Trainers/shoes for if you’re on your feet all day?

Koalityone · 31/08/2024 07:00

Started a new job last year where I’m on my feet for the majority of the day, my usual footwear isn’t cutting it and I’m struggling with pains in my feet (granted I am slightly overweight so that isn’t helping)

Any suggestions please?

I looked at Skechers but the reviews are so mixed and lots saying they fall apart easily.

Skechers.

They don't last but they are very comfortable.

I have also had some success with hotter

PortiasBiscuit · 31/08/2024 07:02

Crocs?

bravotango · 31/08/2024 07:02

The only shoes I wear all day are Birkenstocks, I have flat feet and they are very supportive

Koalityone · 31/08/2024 07:08

Lots have recommended Birkenstocks actually so will invest in a pair for the warmer months.
I work in a nursery so I do spend some of my day outside (in all weathers) so crocs & birks are fine inside but need something for outside too

You can buy the Birkenstock insoles to go in other shoes. They also do styles other than sandals so you might be able to get something suitable year round

Sketchers for me. It’s like wearing comfy slippers. They can go in the washing machine & mine last quite well. I’m only on my 3rd work pair in 10 years at my job.

Octavia64 · 31/08/2024 07:29

I also had these which lasted quite well.

Depends what you do but I'm a teacher and find Skechers arch support the business for my walking/train commute (I have plantar fasciitis and back issues and am a bit overweight!) and then have a selection of Hotter ballet flats with arch support for wearing in the building.

Decathlon are a good cheap alternative. Their walking/running trainers are great if not waterproof (Skechers are shower proof).

Skechers only stand up to <year of hard use but Hotter are nearly indestructible!

I have problems with my feet and I have Fitville trainers. Expensive but my feet are so comfortable

QuillBill · 31/08/2024 07:31

I'd wear crocs inside and snow boots outside in the winter.

I like wearing something not so clumpy with little children as you spend so much time on the floor.

Phineyj · 31/08/2024 07:32

My previous post got cropped.

I said Skechers only stand up to 6-12 months of heavy use but Hotter are practically indestructible.

GreenSmithing · 31/08/2024 07:46

There's a reason why Crocs have a following amongst hospital staff, kitchen staff and hairdressers. They are the ultimate 'on your feet all day' shoe. Not all the styles are clumpy, and they do last for ages. My sandals are on their 4th summer and will be good for a couple more.

Agree that hotter boots also last a couple of years and are good for colder weather.

furryblanky · 31/08/2024 07:48

My most comfy shoes are my Vans

PandyMoanyMum · 31/08/2024 07:50

Hoka trainers all day long. Expensive but worth it.

I didn't mean crocs are clumpy. I mean crocs are light for playing inside, being on the floor etc compared with big old boots which you do need for the outside parts of the day.

Joya shoes are £150-200 a pair but worth every penny for those with back/feet problems. I'm giving serious consideration to a pair of their trainers.

socks1107 · 31/08/2024 08:05

I wear adidas trainers and I'm walking all day.

Thursdaygirl · 31/08/2024 12:28

Skechers every time!

Blingismything · 31/08/2024 12:47

Fitflop trainers are great.

waltzingparrot · 31/08/2024 12:55

I'm on my feet a lot. It's Skechers for me. Nothing else as comfy. I wear one pair constantly and they last me a couple of years. Worth every penny.

I get mine from Pavers - they sell a limited range of Sketchers but they are cheaper.

Koalityone · 31/08/2024 13:19

Thanks all, I think I will give the Skechers a try.
I do wear crocs at home and love them but it’s a bit of a pain having to change into outdoor shoes quickly at work and as another poster pointed out it’s tricky to be in clumpy boots when down on the floor all day with little ones.

I'm in the same position and love my new balance 327s that i recently bought. I don't think we can wear crocs and my birkenstocks are backless so no good.
Other staff wear skechers and doc martens. I average 20,000 steps a day so hoping these last for the upcoming year.

Koalityone · 31/08/2024 15:12

Oh I love my new balance 327s but I find if I wear them to work they pinch my toes a bit at the front after a full day.
love them for general wear though!
