Help with aging skin

HuongVuong3 · 21/07/2024 12:58

I wondered if any of you have recommendations for creams, supplements, masks etc to help with my aging skin and grey under-eye shadows. I've always had good skin so am finding this change difficult. 😔

I'm 49 and definitely in peri menopause. Bad sleep isn't helping but I'm trying my best to sort this. In addition I'm eating lots of fruit and vegetables, pulses, lots of water etc.

Any advice or suggestions would be very gratefully appreciated!

Micro needling, giving up sugar, La Mer moisturiser and short luke warm showers. I used to love long hot showers but damn they make me look haggard

HuongVuong3 · 21/07/2024 13:12

Thank you @Happyinarcon

Do you do your own micro needling or go to a salon for it?

Retinal not retinol. High vitamin c diet and a supplement of vital proteins collagen powder. Is a very potent start in the anti aging game x

HuongVuong3 · 21/07/2024 13:26

Thank you @BowlOfNoodles

Ordering some of the collagen powder. 🙂

You won't regret that top tier buy it on Holland and barret the big tub cost £45 per month but on subscription you then get it for £25 per month delivered! It takes 3-6 months to see results but I'll tell you what I didn't realise how well it worked intill I stopped lol! I looked 5 years older lol I'll be sticking with it this time! Beauty of josen retinal eye cream is the best eye product I've ever used and you name it I've tried it! Retinal works x11 faster than retinol and at £15 for 30mls budget af! I use it all over my face and it's good shit!

Aria999 · 21/07/2024 22:31

I can actually see a difference with collagen powder after a few days. It looks like I've slept better!

Lampzade · 21/07/2024 22:33

Definitely collagen. Also vitamin C supplements.

StormingNorman · 21/07/2024 23:12

Vitamin C skincare and an LED mask from Dr Denis Gross. It will make you glow again!

Takenoprisoner · 21/07/2024 23:56

Facial massage with a good oil. I've been using the Q and A supergreens one. I use a YouTube video to massage along to. Leaves my face velvety soft, rosy with glowiness.

One product that made a huge difference to my skin is the Ordinary Aha bha peel which is a red liquid. Completely changed my skin and was recommended on here.

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 22/07/2024 00:06

Lots of facial oils. I swear by Pai rosehip oil and Clarins blue orchid oil. I even cleanse with cleansing oil. My skin loves oils. Ten years ago, or even in my mid- 40s, this wasn't the case. By my late 40s, that changed. I would definitely say that as you get into your late 40s, early 50s, don't be oil shy.

And I know, I know, people say 'it's not got enough collagen, blah blah blah,' but I am 52 now and whenever I do a 3 month stint of taking Imedeen collagen shots daily (expensive but cheaper than botox), damn, the results are undeniable!! Whenever I take these collagen shots, within 10 days, I'm like a human glo-stick. Deep lines are definitely reduced. I've tried other collagen supplements but there's something about the imedeen collagen shots that just work magic on me.

HuongVuong3 · 22/07/2024 06:32

Thank you all for your suggestions, lots for me to try!

Where do you get these magic shots from please ?

RockAndRollerskate · 22/07/2024 06:50

Tretinoin. You can get it from skin & me or dermatica - look up some before and after photos. Takes a while to notice, but after a year of use I look so much different !

Yes I use vitamin c in the day and retinal at night.

I don't believe that most products on your skin do much good.
It's what you eat and do that works.

The jury is still out on retinoids with most research showing you'd need a prescription amount (not over the counter stuff) to make any difference.

Cut out sugar as much as possible. It causes inflammation and that destroys collagen.

There is NO evidence that eating collagen (supplements) helps skin. There was a prog on Radio 4 a while back looking at the science. No proof at all that swallowing fish or bovine collagen gets to our skin once it's in your tummy.

Best tip is spf 50 all year round.

Follow and anti inflammatory diet and the 'glow' comes from within.
Exercise so you get oxygen to your skin through improved blood flow.

Dark circles are hereditary and are caused by thin skin. (dermo told me that.)
Best thing is a good concealer.

I can tell you first hand that collagen thickened my hair

I'm a redhead so have used high protection sun cream my whole life and have never sunbathed or tried to get a tan.

The dark circles are only a very recent thing for me which is why I wondered about then being linked to peri menopause. I have a concealer which does cover them but I would rather they weren't there in the first place!

I'm already doing what you recommend in terms of diet and exercise.

But thank you for your comments.

Following on from the comments here plus some other advice, such as products tested by the Good Housekeeping magazine I have ordered collagen powder, some Korean sheet masks, a Clinique eye cream and the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream used by the Queen and Princess Diana.

I'm also looking into the oils mentioned above.

I would love La Mer cream but sadly my budget doesn't really stretch that far. When I win the £1m premium bonds prize it will be the first thing I buy!

😁😁😁

If nothing else I will enjoy the pampering!!

Dermatica prescribe from your photos and update the prescription regularly, increasing the strength of retinols as apprpriate. It has saved me a fortune on trial and error, buying other products.

My skin sheds much quicker, it has cleared my pores and I look brighter and healthier. The bonus is I spend very little on cleansers and moisturiser, just basic products.

Usually offers available. www.dermatica.co.uk/referrer/QQRPG

Firstly subscribe to Mad about skin on utube it's free he reviews and describes so many fantastic Korean products in simple but great detail. Justmylook is the cheapest place to get products that I've found. Honestly open watch he's video of the beauty of joseon he recommended the retinal eye cream f-ing fantastic! Korean skincare is divine I started using it during lockdown the snail mucin range from cosrx and I've never even looked elsewhere my skins better now than 10 years ago in terms of glow/bounce

Hopebridge · 22/07/2024 17:09

Which retinal face cream would you recommend? Thank you.
