Also bani, I've not forgotten about the sludgy fairisle. I'm on my way back from holiday (so called, went a bit tits up but never mind). Give me a day or two to recover and I'll post something.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 28/09/2024 22:29

I shouldn't be spending but this will be the last year or second last year I will earn my current salary so I bought this today.
CFCL Red dress

The assistant asked if I had anything special in mind. I'll wear it to the office. If other people can give up suits and ties and wear jeans and trainers I can wear this.
I tried this on
CFCL
It was fabulous but didn't buy it.

Local shop didn't have this one, but this is wonderful too

Le Kilt is rather splendid.

That is beautiful.

botemp · 30/09/2024 13:21

I did not know Le Kilt was working with Dior, I remember flagging them up on here when they were still an unknown entity. Poppy did you ever end up getting a kilt made with that other kilt maker (forgotten their name) who used vintage fabrics to make them?

IME venues don't really get their ass into gear until very close to the date, Tatare. That stress is only avoided by engaging an event manager or letting a micromanaging friend/family member loose on them (the latter is bit of a high risk strategy though).

I've been catching up with the shows. Alexander McQueen was another dud, they seemed to have engaged the tailors again and let them do their job but it seems like they supplied them with the wrong material, too fluid so the sleeves are a bit wishy washy, as was a tailored skirt. But that was the least of it, it just screamed desperation and failed to land for me.

Weirdly enough the Ann Demeulemeester show gave the impression they were working from the same mood boards as McQ and did a better job of it. didn't love it but I didn't hate it either and considering the flux the brand has been in the last few years I'm happy enough with that.

I'm absolutely in love with the trousers at Loewe though, not captured well in 2D but they're glorious on video, not a huge fan of the visible label but I'd probably wear it with that bit covered. Can't really tell the material though, looks like leather in some pics, wool in other, maybe it's several types. Leather is probably going to be frighteningly expensive but wool might be doable 🤞

Sacai is showing this afternoon so I'm looking forward to that. What else, Valentino now under Michele... hmmm... It's just Gucci by Michele Confused

I was just thinking about those special kilts - must dig out the details. But the Le Kilt ones are rather gorgeous. Years ago I had a navy kilt that was so lovely and swingy that I do fancy another one. But OTOH I rarely wear skirts these days, except on hot summer days. So I would not get much wear out of even the most special kilt.

botemp · 30/09/2024 20:27

What's stopping you from wearing skirts in winter, Poppy? With the amount of rain lately I've had to cool my newfound love affair with my pillar skirt but I'm assuming when it's dry and cold it should be good skirt weather again.

I think this was the specialist kilt maker, Acme Atelier.

No @botemp I've always been my own event manager

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 01/10/2024 13:34

That's the place Bo thanks. They are showing even more gorgeous kilts than before.

The issue is mostly the wrong sorts of skirts and footwear to go with, Bo. I can only wear lace-up boots these days thanks to horrid bone spurs, and i haven't been able to find any heeled lace up boots. However I recently bought a lovely dark brown corduroy full skirt that will look good with flat lace up boots, so I will wear that a fair bit I think.

Tatare · 01/10/2024 15:33

That's the thing @botemp, I nearly let myself loose on them. Or my sister. You don't want to meet her down a dark alley...

Tatare · 01/10/2024 15:39

I stepped back though, I've done tonnes of event management and I recognise a tosser in my sphere...

Best thing is allow them to think they're doing right (whilst being very aware of the T&Cs) . Bring it up after.

Because chippy twats are liable to cancel if you rub them up the wrong way.

Tatare · 01/10/2024 15:41

And it's too late to cancel!

botemp · 01/10/2024 17:02

Ah, so you're the high risk strategy Tatare Wink It does sound a bit like it's all a bit amateur over on their end. That despite it being a major income stream for them they treat it like inviting friends over for a shooting party and all that's required of them is serving some overcooked food and their entertaining company.

Hope you don't stress too much and can still enjoy the actual party. IME the ones that are planned to within an inch of its life and go off without a hitch tend to be rather boring affairs, sometimes a bit of a chaos is a good thing. Emphasis on 'a bit' though.

Poppy, I should have known it was down to footwear, I've faced that issue too. I saw some nice laced heeled boots somewhere recently, not sure where, possibly a French brand. Ankle boots though, is it knee high that you'd like?

OP posts:
Tatare · 01/10/2024 18:05

Yes! @botemp, I'm not stressed, slightly irritated.

My caterers are excellent, I think we'll be fine.

And if they annoy me? I will unleash my sister.

Nobody wants that. She's already tracked them down and she's friends with the best barristers.

You do not want to be agin her...

botemp · 03/10/2024 13:03

<Takes note not to go seeking out Tatare's DSis in dark alleys>

Heidi Slimane has now officially exited Celine. His replacement is a bit like the Chloé appointement, someone who worked there previously. Ten years under Phoebe Philo (who had another drop yesterday, prices seem to be going down or I'm getting used to them 🧐) so I'll be curious what kind of Celine version he'll be presenting/continuing.

Still some noise about Hedi Slimane going to Chanel but I'm still not convinced, but it wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong. On the Chanel tangent, the Sacai show very much looked like an open application to be the next CD at Chanel. Aside from the clothes having a lot of Chanel by Lagerfeld codes in them, the hair and makeup was also very reminiscent of Chanel. Not my favourite collection of hers but it will definitely appeal.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 03/10/2024 18:20

Thanks Bo. I would prefer long heeled boots. Getting lace ups, will be tricky I suspect.

I also thought the Chanel show was just a replay of Karl's Best Moments.

Floisme · 06/10/2024 12:00

Sorry for the delay, here's some sludgy fair Isle for bani and anyone else interested.

It's Eribe and you may wonder why I chose it when there are so many beautiful colours around (especially Harley of Scotland). But I didn't want jaunty and vibrant, I wanted brooding and moody, like the Scottish landscape.

Looking at the Eribe website (I got it in a real shop) it looks like menswear although it must have been made with a very daintily built man in mind. But the prices don't match either so maybe it's old stock.

Anyways I've spent the last 2 autumns hankering for Scottish fair Isle, trying to find it second hand (nope) then stalking it into the sales only to find the price didn't come down that much plus by then there's be other demands on my cash. So this time around I decided to grasp the nettle early.

I've worn it a few times already, with one of my tweed jackets, for that Duke of Windsor look - not someone I ever anticipated as a style role model but you have to follow your heart.

Floisme · 06/10/2024 12:03

Also sorry - so many posts I meant to comment on these last couple of weeks but didn't manage it. And now I've forgotten what I was going to say, except for those dresses Castle posted which are so lovely, especially the red one, that I'd come out of retirement (if only for a day) if it meant I could wear it to the office.

ToEllewithIt · 06/10/2024 21:45

Not the Sunday Times here again... www.thetimes.com/article/2523514b-39d9-4501-9c81-3b1126ba7464?shareToken=51f3ed06a950f7205ffa53b25bb099ee

We had a kilt as part of our school uniform and I've never quite been able to get past that. The number of pleats gives you an idea of the quality. It's what generates the swish, but quality kilts are very heavy.

Off to look at the Sacai show. There's a cream tweed top on my wishlist from last season that I was hoping would show up on sale somewhere.

Redandblue11 · 06/10/2024 21:52

I have been trying to make the kilt work, not quite there yet but I am determined.

on the fashion front, I have found an absolute steal of a leather cream coat, in super soft buttery leather. I will try to remember and take a photo.
oh, I found it on a charity shop in a very posh town in Buckinghamshire.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 07/10/2024 16:36

Gosh red that sounds lovely! Will you wear it with your bargain leather skirt?

Flo I love your Duke of Windsor fairisle colours. When I was 15 I had a Shetland jumper that smelled gorgeously woolly, in that soft green, and I loved it so much I wore it until there were holes in the elbows.

I was in Winchester meeting an old friend on Saturday and she introduced me to a shop called The Hambledon that sells almost nothing that I would not wear. I've never been anywhere quite so in tune with my taste.

Naturally I got some things that I don't need: some heavy, quite baggy, cream cotton/linen corduroy trousers, a waffle t shirt, and a Japanese navy skirt in cotton/nylon mix. All seem to be very good quality though they weren't that expensive.

Redandblue11 · 07/10/2024 20:28

Off to Google The Hambledon… from the little I know you poppy I am pretty certain I will also like it.

haha, I do seem to have been building a leather wardrobe 🤔
I don’ t think they will go together thought, I am planning to wear the coat this Saturday (weather allowing)

Papyrophile · 07/10/2024 20:35

It's often lovely Red, but a bit spammy.

Floisme · 08/10/2024 08:52

Yes here's another pic of my muse, except I have no plans to get a dog and, on reflection, that jumper is borderline gaudy.

The Hambledon sounds fab, Poppy, I can feel a trip to Winchester coming on.
I miss decent shops so badly. I know they're not coming back and I try to be positive about internet shopping and all the extra choices it gives me and yada yada yada but nothing, for me, beats trying on lovely clothes just for the hell of it.

botemp · 08/10/2024 09:10

Flo are you trying to reignite the rank top wars again 🧐 #ItsAVest

Hmm, I was going to give the Times the benefit of the doubt about stealing from here again, Elle, but they also mentioned grey so perhaps an invoice is in order again. With the kilts I do wonder, when is it a kilt and when does it become a pleated skirt? Are the maxi/midi lengths still a kilt so long as it fastens over? I do like that red maxi length one but pleated skirts don't work all that well for me so I suspect neither will a kilt.

Agree the Chanel show was same old Poppy, I think they may be one of the few high profile fashion houses that could employ AI to just endlessly replicate what came before it. The Hambledon sounds like a great place. I don't share your pessimism Flo, there seems to be a move back to bricks and mortars with old fashioned retail experiences but I do suspect it'll be limited in geography so I suppose your pessimism is warranted in the end.

MyTheresa announced yesterday they're taking over Yoox-Net-A-Porter. I wonder if this means the end of endless discounting (although NAP did just send me a discount but alas the thing I'm holding out a discount for is not at NAP 😶‍🌫️) as the whole luxury e-tailer market seems to be narrowing down to very few players.
