Evening all! Thanks to Tracy Beaker for the new title!
Roll on some bling and style, though it may be a while!

That's interesting, @RomainingToBeSeen . I know that the late Duchess had some amazing clothes. The current Chatelaine, her granddaughter in law, was a fashion editor, so I'm glad she's doing this.

Me, me, I'm a fan! I think there's only one more, heh. And a couple who love one or two particular dresses.

Thanks for the link!

chesterelly1 · 27/08/2024 10:16

Thank you Tarragon, I feel like I should've worked that out for myself!
Like what I can see of Catherine's outfit for Crathie. Very appropriate without going into shortbread tin territory. Rather like that they seem to have dialled back on the North of the Border must wear tartan vibe. With the exception of the King, but he always looks so delighted to be wearing the kilt I can let him off with it.

Maireas · 27/08/2024 10:21

@chesterelly1 "shortbread territory"!
My late Mother was Scottish and used to hate this! She's always comment negatively about the RF visiting Scotland and dressing like that! It used to rile her no end.

Charles loved his grandmother so dearly and of course she was Scottish so I suppose for him it's very personal. I think it's nice to see him so delighted to wear his kilt. But I'm glad Kate has toned it down somewhat on the literal dressing - the subtler the better IMO.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 27/08/2024 11:48

It's now been confirmed that Victoria, Daniel, Carl Philip and Sofia will attend the Norwegian wedding.

The Danish Royal spokesperson has only said that there will not be any official representation. However that doesn't mean Fred and Mary won't attend in a private capacity.

Oh no I love it! Grin

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 27/08/2024 12:18

I don't hate it, don't get me wrong! I think it's quite endearing, really.

But I prefer subtlety.

banivani · 27/08/2024 12:38

Well @ArdMhaca, @KillingMeDeftIy and @Maireas (did I miss anyone?) I skulked off there after feeling a little told off but I'll skulk back on a bit then so.Grin I have no intention of dwelling of gossipy details but the handling of it will involve "messages through clothes" which will be interesting too. I distinctly remember Mette-Marit wearing something light (white?) when she had to face the press and basically apologise for being a single mother when she got together with CPH. Have I imagined this happening - googled briefly but found no photos, but it was a long time ago. Saw a photo today of CPH implying that he was facing the press somehow making a statement (I say implying because it could have been an old photo, can't find the article now) - he was wearing a somber, navy suit.

Together with all the emotions around Märta-Louise's wedding it is certainly a tumultous time! Very interested to see in what way they will use image and fashion to show united front and portray stability. Certainly shows how difficult it is for modern royalty when they, in lieu of actual power, opt for soft power through modelling "perfect families" to provide that stable national core. Has certainly been very difficult for the UK royal family.

Maireas · 27/08/2024 12:40

Afternoon, @banivani - I'm sorry you felt told off, I can't remember what happened, but hopefully it's in the past and I'm glad to see you back!
Good points about perfect families and soft power 👍

I seem to remember reading that William is not a fan of the kilt.

I would bet quite a lot that Catherine is wearing a tartan frock under her coat!

Maireas · 27/08/2024 12:46

Yes, but Charles embraces it warmly!

@banivani im so sorry you felt told off and if you knew how much I want to know all the details about the Norwegian royals 😂 . Marta Louise and Shaman D nuptials are my FA Cup final…

Ah it wasn't serious but I didn't want to be all Not In The Spirit if the threads had become very anti-gossip or rather firmly pro-positive news. So I took myself off but then noticed notifications ;)

The wedding is going to be quite interesting, it's big politics this is really. Very commercial. Apparently nothing was noted in the diaries of the Swedish royals, but the days were just sort of "blocked out".

SqueakyDinosaur · 27/08/2024 14:12

Well, Charles went to Gordonstoun and AFAIK it was kilts all day, every day, certainly when he was there. So it probably feels natural to him in a way that it doesn't to William.

I went to a very posh Scottish birthday party a couple of months ago (as in, the birthday boy's father had sold off the family estate a few years before, so he just borrowed a castle from one of his friends and held it there...) and there were a LOT of kilts on display. Interestingly the castle-owner had compromised with a pair of tartan trousers, despite being a full-time Posh Scot. Mind you, a kilt apparently costs upwards of £1,500 these days, so maybe he was focusing on restoring the crumbling plasterwork instead.

gingercat02 · 27/08/2024 14:38

DH is Scottish, a kilt is perfectly normal formal wear in Scotland, weddings, balls, ceilidhs etc. Or at the football or rugby with an appropriate top.

However, he is very again non Scots wearing one, even with Scottish heritage (that may just be him!)

One of my best friends' dad wore tartan trews to her wedding as he refused to wear a kilt. She was horrified!

I bought DH his in lieu of an engagement ring 💍

Max and Willem on an engagement.
Her outfit is as always unusual, with the same material used to make a scarf and beret. Nice colour though.

Not keen on Max's outfit, especially the headpiece.

As an aside, she looks very tanned at the moment. I'm always so surprised that there are still people who embrace a tan. Seems crackers to me, now that we know the risks of sun damage.

Maireas · 27/08/2024 20:04

It's unusual, I quite like it, though. I wonder what stone those earrings are? Not a flattering close up, though - it looks like she has a goitre ☹️

smilesy · 27/08/2024 20:31

Hmm. I’m not keen either. I think it looks a bit like a home dyed net curtain, especially with the scarf bit. And the head piece looks like it’s falling off 😆

The Mail just refers to them as pearlescent blue earrings, and describes her, as it does every female royal, as effortlessly elegant.
Unusually for the Mail this time they’ve waxed lyrical about Willem’s rugged good looks, singling out for mention his beard and floppy hair. 😂

Maireas · 27/08/2024 20:42

Blimey. Wax looks like a lovely cheerful chappie, but Brad Pitt he ain't.

deeahgwitch · 27/08/2024 21:17

That looks like quite a lump on Max's left shoulder. I hope it's not a painful bite.

I presume Max tans very easily unlike me sadly, with my fair skin. @MotherofPearl

Lunde · 27/08/2024 21:37

Hmm not sure about Max's outfit - it's a bit "the ghost of Miss Havisham"
