I was working out when I brougt my bottle of cleanser and it has to be 10+yrs ago.

I guess it is bad for me to continue using it isn't it?

What do I buy? Cheap and cheerful and available in Tescos please?

What is your skin type?

eternalstudent · 20/04/2008 20:35

Can't you go to Boots instead?

SlightlyMadSweet · 20/04/2008 20:37

Dunno about skin type

Can't really get to boots. I was planning to use it Fri and wanted to stick it on my online shop.

Whats wrong with soap and water?

Hulababy · 20/04/2008 20:43

If going for a less expensive range I like to get the Simple range.

If only removing make up though - baby wipes are great for that.

Farb · 20/04/2008 20:44

I use, ummm, I use an eye make remover that you have to shake. It might be clarins or estee lauder. I mostly use Dove soap and warm water for everything else.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 20/04/2008 20:44

cleansing wipes?

onepieceoflollipop · 20/04/2008 20:45

If I was in Tesco or another supermarket I would buy something from the "Simple" range - normally about £2-£3 and suits most skin types imo. I find Tesco own brand quite harsh.

However, Boots would be better - I like the No7 cleanser, or if really on a very tight budget the basic cucumber cleanser or facial wash.

Oh - chuck that old bottle away and hope Cod doesn't see your op.

sparkleymummy · 20/04/2008 20:45

Do you not wear make up very often or do you not take it off? We really need to know what your skin is like to advise and what sort of budget you have.

Do you get spots?
Do you have oily patches by the end of the day?
Is your skin dry and flaky anywhere?
Is it ever red and sensitive when you put products on it?
Do you have wrinkles/sun damge?

onepieceoflollipop · 20/04/2008 20:47

Your skin type is probably classed as "normal" if you say you don't know. If it was very greasy or very dry then you would probably have noticed?

Sounds like you don't wear make up very frequently (unless you NEVER take it off usually, or have been using your existing cleanser very sparingly!)

SlightlyMadSweet · 20/04/2008 20:49

I wear make-up about twice a year...hence the reason I am about to throw away about 90% of a bottle that has been going 10yrs.

Do you get spots? Only a coupe with AF
Do you have oily patches by the end of the day? Don't think so
Is your skin dry and flaky anywhere? Only after a hot bath
Is it ever red and sensitive when you put products on it? Never noticed it
Do you have wrinkles/sun damge? Don't think so...bags under teh eyes don't count right?

where do I find cods review thread things?

OP posts:
maidamess · 20/04/2008 20:52

Do you want a rinse off one or a wipe off one? if you rarely wear make up, remover wipes (any make) will suffice. if you slather it on with a trowel like I do, something a little sturdier might be in order.

onepieceoflollipop · 20/04/2008 20:53

Ok if you only wear make up twice a year, then I would say get a facial wash that is also suitable for removing make up. Then rather than it going off, you can use it to wash your face in the shower or whatever as well. You could (if wearing a lot of eye make up) get some inexpensive eye make up remover pads - I would imagine that Tesco would sell a range.

If you are planning on wearing make up more regularly, then I would definitely invest in cleanser, toner and separate eye make up remover.

SlightlyMadSweet · 20/04/2008 20:54

Not sure I like the idea of wipes,,,,dunno why.

OP posts:
onepieceoflollipop · 20/04/2008 20:57

I'm not keen on wipes myself - I often still feel a bit sticky/grubby after using a wipe. If I use eye make-up remover wipes they can be a bit oily, so I then get a piece of cotton wool dipped in warm water to wipe the oiliness away and that seems to help.

EffiePerine · 20/04/2008 20:58

cheap cleansing lotion, cleaned off with muslin (or flannel) and warm water. Will remove anything and exfoliate as well

PeachesMcLean · 20/04/2008 21:23

If you only use it twice a year, why bother? Soap and water on normal skin will surely be fine. What do you normally use to wash your face?

Get some eye make up remover pads if you're really bothered by getting mascara off.

SlightlyMadSweet · 20/04/2008 21:26

have ordered simple eye make-up pads & cleansing wiuppes as they were 2 for £4.

Gt bronze from the almightly cod so must be OK.

I use hardcore lippy which deffo needs more than soap and water to get off.

You must put your hand in your pocket i'm afraid and buy some eve lom cleanser.
Nothing can touch it imho, it is THE BEST!!

(actually much cheaper is the liz earle cleanser which is also v v good but I like eve lom)

2shoes · 20/04/2008 21:56

i buy superdrugs own brands they work well.

OsmosisBanana · 20/04/2008 22:48

agree with sorky. Tis the only way.

ladytophamhatt · 21/04/2008 08:01

So what do these things do that soap and water don't??
