Nervous about having fillers

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 13/08/2024 11:45

I've never had any type of fillers but I'm feeling fed up as my 'marionette' lines have become really noticeable. I feel they are really aging me. I've tried creams but they haven't worked.

I'm going on holiday on Sunday and have decided to have fillers this afternoon. Am I mad? Will I regret this?
They have said that there may be bruising/swelling for up to 5 days.

If anyone has any experience (good & bad) please share them with me.

My stomach is in knots! 😬

I don't really have advice, not having had filler but I've read for marionette lines you should not have the filler put in the lines themselves but higher in your cheekbones otherwise you start getting a similar look to Courtney Cox when she went a bit too far.

I'm assuming you're happy with the injector and have done all the research so I hope you get a good result. I've been back and forth on tear trough filler for years but I'm too scared! Make sure you tell them you're going away just in case there's any particular advice in terms of flying/swimming. I'm guessing flying may not help with the swelling.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

BlueBlueBerries · 13/08/2024 12:05

Agree, you may need cheek filler to lift the face and smooth the wrinkles that way. Otherwise you could end up with 'pillow face', puffy around the mouth and lip area

Bellamari · 13/08/2024 12:08

I’ve always regretted having anything cosmetic done because it turns out badly. Everything I try to do turns to shit. Then I’m worse off than I was to start with.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 13/08/2024 12:09

Thank you @UpToonGirl &@BlueBlueBerries
I think I will cancel for now and research it a bit more. Just wanted to look better for my holiday & photos. I think I'll leave it for now and look into it when I get home.

Who knows a fortnight away relaxing may take a few years off my face! 🤣

I have been having nose to mouth and marionette lines done for over 5 years, I'm 67 and also have a tiny bit of botox between my eyebrows. I knew I wouldn't look younger but wanted to stop looking sad and cross.

I go every 6 months and made sure I did loads of research and looked at reviews and had a proper consultation before I went.

Its not for everyone and I had very slight bruising which was covered by make up. I'd advise if you go ahead leave it a couple of weeks so any bruising disappears, but as I say I covered mine easily.

I feel they are really aging me

And so what, op?? It's OK to look older.

Summerhillsquare · 13/08/2024 12:44

My lip fillers are great but I did use an actual doctor, I'd be wary of people without clinical qualifications.

something2say · 13/08/2024 12:57

Sorry, I know it's none of my business but I'm glad you cancelled as face work looks awful. It is obvious and telltale, it looks awful and the woman looks worse, never better. I'm about to turn 50 in 4 weeks and will never do facial plastic surgery because we have all seen how fake it looks, remember the Friends reunion??? I was shocked. I'm so glad you cancelled xxxx have a lovely holiday

TheLeadbetterLife · 13/08/2024 12:58

Maybe give facial workouts a try, OP? I use Eva Fraser's book. It does make a difference - not in the way that filler does, but personally I think filler always looks a bit weird, even when done well, that's even setting aside the risks.

I've found that the facial workouts have slightly improved overall tone, but mainly they've improved the way I hold my facial muscles - my smile is stronger and I look brighter and more confident, which looks better in photos. It's a subtle difference, but these things are far more about how you feel than about objective reality.

PreciousMahoney · 13/08/2024 13:19

Well the only difference in me is that my mouth doesn't point down.

Op you are doing the right thing investigating it thoroughly and yes it's not for everyone, some folk you can tell straight away as they either have gone overboard or not gone to a professional, a bit like the Turkey teef look

But by the same token on here everyone has different opinions, and you've asked for experiences both positive and negative. Mine was positive and I personally find it much nicer to give an opinion, positive or negative, without eviscerating others in the process.

Xccccc · 13/08/2024 13:28

Hi Op , it's ok to cancel if you are not absolutely sure you are doing the right thing. Go and do some research and look at actual reviews from people who have had it done.
I had my first filler this year at the age of 53. I had a small amount of lip filler and filler in my nose to mouth lines. The result is subtle but so effective and it has made a difference to how I feel about my self. Several of my friends and colleagues of the same age have done the same and look great. It's not a big deal or procedure and can make a massive difference.

I admit it, I'm vain 🤷‍♀️

I guess it's because people have always told me I don't look my age, now I do & it has affected my self confidence. I know it shouldn't but it has.

Aging is a gift that not everybody is given be grateful, don’t resent it.

Think of your friends and loved one and how you think about they way they look. I’m sure they have all sorts of different features. Freckles, different hair types, lines and wrinkles in different places and so on but when you look at them you don’t think “Gosh I’d really love so and so a little bit more if they only got some filler in this place or Botox there”

LiterallyOnFire · 13/08/2024 15:16

I have the odd bit of baby Botox but no way would I touch filler.

The idea it can be dissolved has been thoroughly debunked. It stays in your face forever and it builds up with each top up. Have a Google.

Sleepersausage · 13/08/2024 15:20

Try face massage/face yoga, there's accounts on Instagram with instructions and guides. You have to be consistent but I've been doing it for.a year now and have noticed massive changes

berriesvie · 13/08/2024 15:22

By all means take the time to research, but done subtly they can make a real difference and lift the face. Don't be put off by 'growing old 'gracefully' (whatever that means!) attitudes.

I haven't had them done but know of plenty who have. A pp is correct when they say that they usually put a few dots of filler in the cheekbone area first, to lift. Then they might put a tiny amount in the marionette or nasolabial areas, if needed. It depends on the injecting method as to whether you might have some bruising.

ParisinFrance · 13/08/2024 15:25

I found it very expensive and the effect was so subtle it barely noticed. The procedure itself was very unpleasant. Also I bruised very badly and my face was sore for days.

berriesvie · 13/08/2024 15:26

Interesting link! Tear trough is one filler I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Unfortunately it's the thing I really "needed", but not after seeing the MRIs from various researchers <shudder>

thenightsky · 13/08/2024 15:33

Just check you'd be comfortable with cheek fillers. The aesthetic lady I went to refused me fillers when I told her I have treatment for a bad neck and shoulders with a chiropractor, which involves laying on my front with my face on 2 firm pillows at cheek level.

She also said no to tear troughs because I apparently have no 'troughs' to put filler in. My dark bags are just dark skin, fixed with a good concealer.

If it is only a little filler in naso labial and marionette lines you won’t get pillow face. That’s for people who have excessive filler.A little makes a big difference. If you have filler in your cheeks you might end up like the lady in the Febreze advert!
If you are on blood thinners, seek advice about whether they should be paused before treatment, as you could bruise badly. Afterwards, arnica cream helps to lessen bruising as does ice.

Exactly, ageing and looking older is a normal and positive process. No need to try to look younger.

Cozylozy · 14/08/2024 07:25

Facial exercises, check out current body for anti aging devices too. People with work 99% of the time look like people who have had work, not younger

Moonshine5 · 14/08/2024 07:28

OP, fillers do not make you look younger. You will have fewer lines that's all.
