Lanx, Blundstone or Solovair?

ForSaleChesterDraws · 01/09/2024 19:32

I’m on the look out for a new pair of winter boot and ideally want a burgundy Chelsea boot (or even a Chelsea boot with brogue detailing on the front). I have wide feet and wondered which of the 3 to try. I have some solovair black monkey boots from Toast that have worn well, but am also tempted by Blundstones or Lanx.

Has any I’ve had experience with Blundstones or Lanx with wide feet? And if so which ones did you buy?

Hi, have had a couple of pairs of blundstone - first when I was 15 and got another pair last year (49), but they are safety boots for wok but I actually wear them a lot. They’re good for wide feet IMO. Give them a go 😊

puppyparent · 01/09/2024 19:35

I bought a pair of Lanx recently and I do love them but I think they are narrow (I have very narrow feet)

SwedishEdith · 01/09/2024 19:38

Watching as thinking of trying Solovair. I do have Blundstones, had for about 4 years. I wanted to love them but they're just not quite comfortable enough for me. I don't think they're snug enough for me so may work better on wider feet. And they're not bouncy enough plus dreadful on ice. Maybe other styles are better.

We have a few pairs of Lanx in our household and the quality hasn't been amazing.

Which Blundstones did you get? They do a classics (550) which is lined and meant to be more roomy than the originals (500).

I noticed that a lot of the newer ranges are made around the world rather than in Lancashire and it’s put me off slightly, especially knowing the QC issues that DMs have now they are no longer made in the UK.

Just checked and 508. I did wonder if other styles were more comfortable.

I just looked them up and they are originals, which are meant to be a snugger fit with a longer break in period.

I've got 4 pairs of Lanx and got my eye on another pair. My feet are quite wide and I love them. The last pair I bought was in April and they have hardly been off me.
DH and son also have a few pairs each.

Any particular ones wider than others and if so which ones?

Definitely not Lanx. I bought some boots from them and the tongue on one boot twisted round to the back.

I complained and they said to send them back. They kept them for over a month and only added lace stays, didn't sort out the original problem.

I complained again. Their customer service was really poor, quite rude and argumentative. Eventually they agreed to replace them but the pair they replaced them with are even worse than the original pair. By this point I couldn't face complaining again. The boots were so expensive, I really expected them to be better.

Oh that’s disappointing to hear, especially from a company that promotes themselves as a small local British business.

I am shocked at this as I have 4 pairs, Dh has a pair of shoes and a pair of boots and both sons have a couple of pairs each that they've had for years. I've always has brilliant service from them
Op, you asked which ones I have. They are
REED
WHALLEY ash brkwn
CHIPPING in mahogany and khaki.
Dinckley in black grained

I've got my Lanx on today and they are so comfortable, even though my feet are wide and I have a bunion!

Lanx, Blundstone or Solovair?
ForSaleChesterDraws · 02/09/2024 19:12

Thanks for your pictures @notacooldad. In the end I’ve ordered Solovair as going through the Lanx website, everything seems brown/ tan rather than burgundy or cherry red. If they don’t fit I am going to try the Lanx.

RVEllacott · 02/09/2024 19:16

OP I can see you've ordered Solovair but if they don't work out then Lanx might be worth a try. I'm a wide-footed Lanx wearer and love them.

Xyz1234567 · 02/09/2024 19:51

I thought this was going to be one of those, "What shall I call my new baby?' threads!

BrakesOff · 02/09/2024 21:00

Lanx have terrible customer service. Their replies to bad reviews on Trustpilot are very revealing. Love my Blundstones very much though and have never needed their customer service as they arrived perfectly many years ago and are still going strong despite doing hard yard work.

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 02/09/2024 22:06

After taking advice on here recently, I opted for Solovair and I have very pleased with the fit (I have a wide foot).
They're not entirely trouble free to break in, but pretty much so.
I'm now planning my second pair (because I now realise that I bought the wrong colour in the first place).

RobinEllacotStrike · 02/09/2024 22:07

I have these blundstones and they are a little wider than the classic style.

I love them

Milsonophonia · 02/09/2024 22:08

My Blundstones are the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever bought. I gave them to dd. They hurt my big toe joint and the soles feel thin and hard. Disappointed.

StiggyZardust · 02/09/2024 22:11

I have two pairs of Blundstones and I love them. I find them incredibly comfortable, I'm a healthcare worker and wear them every day.
I bought a pair of Lanx but had to return them, too narrow and stiff.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 07/09/2024 19:54

Update! I went to the Lanx shop and tried some of their footwear on and my goodness it is narrow fitting!

Have had 3 pairs of Solovair delivered- burgundy rub off dealer boots (a Chelsea boot), burgundy rub off brogue boots and burgundy gaucho leather derby boots. I love the leather of the gaucho, it’s so soft and wears beautifully. I prefer the shape of the dealer and brogue’s but reading up on reviews the rub off leather can crack. It’s a pity they only use the gaucho leather for the regular 8 hole boot. As yet I am still undecided!

@ForSaleChesterDraws if you do decide to have a go with Blundstones, they do a separate wide fit in each model. You might have to order from the Blundstone shop, or Aussie Boots, but it's worth it if you need wide. Because it's an Australian brand, they have an odd way of sizing them - anything with a half size actually means the wide version - eg: 5.5 = 5 wide

Thanks, had spotted that the half sizes are wide fit. They have made boots in a colour called Shiraz but nobody stocks them in the UK.

ah yes! I had some in that colour a while ago - might be worth looking on Ebay for a BNWT pair?
