Gorgeous collection, thank you for the link bo. I Need them all, including the crop top.

Papyrophile · 01/11/2024 08:40

Loving the shapes and the fabrics: if I needed something for a really fancy party... the blouson is the most relevant to my life. (I have one similar but more utilitarian, last year's M&S, which is frequently admired. And washable.)

Papyrophile · 01/11/2024 08:41

The link DOESN'T take you to my jacket... sponsored links... clucks disapprovingly.

Floisme · 01/11/2024 09:21

Actually I'll amend my statement as I don't need shoes with a droplet heel so someone else can have them.

I think my favourite is the coat. The shape from the back looks great. But I'd have to keep it on all night as whatever I wore underneath it would be a let down.

Is your jacket brocade @Papyrophile?

ToEllewithIt · 01/11/2024 13:20

As another cold-old-house-dweller tell me more about these new methods... One observation I do have is that our 90s extensions (now replaced thankfully) was always colder that the main house built 100 years prior. Progress is obviously not linear.

I really like that stories jacket. The shapes is very reminiscent of this Dries one. No hood though.... I laughed at having to wear it all night Flo. I feel that way about much o my outerwear. I'm oddly drawn to the earrings too.

I was just replying saying that that coat (which in shape reminds me of those chic 1920s evening coats often trimmed with monkey fur) looks lovely as a two piece with the trousers when I realised that the gold brocade trousers would be a good thing to buy.

Obviously I don't need them, but they would suit me, and they would be useful - I wear too much black at evening functions and they would be fun.

Reader, I've bought some. I'll report back.

botemp · 01/11/2024 14:49

Well with all these cold houses there's really no need for taking off jackets, so, win win 😉

I wish the Other stories bomber was cropped, then it would work well for me as a blazer of sorts indoors. Speaking of cropped jackets, I'm desperately in lust with this one, despite usually being allergic to sequins. The price is putting me off aside from probably not having too many occasions to wear it (but I'm convinced it can be worn casually).

I don't know what it's like in other countries, but as all homes here are sold with energy certificates there tend to be a lot of engineering companies specialised in making assessments and advising what's sensible to improve energy ratings. It's not my area of expertise and since each home is different they're the best to consult IME. Industry does still tend to lean to advising impermeable solutions as the efficiency is higher and the cost is lower and it's not necessarily bad, but risk of major issues are higher if something isn't done right somewhere along the way. It might be worth waiting a few years for permeable solutions to catch up in terms of price/efficiency if you're not in a hurry. The manufacturers of some permeable solutions also are able to give good advice, they'll engage with consumers even if they don't sell to them and can often direct you to reliable people to engage with.

Extensions always tend to be on the colder side as they're single story rooms with usually at least two outer walls, and if they placed any insulation in the 90s it probably had deteriorated with time to the point it was probably as good as useless. You end up with that weird effect you sometimes get with unheated toilet blocks at service stations that seem to be colder inside than out as they're just radiating cold from all surfaces.

I am very jealous but happy that I can dress vicariously through you.

Floisme · 01/11/2024 16:28

Oh Poppy I'm so excited for you! Can't wait to hear your report.

bo I normally like pretty much everything you link so this is puzzling me but I have to say, I'm not quite getting that cropped jacket with the sequinned shoulders. What am I missing?

Papyrophile · 01/11/2024 16:33

Sadly not brocade, but a very fetching rosewood nylon taffeta, Flo.

I gave my US vintage 1970s brocade tux to XingJr a few years ago for a prom, and he's never returned it. Also had the sleeves altered/lengthened so it looks silly on me now.

I love the gold brocade coat and trousers, but I cannot imagine an event in the muddy SW apart from New Year at which I'd wear them. Looking forward to Poppys report.

botemp · 01/11/2024 18:55

I don't know what to tell you, Flo, it has pronounced shoulders and it's cropped, I'm a sucker for jackets like that. I must have been a Matador in a previous life 🤷

Ok I'll trust your excellent judgement, bo, just as long as you wear it with knickerbockers and a cape

Redandblue11 · 01/11/2024 21:16

Awaits impatiently for Poppy to report back!
what did you get? The trousers?

I admit to also enjoy the building chat.

I am curious as to what blouson you got papyrophile , can you do a screenshot for me? Pretty please 🙏

I just bought these bobbies
boots as kind of default winter boot that I needed to replace.

I have lost the instructions for nice links, but this is the current version. Lsst year it came in navy and rosewood.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 02/11/2024 16:53

Hi Red yes I got the gold brocade trousers.

I also recently bought some boots like yours only not such thick soles, so not really a fashion statement, more a hiking boot that I’ll wear at weekends and not actually hike in.

They’re dark brown leather, from Dubarry:

https://dubarry.com/collections/womens-short-boots/products/ladies-boot-mahogany-strokestown

They are so much more comfortable than the tan brogued boots I have had for years and which have never been comfortable but aren’t positively uncomfortable so I have kept on wearing them.

Strokestown Boot - Mahogany

Women's lace-up, leather walking boot made from DryFast-DrySoft™ leather and a waterproof GORE-TEX lining.

Redandblue11 · 03/11/2024 12:26

I like those dubarry poppy, I have similar too but just Clark ones , used to walk the dog typically (when is not properly muddy, for that I have proper walking boots).

Thanks for the link papyrophile.

I am now looking properly at those wonderful jackets and coats links above.

Tatare · 03/11/2024 12:45

And

I've got my wonderful seamstress to make me a tweed trouser suit.

Bum. And I bought the Le Kilt

NO MORE.

Redandblue11 · 03/11/2024 12:50

Very bad.
Very bad indeed as now I do not know how to help myself not to buy a Le Kilt.
can someone suggest something else (kilt related) that makes a smaller hole in my wallet please .

Redandblue11 · 03/11/2024 12:51

Which Le Kilt did you get 😍

Tatare · 03/11/2024 13:02

I want a few more @Redandblue11

But, I'm not buying.

Obviously.

Redandblue11 · 03/11/2024 13:02

That one is fab. Good job my size is not on stock!!

Tatare · 03/11/2024 13:06

@Redandblue11 I love a micro kilt.

I've loved them forever.

Floisme · 04/11/2024 09:43

Great jumper and kilt @Tatare but what I really, really, really want to hear more about is your seamstress and your tweed trouser suit!
