I bought a travel size Nivea a couple of weeks ago as I see people saying that they 'swear by it' (and it was 'free' with 2 travel toothpastes) - but if you do use it, how the hell do you apply it?

It's so thick and sticky, it's hard to rub in, I've tried patting it on and leaving a few minutes to see if body temperature melts it a little, but still sticky and difficult to use. Am I being a bit dim?

It does seem to be good though, unless the effects are due to a facial massage every time I use it!

Not the best for your face. Contains perfume and very thick, will clog pores and doesn't absorb as well as a lotion.

Xiaoxiong · 11/09/2024 22:11

I know people in dry and cold places who put it on as a night cream on their faces, but your skin has to be dry to get it to sink in. It's not like normal moisturiser that goes best onto damp skin.

I use it on my feet and elbows!

Sallycinnamum · 11/09/2024 22:25

It is amazing stuff!

I have very, very dry skin and it's the only moisturiser that doesn't leave my skin feeling tight. It's the only beauty product I buy regularly.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 11/09/2024 23:10

It's amazing stuff. I don't understand the OP's question - you put it on your skin.

It's every bit as good as Crème de la Mer.

GrizzLee · 11/09/2024 23:15

I’ve been using it on my neck / chest (after reading a thread on here actually!) and it has definitely improved my lines and overall appearance. Doesn’t work too well on damp skin, as a PP said. And I’m not sure I’d use it on my face. So interested in the crème de la mer comparison @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle - do you put in on your face?

DifficultBloodyWoman · 11/09/2024 23:20

Gently rub it into dry skin. Dry as in not wet. You can use it on dry and combination skin. Not sure about oily.

It doesn’t absorb as quickly as most modern skin creams. It does take longer to apply. But I found that it really does suit my skin.

I do use it on my face. Noticeable improvement in 3 days.

Don’t use too much. A little goes a very long way.

Yes. As a night cream.

AllHisCaterpillarFriends · 11/09/2024 23:22

My gran used to use this. Her skin was amazing.

Mine is not, I shall buy some, but imagine the damage is done.

Releasethebat · 11/09/2024 23:25

I find it good as a hand cream. I used to use it on my face at night sometimes but it can cause breakouts for me plus the perfume is a bit irritating for my eyes. I used to mix a drop or two of rosehip oil with it and that made it go on smoothly. It also helps if you sort of warm it up for a few seconds between your hands and rub them together before you smooth it on to your face.
The comparison with La mer came from the two having similar base ingredients. They have very different active ingredients.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 11/09/2024 23:27

So interested in the crème de la mer comparison

Crème de la Mer was a big disappointment in a tiny pot. It felt like a slightly stiffer Nivea ( I had what was supposed to be the day version but it was too heavy !) but other than that could have been Nivea ( in its large blue bucket sized pot)

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 11/09/2024 23:35

Make of it what you will but Nivea came out better in this test.

Crème de la Mer or Nivea?

Mudflaps · 11/09/2024 23:36

I don't use (but should) but my grandfather used to every day after shaving, he worked outside in harsh conditions and had wrinkle free fantastic skin right up to when he died in his mid 90's!!!

longdistanceclaraclara · 12/09/2024 07:46

I use it a couple of times a week as a night cream on my face. I don't attempt to rub it in but leave it to sink in.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 12/09/2024 07:48

My skin likes it when I’m using tretinoin.

DarkDarkNight · 12/09/2024 07:53

I might give it a go on my neck. I’ve really noticed the ageing there recently and have been slathering on a hyaluronic serum and a Vit C moisturiser I can’t use in my face as it breaks me out in spots. I much prefer the Nivea Soft formula but I suppose it’s the blue Nivea that is needed?

yankpan · 12/09/2024 07:53

I use it as a night cream and find if I let it warm a bit in my hands before I apply then it goes on easier

Crème de la Mer or Nivea?

That’s really interesting! I might try it on my face. Thanks @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle
Good old Nivea 👍🏻

Imalongtimepostingmum · 12/09/2024 08:06

I used it when I was a student because it was cheap. Until I realised it was making my excema worse due to the perfume. Wouldn't put it anywhere near my face now.

They've changed the Nivea soft formula. It's not nice at all now 😡 it's sticky and doesn't smell the same.

LittleBearPad · 12/09/2024 08:08

Warm it up a bit and then rub it on. It will sink in over time.

We are removing this while we do some checks behind the scenes.

GreenPoppy · 12/09/2024 09:07

I find it really hard to put on as well, I feel like I'm really dragging my skin around to try and rub it in.

ChangeEmailAddress · 12/09/2024 12:48

That's exactly what I mean! The dragging, it seems to happen whatever I try to do.

Crème de la Mer or Nivea?

Such a strange article. She says the Nivea just disappeared into her skin but we all know that's not what Nivea does.

She also says " But measuring and warming the cream, then gently patting it into my skin, adds ten minutes to my morning routine."
That's just ridiculous. If scooping out a product and rubbing between your fingers for ooooo 4 seconds before applying is adding 10 minutes onto routine then she's doing something weird. How exactly does she apply her Nivea? Shove her face in the pot directly?

It's clearly such a biased article

The big points for me are that a) even she points out, the expensive cream has no fragrance. Fragrance is very harsh on many skins. B) Nivea smells like a chemical factory.

I don't use CdM. In fact I use really simple creams but ones that are pleasant to use and without a pungent smell. Nivea fails on both

Um, Nivea does disappear into my skin. Crème de la Mer was more of a faff.
