Fabulous Lipsticks - How Often Do You Wear?

PearlsAreGirlsBestFriend · 30/08/2024 21:53

I live in a cosy market town, Barbour wellies and Shoffel gilet type.
Do not see much lipstick worn here or day-to-day in my corporate office. I love a lipstick though only have 2, but spend hours looking at them online and always swatch something new when out and about.

Curious about all the lipsticks I see in shops - what happens to them, if I see so few women wear bright colours. How often do you wear yours?

Love it, but I can't get it to stay on even the longer lasting ones. Plus dries my lips.

I usually put a bit of balm on first then all over in a lip pencil ( clinique crushed berry is my fave) then top with a gloss or oil.

Hello Rainbows, I think the balm might be why it’s not staying on. It can’t ‘key’ to slippy balm. I put my foundation over my lips, use a clear lip liner, and my lipstick stays all day.

My foundation is only a light one, a step up from tinted moisturiser, so not like I’m putting the lipstick on top of ultra long lasting heavy base.

My mother is also a professional lipstick wearer 🤣 and she fills her whole lips with a red lip liner and lipsticks on top. Works for her.

I love lipstick! Lisa Eldridge is my favourite. She has some lovely wearable reds, Velvet Rain is my favourite for daytime. She has one called Velvet Ribbon a bit like Ruby Woo from Mac but a tiny bit more blue in the base. I wear a browny pink from her called Kitten Mischief for darker eye make up. I love her lipsticks!!

I also love those new sort of lip blushes, they’re like muted and look like when you’ve stained lipstick in with your finger. A bit gimmicky maybe but really nice. The one I got was Orchid from Refy.

It's got so that when I fly, my plastic bag for liquid/paste/gel is filled with lipstick and little else.
I use three muted shades (a peachy nude, a beige nude and a matte terracotta) regularly and I have some bright oranges and reds for occasional use.
I don't think I'd put it on if I wasn't leaving the house but even if I'm wearing no/little makeup it's a quick and easy way to feel polished.

These all sound lovely, I'm cool toned so only really suit corals, but I have had a few oranges that look good. Rimmel In Love With Ginger and Smash box Get Fired. Both discontinued 😢

Deathraystare · 01/09/2024 15:00

A lot of women don't wear it at all or if they do, keep it for 'out outs'! I wear it everyday. Warm tones though I also have Ruby Woo which is blue tones. On the whole I like satin or gloss/creamy as matte is ageing I feel. Everything from MUA, Boots 17 to Dior and Estee Lauder plus some Lisa Etheridge.

trainedopossum · 01/09/2024 15:04

Buster I feel your pain, my best nudes (Jane Iredale Molly and Gabby) have just been discontinued too 😮 so I bought a handful.
If you like coral Mac Vegas Volt is a good one.
Garden I love the texture and finish of Nars lipsticks, they have that soft, ombré quality that's a bit like a balm or stain. Currently wearing Casablanca.

SwedishEdith · 01/09/2024 15:08

I don't leave the house without lipstick or some sort of lip stain. I like the Maybelline long lasting ones because they do last. I've a few Mac lipsticks but I'm disappointed in them - little staying power on my lips but both bleed around the edges. No other lipsticks really do that.

deeahgwitch · 01/09/2024 15:19

I look like death if I don't wear lipstick.
I wear it all the time.

Coral lipsticks suit my skin colouring but make my teeth look yellow Sad
I love pinks and mauves.
Nude lipsticks do nothing for me.

I have exactly this problem, only with Mac. I think it’s the shea butter in Mac, makes them feel nice going on but sliiiiiiide straight off!

Lilolily · 01/09/2024 15:28

Every day all day. I feel like Voldemort without - my lips blend in.
Not always been bright but everyone associates red lipstick with me.

To get your lipstick to stay on you need to wipe the balm off first. I then put a bit of loose powder on before pencil etc. The balm is bringing your lipstick off

I have had Vegas Volt. I loved it.

@BusterGonad I am also cool toned - which corals would you recommend? Thank you.

Inspired by this thread, I have purchased an estee lauder matte lipstick usually I find mattes really drying but these are not bad at all. So far it is actually staying on despite multiple things passing my lips ( food, drink , nothing exciting).

What's the best way to make it last is the apply blot reapply rule still a thing? And what do I use to blot, tissue? How does the foundation before thing work literally just put foundation on your lips? Blot? I'd be afraid of this affecting the colour. It's a lovely burgundy- fig shade. Just right for Autumn.

PearlsAreGirlsBestFriend · 05/09/2024 17:48

@IDontHateRainbows sounds fab - what is the shade name?

I wear lipstick everyday, depending on what I'm wearing it can be red, coral, bright pink, nude pink, rose or peach - just never beige nude. Always with a lip liner too.

heartsinvisiblefury · 05/09/2024 20:53

I wear a red orange 🍊 colour which I love.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 05/09/2024 20:56

Fabulous lipstick and fabulous perfume everyday.

expiredplants · 05/09/2024 21:23

I’ve got out of the habit but should really start again. I get compliments about how well I look when I wear lipstick. Always cool brights or I look like a corpse though.

zaxxon · 05/09/2024 21:46

I've been eyeing the Merit signature lip range. Beautiful colours, semi-sheer so you can layer them up for a deeper shade. The problem is, there's no Merit retail outlet in the UK so you can't try them on. I'm not spending nearly £30 on a mail-order lipstick that might look awful on me

StormingNorman · 05/09/2024 22:14

I usually wear a tinted balm but love a neon-bright orange red from time to time. I try experimenting but always go back to Mac’s So Chaud and Lady Danger.

TeaAndCakeFTW · 05/09/2024 22:19

I prefer lip stain, benetint, (daily) but I have recently bought a coffee and heather shimmer (when I go out, which is rarely).

Let me have a think.

lifebeginz · 06/09/2024 16:39

I love lipstick. I don't wear it every day but more often than not. And i kind of vary between very neutral and pale rose shades to bright red. I live on a farm in the arse end of nowhere and rarely venture too far but I don't care - I wear it for me :) I have worse Dior 999 to go post parcels at the village shop :)
