Help - own wedding in 4 weeks and nothing to wear!

Very last minute - circumstances have rushed things along. Basically, I'm now getting married late September in a small registry office ceremony. Dresses (choice of 3, all currently owned) are either champagne chiffon midi, oyster/pinky midi dress, or white broderie (fifties style) ending just below knee. I'm late forties, larger sized (16-18 on a good day), 5'7 with brown bobbed hair.

I need advice on what to put in hair! No veils, but do I need a headpiece? Have a hatinator like this one in an off-white that can be customised to suit whichever dress, but is it right for the bride!? Panicking a bit....! Please inundate me with your advice and ideas!

I’d go to a hairdresser @JoyceMeadowcroft and ask them to put the pins in.

I don’t think the flower garland things are suitable. Flowers as a bouquet

user1492757084 · 18/08/2024 04:06

Love them all!
Choose gorgeous flower bouquet with soft range of whites and a little green.

Flowers will elevate any of the dresses to bridal status.
Best Wishes.

Whatwouldnanado · 18/08/2024 07:21

The long sleeved one is the nicest, very elegant. As others have said some sort of hair jewellery better and more bridal. Are you coordinating colours with your girls, or having matching flowers? Have a wonderful day.

Businessflake · 18/08/2024 08:36

Love the chiffon dress. The white one is nice, but so many of those around for general day wear at the moment.

ThePoetsWife · 18/08/2024 08:56

Definitely the long sleeved dress - very elegant and suitable for a bride. The others look like day dresses.

Get your nails, make up and hair done and you will look stunning.

Matildahoney · 18/08/2024 09:19

Next have some lovely dresses that they can bridesmaid dresses, but are wedding dress suitable if you're looking for something else.
Lovisa do some lovely hair bits.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 18/08/2024 09:27

All of the dresses are lovely OP.
personally I’d stick with one of those.
practise hair styles and get clip in flowers and jewels, and think about jewellery too.

piccolorhinoceros · 18/08/2024 09:40

Can we see pics of you wearing the dresses OP? I'm baffled by the number of people preferring the Everpretty one, it's the least elegant IMO, but it might be the one that looks best on you. Hard to say just from the models.

I know you say no veils but things like this can be cute. Usually more for hen dos but you did ask for ideas.

broccolibush · 18/08/2024 09:59

Are you completely anti veil? I think a headband with birdcage veil could look stunning with the long sleeved dress that seems to be the favourite on here. Something like this though the colour is probably a bit too ivory. I’m sure Etsy will come up with the right colour with more than 30 seconds of searching.

congratulations by the way!

beetr00 · 18/08/2024 11:13

a headband may be easiest @JoyceMeadowcroft

eta; don't think original url worked!

llamalines · 18/08/2024 12:14

That's lovely!

JoyceMeadowcroft · 18/08/2024 13:35

The headband ones might fly - easier to get them to stay put! Definitely will need proper hair/nails etc.
Will try to get photos of actual self in dress...

Love the long sleeved one!

JoyceMeadowcroft · 18/08/2024 17:19

Tried on these two (the two preferred contenders). With no shapewear etc - I'm definitely preferring the white as look quite belly heavy in the long sleeved!

They are all lovely so it's a question of which suits your figure and colouring best and makes you feel most special. The Debenhams one is my favourite though.

Applesonthelawn · 18/08/2024 17:46

On you I prefer the white too but can you just try the Debenhams one too?

Ineffable23 · 18/08/2024 18:58

I think I prefer the white as well. I would have a bit of a think about the belt though. I'm not sure if it breaks up the line of the dress maybe? Alternatively, if you do want a belt l, I wonder whether if you want a coloured bouquet (or even touches of colour in a mainly white bouquet) if you could coordinate with that?

I am also wondering if it might benefit from some sort of petticoat or similar (others may know better than me) to bring out the fullness of the skirt more?

GettingStuffed · 17/08/2024 22:04

I love the long sleeve one. How about something like this for your hair
https://www.libertyinlove.co.uk/products/cosmos-rose-gold-crystal-pearl-hair-pins-set-of-3

That's beautiful!

urbanbuddha · 18/08/2024 19:13

The white dress is lovely and really suits you. I agree with pp about the belt. Perhaps a wider white belt with a similar buckle, or a silver one?

Manyshelves · 18/08/2024 19:27

Oh.. I love the long sleeve one, you look lovely. The other one is nice but more summer day frock than wedding

Manyshelves · 18/08/2024 19:28

Wear a slip under the long sleeve one, I swear by them. M&S or John Lewis. But it’s lovely

Sunshineandrainbows23 · 18/08/2024 19:35

I vote for the long sleeved dress too ... :)

I hear your reservation, but I actually think it shows off your figure really well ...

ThePoetsWife · 18/08/2024 20:16

I still prefer the long sleeved one - your figure looks great but if it helps get a slip.

The white still screams day wear and the colour is too white for your English colouring
