I haven't bought from Zara for years

is is it true to size or small sized?

im either a small or a medium but just wondered what others' experience is?

im a size 10

It's one of the few brands that I find smaller.

I usually wear a 6-8. I'm 5 foot 3 and 48kg. Had a couple of things in a size Small from Zara that were slightly too small for me.

dammit88 · 14/07/2024 08:51

I find it quite variable so perhaps depends on the cut. Im a similar size to the poster above and have had similar experiences - but also had some things that were the other way. It's trial and error unfortunately but they seem fine with returns.

anon2022anon · 14/07/2024 09:36

With Zara it's anyone's guess. As a 14 I can wear a medium, large, x- large or nothing will fit.
Is there a particular item you want?
If you click on to add a size to your basket, on some items it says 'This item has a smaller/ larger fit than usual', which helps a little.
From working there, our very general guide was head for a medium as a 10. But this changed between items so often

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 14/07/2024 09:38

Agree with the above. I find with Zara it's less about the size and more about the particular item. Eg, a medium doesn't feel consistent across all their stock. I could be a small, medium, large or extra large depending on the item!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/07/2024 09:53

I find it true to size but it depends on what you're comparing it to. Most shops vanity size these days. It can be inconsistent though but generally as a 14 I'm a L in trousers, S or M in tops or dresses and XL in jackets. Due to being an apple shape with broad shoulders and boobs this discrepancy in size is normal for me in other shops too. If you're buying online it will tell you if the item has a smaller or larger fit than usual where you select size.

ichundich · 14/07/2024 10:01

IME it comes up small.

CarolynKnappShappeyShipwright · 14/07/2024 10:05

I find it quite generous, but I think the main thing about Zara is that it’s designed for a certain body type more common in Spain, and if you’re closer to that shape everything fits well, but the more the difference, the more discrepancies you’ll find. Online they point out of an item fits larger or smaller

Misthios · 14/07/2024 10:14

In my experience it's all over the place. I am a size 12-14, I have Zara things in my wardrobe ranging from S to XL. Always try before you buy.

Same!

WiseBiscuit · 14/07/2024 10:32

I’m a short 12-14 and it is the only shop I have never bought anything from. Absolutely none of it fits me. I have homeware but absolutely no clothing sadly! It’s a brand I completely avoid on vinted.

I think it’s very difficult to buy from without trying on and as we live 40 miles from a shop I don’t.

TheOGCCL · 14/07/2024 10:35

I think it's on the smaller side. I don't shop there much as the sizing is exhausting but I'm a 10 and have two cardigans, one a Medium and one a Large (both bought in store).

BuntyCollocks · 14/07/2024 10:42

I’m 5’8 size 6-8 and fit a xs-s. Generally a 6 or xs in their bottoms and tops, a s in non stretchy dresses or skirts.

LittleLittleRex · 14/07/2024 11:01

A lot of their clothes are designed to be baggy just now which throws people out. They tend to be smallish if worn correctly but they adjust a bit for the UK market. Also, the labels in Europe tend to say:

"EU L, UK M, US S"

To account for how big people are in the different countries.

So there can be confusion in the UK if the label doesn't specify.

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 14/07/2024 11:40

I always find it comes up small. As a 14 I'd fit a large to x-large but it's never guaranteed.

bittertwisted · 14/07/2024 11:42

Variable I find. I'm 5'2 and an 8 generally
I go from an XS to a S

Sometimes medium if fitted top as I'm busty

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 14/07/2024 11:52

It's very variable. You really need to try before you buy.

bittertwisted · 14/07/2024 11:56

When it says online that it fits large or small that does tend to be accurate

BobbyBiscuits · 14/07/2024 11:58

I wear a small in most of Zara, I'm usually a size 8. I'd say if your a 10, then go for medium?

cannaethink · 14/07/2024 12:02

I’m a 10, 5’8 and wear mostly S, occasionally M. Or a 10 if it’s sized by numbers. So to me it’s pretty true to size.

yarnwitch · 14/07/2024 12:02

I think it's Zara that has shapes on their labels which are codes for if an item comes up small, large or true to size.

crostini · 14/07/2024 12:10

Im a size 8-10 (but also quite short) and S is fine for me... even have a couple things in xs. No mediumship

MooonDreamer · 14/07/2024 12:11

Thanks everyone

I was looking at a blazer (thinking small) and a shacket which said sizes smaller than usual so Medium

then liked some trousers and had no idea about sizing!

whirlyhead · 14/07/2024 12:16

How odd, I’m a size 10 and busty but usually find a small fits fine. I find their sizing in the larger side. I live in Spain though so maybe they size it differently here.

deeahgwitch · 14/07/2024 16:51

In June 2022 I saw an article relating to Zara sizing that had come originally from Tik Tok.
Because it was 2 years ago I'm not sure how valid it is now -
If the label on the inside collar has a :
Triangle it means it runs small
Circle it means it runs big
Square means it's true to size.

I haven't checked this out myself and I don't even know if they still have the shapes on the inside label.

MadKittenWoman · 14/07/2024 17:40

Zara's sizing is notoriously bonkers. I have everything from xs to xl. Sizing comes up very small and they don't seem to understand that women have breasts. Everything is designed for straight up-and-down, flat chested, tall people. Necklines are either too high or too skimpy for anything but a flat-chested A cup. I'm 146 cm, 50 kg and a 30G, so I can occasionally fit into their children's' clothes as long as the tops are wide enough.
