33 year old going to hen night next weekend and don't want to feel 'mumsy'

FrazzledFairyFay · 19/04/2008 11:06

Please help me - I'm 33, size 20, 5ft 11. I'm going to a hen night in Nottingham next weekend, and am the only Mum going. We're going for dinner, then cocktails and then onto a 'cheesy' club. I really don't know what to wear. I'm desperate not to feel too 'mumsy' or 'frumpy'. I don't even know what people wear to going clubbing anymore, as it's been so long - are jeans acceptable?

Does anyone have any ideas?

fairy, the top you have bought is lovely....can you post a link on here and hopefully someone will have some advice for you.

posieflump · 19/04/2008 13:01

It's best to ask the hen what sort of dress code the club has. Do you know it's name, we could google it?

PatsyCline · 19/04/2008 13:45

I'm very of your height, FFF!

I think the important thing is to feel happy and yourself while still glam! I occasionally go to a cheesy club for a dance and there's a real mixture of outfits. Don't feel that you have to show off too much flesh to look fabulous.

This would look fab with black footless tights and is in stock in a 20.

If you prefer patterns, how about this?

SmugColditz · 19/04/2008 14:01

Nottingham can be quite fussy on dress codes, you are safer with black trousers really. Depends where you are going.

aGalChangedHerName · 19/04/2008 14:02

Hey NP should have got you to dress me for tonight lol.

You are very good at this!!

SmugColditz · 19/04/2008 14:03

Just dn't wear a cardigan, like I'm always tempted to. You can do it when you are 19, but once you are over 25, cardigans look too apt.

nailpolish · 19/04/2008 14:05

agalch i am jiust back from town

we should ahve met up

nailpolish · 19/04/2008 14:06

aGalChangedHerName · 19/04/2008 14:10

I wasn't in town NP.Just down at McArthur Glen and i got bugger all. I may not come at this rate

SmugColditz · 19/04/2008 14:10

yes yes I know. But very safe, and a good frame for a very snazzy top. Depends on built.

At 5'11 I would wear a skirt and get those lovely pins out tbh

nailpolish · 19/04/2008 14:10

pull yourself together! go and have a gin and orange! then you wont care and you will come in your baffies

nailpolish · 19/04/2008 14:11

yes i agree with colditz get those loooooooong legs out

the leopard print dress i linked i saw in dp today - its v v v v nice

aGalChangedHerName · 19/04/2008 14:13

Haha yeah chance would be a fine thing. Will have a drink when DH gets home from work at 5.30 and then get dressed with my eyes closed.

I may have to wear black trews tho so be warned!!

nailpolish · 19/04/2008 14:18

just ignore me and my fashion nitpicking. wear what you like! i have 3 pairs of black breeks

foxythesnowfox · 19/04/2008 16:24

I love, love, love that Oli tunic top. Shame its not back in for 2 weeks.

High-heels are a must. If there's one way to de-mummify instantly its a good pair of heels. Sod comfort, you can take your pumps in a bag for the homeward journey.

foxythesnowfox · 19/04/2008 18:37

BTW, only some sizes aren't in stock on that tunic.

How about this one? with leggings and boots?

foxythesnowfox · 19/04/2008 18:45

wedges

lackaDAISYcal · 19/04/2008 19:00

i like those shoes foxy!

everything i like on Oli's website is out of stock

FrazzledFairyFay · 19/04/2008 19:08

Thanks for all the help everyone, sorry to start the thread and run away . I will have a good look at everything now.

FrazzledFairyFay · 19/04/2008 19:09

OP posts:
FrazzledFairyFay · 19/04/2008 19:10

but i can take the top back if i find something better. I am all of a confusion!

OP posts:
lackaDAISYcal · 19/04/2008 19:15

would the evans trousers nailpolish linked go well?

FrazzledFairyFay · 19/04/2008 19:42

Thr trousers might go but having looked closely at the top, I think some dark brown ones would be best.

I love all the other suggestions, particularly the Oli tops. Unfortunately the first is out of stock for two weeks and the second only goes up to a size 14 . I really like the idea of a smock top, leggings and boots but really not sure that I can carry it off, as I am too 'lumpy' . I might give it a go though and will look for some more.

Shoes/boots are a big issue as well as I'm a size 9/10.
