnopedie · 29/09/2024 21:38

If all else fails, a couple of carefully placed star badges?
(The bleach is in an awkward place, I think just one over it would look odd.)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/09/2024 21:40

That could work. I agree with two as at an angle that could work up to the pocket so could look quite convincing there. Thank you

LuluBlakey1 · 29/09/2024 21:43

Just colour it in with a felt pen. Even if it is a bit darker it will be less noticeable than that and will fade with washing.

This. Done this for things before with a sharpie.

megacat · 29/09/2024 22:18

The alcohol thing will work, but it needs to be rubbing alcohol, hand sanitiser is pretty much the same thing.

It will loosen some of the other dye enough to make it less noticeable, although it is unlikely to completely cover it.

Gorgonemilezola · 29/09/2024 22:24

It's a very small patch. No one else will notice, so pp suggestion to colour in with marker will work fine.

It was just a thought. I've seen people over dye lighter jeans (which look to have been bleached).

dudsville · 30/09/2024 08:01

Dylon machine dye do that colour.

Violetparis · 30/09/2024 08:05

I would colour in with a pencil and see how that goes, it won't last but may be something you can touch up every time you wear them.
