It would look like some sort of uniform if you did that imho. Hotel staff?

SunsetSkylane · 22/09/2024 16:43

Mmm it's very Virgin cabin crew.

If I had to wear it with something I'd go black top underneath instead of white.

Garlictest · 22/09/2024 16:56

Yes. Especially if you're attending a Fascist rally.

Britpopbaby · 22/09/2024 17:06

I think it would look better with a black polo neck underneath.

MsTeatime · 22/09/2024 17:48

It would be very Aunt Viv in Fresh Prince of Bel Air but the 90s are back.

DingDongDell70 · 22/09/2024 17:59

Nothing, it looks like a uniform imo.

soupfiend · 22/09/2024 18:00

Its very long

What is the look you are going for OP?

StormingNorman · 22/09/2024 18:01

I have a red blazer which I wear with black trousers and a camel jumper. The black and camel combo would work with this too.

Doggymummar · 22/09/2024 18:02

I'm not sure what that would go with tbh. How is it style in store, or on the website?

Cheesyfootballs01 · 22/09/2024 18:04

Only if you sell all inclusive holidays.

mestyle · 22/09/2024 20:45

I am not looking for any particular look
I am just trying to get clothes to wear to work.

My 1st office job and haven't got any office clothes so trying to get help here on what to wear and what to combine

I will try it with a camel high neck top. Will that work?

IAmNotYourZiggaZigAhhh · 22/09/2024 20:52

Honestly - I wouldn’t wear that for work if I were you. It’s just wrong; it doesn’t look like anything I recognise as contemporary clothing at all. The combination of colour, fabric and shape simply don’t belong in the 21st century. It is somehow reminiscent of seaside holiday camp uniforms from the 1970s.

Do you not have any alternative options?

IAmNotYourZiggaZigAhhh · 22/09/2024 20:54

Have you visited the office you’ll be working at? How were the staff dressed? Most offices now are much more casual than they were pre-Covid - it’s likely that a good proportion of your everyday clothes will be ok to start with.

If you can afford to buy anything new that might be confidence boosting. If not - have you come across

https://smartworks.org.uk

as they can help with clothes for women starting work.

MsTeatime · 22/09/2024 21:38

If you're looking for current office wear inspo, I'd have a browse of the work wear sections of Next and Mand S websites, see the kind of looks on those and see what of your existing clothing you could repurpose for it and then pick a few key things to look out for on the cheap if you're on a low budget. So borrow from friends until you get paid, Vinted, charity shop etc. The red waistcoat is a very bold look if you're easing your way in to a new workplace.

MintyNew · 22/09/2024 21:41

Red is quite an odd and bright choice to choose as work wear. It's quite loud and that top is very difficult to pair without looking like uniform of some of the places mentioned above. Can you return it, I see the tag is still attached. More neutral colours are easier to mix and match.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 22/09/2024 21:42

It looks a housekeeping tabard and it won't work with camel.

mestyle · 22/09/2024 21:42

I will check the workwear section on Nect and M&S site thanks

I have been wearing black trousers and different blazers (cherry red, black etc) I am wearing green blazer and black trousers tomorrow

Littleguggi · 22/09/2024 21:43

I have a similar shape blazer but in black, I wear it with a black top and coloured trousers. I think the red is too harsh of a colour

IAmNotYourZiggaZigAhhh · 22/09/2024 21:54

If you’re planning to buy any new work clothes it might be wise to lean in to a more neutral colour palette. Particularly with black trousers, which can look harsh or a little outdated mixed with bright colours. Grey, brown, camel would all be seasonal, contemporary and professional looking.

Can you say (vaguely) what sort of firm / institution you’re working in. Are jackets generally worn there?

Josephinesnapoleon · 22/09/2024 21:55

It’s very uniform like op, did you just buy that? It’s very dated looking, but I’m not sure it’s ever been fashionable. The red makes it a very difficult choice to get away with. Honestly I’d take it back

goingdownfighting · 22/09/2024 22:01

Browns or grey with that I think.

It could work under a grey blazer perhaps.

Grey if you're cool toned, brown if you're warm.

If you love it, keep it but I'd send it back because it isn't versatile and you'd have to buy a lot around it.

PurpleChrayn · 23/09/2024 07:07

I'm not sure anything would go with that and look good.

SunsetSkylane · 23/09/2024 07:08

Definitely not camel 🤢

FaiIureToLunch · 23/09/2024 07:09

I’m sorry but it’s not great. Pick something else!

soupfiend · 23/09/2024 07:19

I think if it was quite cropped and perhaps with a black roll neck and wide leg trousers, quite funky ones, it may look quite funky but in its current format it looks very 70s and not in a retro good way
