Is there no hope for women over 50?

In an article in todays' Sunday Time style magazine, the writer was saying that Madonna was upping the stakes for women approaching 50. But she was saying that once you hit 50 and hormones disappear that everything goes - legs and arms like crepe paper and face loses all fat. It sounded totally depressing.
I'll be 45 this year and want to think there is some hope for the 50's.
Anyone look grand in their middle years?

'face loses all fat?'
Contemplates double chin...
Not round here it hasn't....

Mercy · 13/04/2008 17:27

I'm turning 45 this year too.

My skin has definitely started to go downhill - a mixture of horrendous spots and wrinkles plus the slightly crepey look.

But I know several women in their 50s and 60s who look fantastic. Actually., even my mum looks better/healthier at nearly 70 than when she was my age.

cariboo · 13/04/2008 17:34

no hope in what sense? Being ANTM? Definitely!

Anna8888 · 13/04/2008 18:50

I'll be 42 this year and have started with horror to notice that my body skin is getting ever so slightly crepey.

I'm not ready for this. Plus my mother, who is 70, hardly has any crepiness at all (her older sister is exceedingly crepey however).

I'm slatherin myself in very expensive body lotion and hoping for the best.

If only I could take back the YEARS of no sun protection.

Oh God, sun protection (or the lack of it).

French women over 60 are all blotchy prunes because they were young and naked and slathered in Ambre Solaire in Saint-Tropez in their thirties....

expatinscotland · 13/04/2008 20:46

bieng in your 50s is better than the alternative.

what a load of tosh!

why don't they ever write articles about men in their 50s and how they are prone to beer bellies and varicose veins?

FrayedKnot · 13/04/2008 20:50

Goodness yes, Expat, a friend showed me some dating sites recently and the blokes 40+ all looked dreadful

southeastastra · 13/04/2008 20:52

the papers all seem to have it in for madonna this week though

zippitippitoes · 13/04/2008 20:54

i am 51 in a few weeks so yep you do look like shite

and the blokes over 40 on dating sites do all look awful

hence me having to take a 31 year old lol

expatinscotland · 13/04/2008 20:54

men get sun damage, too.

and crepey skin, wrinkles, baldness, varicose veins, piles, decreased muscle tone, etc.

but you never hear about that.

i mean, Michael Douglas had a face lift and he still looks like a sprung couch.

expatinscotland · 13/04/2008 20:55

at the same time, south, madonna could benefit from closing her damn legs.

it's not an attractive site no matter what her age.

southeastastra · 13/04/2008 20:55

i watched the girls of the playboy mansion yesterday hugh looks about 65

expatinscotland · 13/04/2008 20:56

bet his dick is all of 80-something, though, south.

turquoise · 13/04/2008 20:56

As a general rule though, men age much better, it's infuriating. I noticed even Andrew Lloyd Webber is looking more attractive now than he did 20 years ago - though on reflection, he could hardly have got worse.

I'm 44 this year, and definitely noticed in the last year everything plummeting south. Not crepey yet though, thank god.

zippitippitoes · 13/04/2008 20:57

i actually look a lot better now than i did 5 years ago

zippitippitoes · 13/04/2008 20:57

i look better than i did 18 months ago

southeastastra · 13/04/2008 20:58

his bank account more than makes up for that

twiggy looks good and she's about 60 isn't she and sharon osbourne

Anna8888 · 13/04/2008 20:58

That's because you're getting laid good and often, Zippi

expatinscotland · 13/04/2008 20:58

'men age much better, it's infuriating. '

no, they don't. if they've not taken care of themselves, they look just as rough as a woman who hasn't.

and plenty of them have cosmetic surgery.

fishie · 13/04/2008 20:58

and man boobs are so very bad.

i have two friends in mid 50s who are really attractive, but they are both very tiny and thin.

zippitippitoes · 13/04/2008 20:58

sharon osbourne has had everything done not to speak of spending a small fortune

they have people to wipe their bums

noddyholder · 13/04/2008 20:59

there is no emoticon for how this thread makes me feel at 43 can we have a little face with a gun to its head

zippitippitoes · 13/04/2008 20:59

well i had to make a bit of big effort first

turquoise · 13/04/2008 21:00

At least we don't get hair sprouting out of noses and ears (though it seems to be appearing just about everywhere else recently).
