Cycle shorts under dresses

Hello there. Please can you recommend some good cycle shorts to wear under dresses? I would like them to smooth me out a bit but I don’t want anything too restrictive as will be wearing them in Egypt in August and will be hot. Thank you

Do have a pair of the lace M&S that are pretty and don't ride up your thighs (being slightly longer) but they don't offer much compression.

I don’t need much. Just something to go over my ‘pouch’ 🤣. Didn’t know what else to call it but the bit where my c section scar is.

The idea of adding extra layers in hot egypt seems slighty ridiculous actually, no offence.

I agree. You will be too hot OP. You'll need long, loose clothing in a very hot country like that. I'm not sure about modesty expectations in tourist areas.

I think you have the wrong end of the stick. I’m going to sharm el sheikh. I have long stretchy dresses for the evening and some floaty stuff for the day and also knee shorts and t shirts. I don’t imagine I’ll be in a tourist area for more than one trip if that. I’ve been before so I get it. Thank you

Thank you. Some of the reviews say they roll up. Did you have this problem?

No I didn't have a problem with them rolling up at all.

So I'm wrong that it's hot there?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/07/2024 14:54

No you’re not and I never said that at all.

No you are wrong that the OP will struggle with under shorts.

I always wear under shorts even when the temperature is really hot, the right fabric makes me more comfortable.

Op is wanting them in the evenings under floaty dresses, she will be fine.

Sorry, I know I am horribly out of date but when did it become necessary to wear shorts under dresses?

I don't understand.

For me it’s because I have chunky thighs and they can rub together if it’s hot - not for modesty reasons as I wear calf length dresses mainly. They aren’t shorts as such, more like long knickers, not something you (or I at least) would wear as actual clothes with just a tee on top.

It didn't, some people just like to wear them. I wear them as I feel particularly on clingier dresses, it gives some a better silhouette. I have a pair of Nike Combat shorts from my MMA training days and they are great, they don't roll and are compression shorts so hold my tummy flab in.

MeAgainAndAgain · 11/07/2024 16:12

Do you wear them as well as pants? Or are they pants?

MeAgainAndAgain · 11/07/2024 16:16

For those querying them, I have some pants a bit shorter than the ones linked to, and you definitely feel the difference on your inner thigh when wearing them. People who spend most of the year wearing jeans (ie a huge amount of women) forget that actually when inner thighs rub together it’s incredibly sore and can draw blood.

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/07/2024 16:16

I just buy the cheapest 100% cotton cycling style shorts from places like Yours, Peacocks or supermarkets. The thought of squeezing into man-made fibres with my menopausal body gives me the heeby jeebies.

Feckingflagseverywhere · 11/07/2024 16:19

Not the point of the thread but Egypt in August, you won’t want to wear anything because the heat is intolerable.

TooOldToBePregnant · 11/07/2024 16:19

I wear Nike Pros as I’m a teenager at heart 😂. They feel like you’re wearing nothing. For those asking, I wear them because I like short dresses, dancing and not flashing people 😂.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/07/2024 16:31

I do have a pretty considerable ‘thigh gap’ after losing 3 stone but I just think they’re more comfortable plus I have a few clingy dresses which would feel better.
And yes I’m well aware of the temperature in August in Egypt thank you!

Not the point of the thread no but thanks for letting me know as I wasn’t aware of how hot it is in the height of summer in Africa 🙄

Now holding in tummy flab is something I could use. Thanks.

mummybeau · 11/07/2024 16:58

I recommend new look cycle shorts! I prefer them over any other I've bought.

mitogoshi · 11/07/2024 17:24

@DoraSpenlow

Otherwise I get chafing on my thighs plus flashing my knickers isn't a great look at my age but I like short dresses. I don't find sports shirts make me warmer and they hold my belly in
