Second hand Cos off eBay and vented. Better quality fabrics hang much better and are more flattering.

Yes this. I don't know why you would need to be looking specifically at plus size brands, pretty much everywhere goes up to 18 don't they?

Also, with the oversize styles that are around at the moment, a lot of clothes are sized broadly - M/L, L/XL.

This! When I was a 18 I’d just shop in usual shops as pretty much everywhere goes to an 18. I’d buy XL in Zara. I’ve never shopped specifically plus size.

The OP has already illustrated / explained what she’s finding when she tries her local physical shops at the price point she can manage.

So she needs other options.

If you have instagram follow Laura Adlington. She is great for affordable plus size fashion ideas.

This is why I now hate buying clothes. I've got a staple wardrobe that I wear at home and it's simply leggings with a fat face dress. I buy the Simone style and although they are expensive they last a long time. For work dresses I buy from Roman and wear with tights. They last a year max though.

The other thing you may want to think about, @Whatwear is underwear. This really is something worth taking care over and spending money on if necessary.

Have you ever looked at

Skims?

The website has everything but you can find a selection at your nearest Selfridges. And then compare and contrast with what’s available at Primark (which has some excellent shapewear if you can locate it in store).

The right underpinnings will make a difference to how clothes look.

And you may even want to consider Skims’ dresses and loungewear - which are fabulous for confident women who feel comfortable with their bodies at any size. Several colleagues of mine who might be described as plus sized - much larger than you - wear long black Skims dresses for work and look magnificent.

Dd has quite a few bits from Cider and Fat face in larger sizes.

Domoda · 20/08/2024 09:38

In addition to the above suggestions, try Cider curve, simply be, curvissa, Dorothy Perkins curve, new look curve, river island curve

This is Unfolded go up to 22.

I have lots of pieces from their collections and wear them often.

They do a bigger bust range and tall range too, and use mostly natural fibres.

Currently in this & it's fab to wear:

Next online and M&S seem to be the best I've found. Occasionally TK max has something.

Hucklemuckle · 20/08/2024 18:28

I'm confused about the posters saying they are a size 18 but wear a 22

Doesn't that mean they are a size 22?

No because if I want to wear a structured dress or jeans then I’m an 18- anything larger with a proper waist would fall down. But I don’t really like to wear those sorts of things, I like oversized stuff. Wide legged elasticated waist trousers, baggy boxy t shirts, oversized t shirts with leggings and chunky trainers etc - in those I’d wear a 22 or even larger in the T shirts. I don’t want everything clinging to me. I think it’s more flattering that it doesn’t.
