Ladies, Honest Opinions Of This Dress?

So to start, I added a picture of a pair of shoes I own that I've been searching for a dress to pair with. I've since come across the dress shown in photo, and I imagine it to be a match made in heaven. I know it's kinda Barbie haha but I love the 1950s look. I would unbutton the dress more from the top so it isn't so Stepford wife though haha what do you ladies think? I'm also thinking it would be so cute for a maternity look (pregnant with a daughter). Just wanted some honest 2nd opinions so please feel free to share your thoughts with me!! <3

The shoes are a warm pink, the dress is a cool pink. The dress is lovely though.

Revolting. Especially those gopping shoes.

I immediately thought of Nora Batty in her dressing gown.

ManhattanPopcorn · 09/09/2024 21:53

Barbara Cartland could carry it off but not many could.

I'm all for vintage/rockabilly almost aesthetic, but this misses the mark a bit for me personally.

Maybe if it was shorter and the bow was behind rather than in the front, and like you say, not so highly buttoned up?
I'd also say shorter sleeves honestly - It's not very shapely either having a second look at it!

You'd be better off with dresses more like this I'd say, though not very practical for maternity tbh :/
Personally the lighter pink w/ cherries would be my go-to, though I don't expect them to go well with your shoes unfortunately!

EDIT; Of course the images didn't add correctly!

It got a very Grayson Perry vibe, especially if worn with some cute hair ribbons.

N4ish · 09/09/2024 22:21

Sorry, it’s really awful! Like something my 6 year old would wear for dressing up.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 09/09/2024 22:47

This dress appeared on another thread only a couple of weeks ago. There's a blue version as well. I like both of them. Both look better without the belts.

The cheapo, fake vintage alternatives OP has been offered are depressingly awful.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 09/09/2024 23:11

It's not for me, but if you like it, go ahead.

SpicyMoth · 09/09/2024 23:15

Ouch @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle ! 😂😅
Each to their own, different people have different budgets - We have no idea what OP's budget is and not everyone on MN is well off!

Like the dress if you are tall and slim, hate the shoes

Why do posters keep saying this? About just about everything?

You don't need to be tall and slim to wear that dress.

unlikelywitch · 09/09/2024 23:35

I’d actually kind of love it if it weren’t for the sleeves! There’s something off about the length and fit of them.

The OP's shoes are Roger Vivier. I suppose OP might have got hers in a sale or Vinted but flats similar to hers start at over £600 rising to over £1400.

TheChosenTwo · 09/09/2024 23:44

Oh no I really don’t like it 🫠 sorry!
it does look like a diner worker or a dressing gown. I do think it might be better without the belt but if you like it and you’d feel comfortable in it then just bloody get it, life would be so dull if everyone dressed boringly (like me 😂).
I do like colourful clothes but this looks a bit drab and wishy washy somehow despite also being quite gaudy!

I've found high end expensive designer brands in charity shops before to be fair, point taken though.
I wasn't invested enough to search out the exact dress or shoes, I guess that's my bad there - Either way, not every MNer is financially well off😅

blahblahblah24 · 10/09/2024 01:13

I like girly and vintage styles but that's a shapeless sack.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 10/09/2024 01:21

I think the pink dress would look quite pretty as a maternity dress, if it fits your bump well and that's your style! I agree that having a few of the buttons undone at the top would be a good look too.

Illpickthatup · 09/09/2024 22:08

I like this website for bright coloured fun dresses. And they're cheap if you're not going to get much wear out of it.

You’ve just introduced me to a new favourite. Thanks!

Pink dress

Is £194 cheap or expensive?

DancingNotDrowning · 10/09/2024 07:04

I don’t hate it, but think you could do much better if you’re looking for a classic shirt dress style.

Deathraystare · 10/09/2024 12:59

I hate the shoes. They love plastic and cheap! Sorry!

KateMiskin · 10/09/2024 13:02

Way too saccharine for me. Those shoes look like Minnie Mouse.
