M&S wide leg trousers

Keep seeing things about wide leg trousers are the way forward, ditch skinnies, straight etc, especially over 50. The M&S ones are heavily promoted on here as well.

Ordered a pair of on line, had to wait as they were out of stock. Picked them up today.

I look like I’m wearing a pair of flares from the 70s! They are very unflattering, there’s a lot of material. I don’t know if it’s because I’m tall but they look awful.

Think I’ll go back to straight leg jeans thank you very much. So much for fashion!

I love wide-leg trousers. I think they are really comfy to wear and flattering. I have loads. I was wearing them long before they got trendy.

Me too. I think skinnies and leggings are very unflattering.
I prefer bootcut jeans, they suit boots or trainers.
My wideleg trousers are all quite floaty/drapey which I like. With sandals or trainers.

I am pretty average height and build, reasonably slim. I love wide leg trousers that sit at my natural, slightly low waist. This is the trouser cut that’s been earning me compliments whenever I wear it , which I do whenever it is not completely out of style

Just got a pair of indigo wide leg, high waisted ‘smart’ jeans from M&S and they are sooo flattering on my 10-12 slightly pear shaped body.

I like them (I make my own). I lightweight fabric, they are so cool and comfortable in the summer. If you’re worried about looking dumpy in leg, go for a cropped leg. Seeing a little of the lower leg makes it clear that it’s the pants that are wide, not the wearer's legs.

I respectfully disagree, I think full length pants elongate the leg (especially if high waisted) and cropped can look 'dumpy' if they're any higher than ankle length.

I see what you’re saying. I should have said ‘broad of leg’, rather than dumpy.

I wrote above that I’m a fan and this is the only trousers style that generates compliments for me, but it’s never been wild.

So I, no fashion plate, am visiting a STEM dept in the Boston, Massachusetts area and staying in a nice hotel. I’m on the 3rd day of high waisted wide leg M&S jeans, so they are getting baggy. Yesterday I wore a silk print blouse tucked in, today I have a slightly oversized M&S knit top. Platform sandals, a few years old.

So far a dept secretary, a couple of women PGs, a hotel receptionist and a glam woman at breakfast have stopped me to compliment these outfits. Nothing like this has ever happened before in my life. Wide legs forever!

spikeandbuffy · 02/08/2024 15:31

@poetryandwine oh which ones have you got?

poetryandwine · 02/08/2024 16:03

Hi, @spikeandbuffy

They are in the Autograph line. In looking for them I am currently directed to the US site. A good match comes up in a colour that looks like a very, very pale blue on my phone but is called Light Indigo. Mine are a much darker blue.

Center zip, ordinary Levi’s type pockets front and back. They are well made, and I got lucky with the fit for once.

DGPP · 02/08/2024 16:27

It’s all about the cut. M&S looks rubbish in me but I’ve had success with Reiss. Pricey but hoping they last a long time

poetryandwine · 03/08/2024 04:13

And I would live to be able to wear Reiss, @DGPP, but they gap in funny places

lindyloo57 · 10/01/2025 16:54

I brought the wide leg palazzo jeans from marks, the fit on the waist bum and hips were great , but the legs were much too wide for me so I returned them.
