I like Hush, Saint &sofia, Lucy & yak, next, Finisterre, free people. I'm quite casual though, so depends what you're into. I agree with pp that it's the jumpsuits in your photo that are at fault, not your body. Have you looked at what shape you are and what styles suit that shape?

ForPearlViper · 19/08/2024 11:45

Have you looked at QVC? You don't have to telly shop, they have a good website. They're no longer just cheap nylon stuff (although there is still some of that). They now have a very wide range of brands including White Stuff, Seasalt, Masai and some less familiar names.

I suggest it because their sizing is very inclusive and they have a 60 day money back guarantee if you don't like something.

This is what standard High Street clothes look like on plus size women not flattering at all not nasty comments I'm back on healthy eating today I'm trying to lose the weight..

I don't think those fit properly, they are way too tight around the middle - if you like that style then size up - it's meant to be flowy around the hips and thighs, It may just be that the shape isn't right for you, you might be better with separate trousers and top.
Try H&M, Next, Primark..but don't get fixated on the size. Sizes are just a guide, always try on 2 sizes to see which hangs better. You might find you need an 18 for tops but 20 for bottoms.

mumonthehill · 19/08/2024 12:41

Interesting re Hush as never bought from them before but just ordered a dress from the JL sale. It will be interesting to see how it fits!

FoFanta · 19/08/2024 12:48

Neither of those jump suits fit you properly and even if they did, they wouldn't suit you. Not everything suits every body shape, and this is true whether you are fat or thin or anywhere in between.

But yes, you absolutely deserve to wear clothes that make you feel amazing about yourself and that you can move in. Lucy & Yak do great jumpsuits that are cut for bigger bodies and will accommodate your tummy. I'm sure you will find some on Vinted that you can try.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 19/08/2024 12:52

Those jumpsuits look too small for you. I haven't put on any weight, but went from wearing 12/14 to 16/18 and look much better for it. Try a larger size and better quality fabrics.

HighlandCowbag · 19/08/2024 12:52

Jump suits are terribly unflattering on larger women unless they are quite expensive with nice thick material and fit properly. They don't fit.

I'm a size 16/18 and although I have 2 jumpsuits in a size 18, they look terrible on me atm, I need to be a 14/16 to look OK in them.

I like Lipsy, Love and Roses, M and S and Next. They do have some frumpy stuff but also some stuff I would say is too young for me (46). I do find it difficult at my current size to shop in actual shops unless I go to some of the bigger stores. Have a look online at some of the places recommended and see if they have a click and collect service? Then you can try on and return straight away.

At the moment if I go Out Out I am wearing some black jeans from Next and a nice blouse style top from either Lipsy or Love and Roses.

And don't stint on treating yourself to nice clothes just because you are planning on losing weight. Mine is up and down and always has been. So I dress in the size my body is the day I buy the item, not what I plan to be. It makes me feel happy to have nice clothes that fit well regardless of my size. Squeezing into a size 14 doesn't make me a size 14. And then I just feel fatter and more self conscious and then probably drink too much beer to make up for it and put on another 1lb.

InTheBleakMidsummer · 19/08/2024 12:58

I think you may need to be prepared to spend a little more than basic High Street prices. (Or buy pre-owned.)

Have you looked at

Beyond Nine?

They go up to size 22 - but more importantly their whole purpose is to accommodate expanded or expansive middles - stylishly.

Also I can confirm that clothes from both

Palava
Batsheva

(linked by a pp) look, if anything, better on larger sized figures. They are not wildly expensive but they do cost more than H&M or Emm & Ess. Again, you could look for these brands on pre-owned sites. Online really is your friend.

Green777 · 19/08/2024 13:10

My sister in law is a 16 but likes very flowy linens etc and dresses from John Lewis, Sahara, Seasalt, White Stuff

Bignanna · 19/08/2024 13:31

As others said, those outfits are too small for you. Although I am size 18-20, I hav3 to buy 22 in some brands. I don’t care what the label says, it’s how clothes fit that matters! Nothing wrong with Yours, their sizing is generous.

PragmaticDramatic · 19/08/2024 14:03

Monki

PianPianPiano · 19/08/2024 14:41

I get a lot of stuff from Roman - they do a lot in plus sizes that are flattering. Also Yours and SimplyBe are other places I look.

Mary46 · 19/08/2024 18:40

Op I think Fat Face do good sizings. I agree yours clothing can be hit and miss I got a few summery dresses there.

Tomanyflaws · 19/08/2024 21:12

Dresses to hide my stomach nice fitting jeans to hide my stomach and some fashionable tops to cover my belly..

overgrowntoddler · 19/08/2024 11:38

I'm a size 18 and shop at George, Matalan, new look and primark and the odd bit of something else. I get hush from vinted

I avoid Jump suits as they are really difficult to wear and fit. I wear skirts and tops instead and culottes. Shorts and t shirts

Right now I have on tevas, miley denim
shorts from Asda and new look striped top.

You have gorgeous shoulders, collar bone and décolleté.

I spend a lot of time shopping and trying on and returning as things are much tricker to fit on bigger bodies.

Which shop is that?

Thanks don't really osy attention to tjide areas more my chin and belly and thighs i don't like itd select fashion it's called.

arlequin · 19/08/2024 21:59

They are lovely i genuinely cannot afford to pay £100 for one item though it's not affordable for me il look for pre loved on vinted and ebay though.

Amazon essentials. T.shirts soft and comfy. Lonsleeved t.shirts ditto and their 'brush tech' hoodies are brilliant, soft, stretchy, cover my marshmallow chub, and camels toes!
Jeans peacocks, George or M & S. I like deep pockets as a don't like bags, but need somewhere to put my phone and keys!

Bosabosa · 19/08/2024 22:59

Joanie is great and always has a sale on

It's probably not what OP is looking for the Joannie Celia Birtwell collection is gorgeous.

Pigeonqueen · 19/08/2024 23:44

I’m a size 18 but I buy everything in a size 22 as I don’t want things to be tight. Oversized everything is quite fashionable at the moment. Those jumpsuits are unflattering because they’re too clingy and not enough fabric to hang nicely.

I shop mostly at Asos (they have a curve section), h and m and next.

Do look for some of those better quality brands pre-owned then! You’ll be amazed at how more skilful cutting and weightier fabrics skim and enhance your figure. Honestly, if you’re not enjoying clothes right now it’s because the clothes aren’t good enough.

But aren't these jumpsuits just the wrong size OP. How does one or two sizes up fit. Ignore the stated size. Try on a 20...22...24. See how they look on you x

InTheBleakMidsummer · 20/08/2024 08:44

It’s true the OP could have tried one or two sizes up in the jumpsuits - and then had the shoulders or bodices altered to fit. But I’m not sure it would be worth the effort for such thin, limp looking garments. Flimsy fabric, an overly fussy print, depressing colours.

If that’s the best her local shops have to offer, she absolutely needs better sources. And the consequent opportunity to develop an eye for the sort of quality that will make her look wonderful.

This is true. That fabric would look good on very few people of any size
