I have read that Daisy was a force to be reckoned with when it came to her sons. Fred had a previous girlfriend who was unsuitable because she was Danish and Daisy and Henrik wanted them both to marry foreigners as that was the tradition.

Plus she may have forced Joachim and Alexandra to stay married when they wanted to split up because Fred was not yet married. There hadn't been a divorce in the royal family for centuries.

That might be what you are alluding to @AllTangledUpInMyMonkeyNutNecklace. Mary was in the right place at the right time and wasn't Danish so she was in!

KillingMeDeftIy · 22/09/2024 19:33

I don't know who the last consort born in Denmark was! The Netherlands has never had a native-born consort either. Perhaps that'll all change with the next generation.

Oh Daisy, unsuitable because she was Danish. That's awful, Fred might have been a happier man.

Camilla was thought unsuitably fast, and look how that turned out.

Doesn't pay to meddle in your children's lives to this extent.

KillingMeDeftIy · 22/09/2024 20:08

Oh that's one of those weird anti-Mary blogs that were around about 10-12 years ago.

Mary takes up the reins as Queen as Fred overseas.

Anne bumps into Lady Louise , dressed in the uniform of the St Andrews military I wanna say regiment?

That is the most lovely picture of Anne and Louise, thank you for posting it.

Every so often you get photos that suggest that behind the scenes the aunties, uncles and cousins are all very close.

Papergirl1968 · 22/09/2024 20:43

On the subject of royal
relations, Savannah and Isla Phillips, and mum Autumn Kelly, were there to support Auntie Zara at the Blenheim horse trials.

There are occasional articles that seem to try and portray Anne as cold, aloof etc but I suspect that like my seemingly stern Great Aunty Ann (dad's side) and my redouble Aunt Anne (mum's sister) that she is actually the family lynchpin who is beloved by everyone. My biggest regret relating to my infertility is that I didn't get to have an Anne girl to name after two of my favourite women (and my literary heroine).

Papergirl1968 · 22/09/2024 20:52

Zara seems a very huggy person.
The Phillips girls are 13 and 12 now. Another generation of royals growing up fast and sure to provide us with plenty to discuss fashion wise in a few years, along with the Tindalls, and Charlotte of course.

Papergirl1968 · 22/09/2024 20:53

Helps if I attach the huggy photos!

I think Zara is probably proof that Anne may be no nonsense but she’s not as cold and aloof off duty as she appears when she’s working.
I’m sorry @Runningupthecurtains, that must be very tough. I don’t have birth children. I adopted and that turned out to be a complete nightmare but I do now have a DGD who I adore.

I managed to have one child, my gorgeous boy who I love to the ends of the earth, I would not swap him for any number of girls even if I could. I don't subscribe to gender stereotypes so never yearned for pink frocks or ballet classes but I'm a little sad that the children of my generation on both sides are all boys so the remarkable woman of earlier generations haven't had their names carried on.
Fingers crossed for some girls among the next generation and that they carry some of the names that have served out family for centuries.

Papergirl1968 · 22/09/2024 21:17

Ah, I see. I’m glad you have a lovely son.

We are very lucky and extremely grateful to live in an era when a range of treatment options was available - but I don't think he would thank me if I'd called him Anne, even as a middle name!

Maireas · 22/09/2024 21:35

Lovely huggy pictures! I have a lot of respect for Anne.
I hope that name carries on for you in following generations, @Runningupthecurtains .
@Papergirl1968 I'm glad you have a lovely granddaughter.

No indeed, @Runningupthecurtains 🤦‍♀️

Papergirl1968 · 22/09/2024 21:53

Just found Socks!
Matt took to lying on the new baby’s pram carrycot so I moved it. Looks like Socks has taken it a step further and has got in it. I just went in the room and her little head popped out.
DD2 will go mad! 😂

I don't mind a little kitty intrusion 🐈‍⬛. Cats are at the very least regal if not godly.

justasking111 · 22/09/2024 22:54

Do any of the royals have cats?

Good question! They're all such dog lovers, aren't they?

Guillaume and Stephanie, unfortunately not with our mascots! They're visiting Ferrero - I do hope they got samples!
Stephanie's trouser suit is ok, although I think the jacket needs to be taken in, and I'd swap the bag and shoes for maybe a tan clutch and loafers?

I agree about the trouser suit. It’s ok but that’s about all you can say. And the high shoes aren’t quite right with it. On the other hand, I really like the lady in the dress and beige jacket’s two tone Mary-Jane’s 😍
