I don't even know where to look

I don't want to pay a lot

but not jjb or the like , they won't have a clue
where are you?

good shop in teddington

Cappuccino · 10/04/2008 20:50

no a proper one if you have one; a proper sports one

mind you they are pricey

but I found once I had bought them it made me run

I could tell you where I got mine but it wouldn't be any help because you probably don't live anywhere near; was independent shop

look in yellow pages

Chuffinnora · 10/04/2008 20:50

I bought a black nike running pair for £20 yesterday in a cheapy sports shop called Sport World. They are good, comfy and supportive and have fetching pink tick on the side.
Will try to find them online...

Furball · 10/04/2008 20:51

you need to buy specific running shoes. I'll have a shuft around for you.

Also might be worth asking on the runners thread.

you are very welcome to join us here

A podcast is linked in the first post. now myself and loads of others regularly run 5KM after following the 9 week training programme which is for me a little miracle as I was Miss Unfit.

Furball · 10/04/2008 20:56

have a read here for loads of really helpful info

harpsichordcarrier · 10/04/2008 20:57

yes you see sports world I think I am too scared to go in there
independent shop sounds good
black running shoes what is the word coming too.
I am not a great runner but two of my sisters are big runners, half marathons etc and I am a bit inspired

JackieNo · 10/04/2008 21:00

OP posts:
iwouldgoouttonight · 10/04/2008 21:01

Don't go to big shops like JJB - they're expensive and don't know what they're talking about! For running shoes Asics, Brooks, New Balance, Saucony are good makes. This website is good to get an idea of whats about www.sweatshop.co.uk

But if you can find a specialist running shop near you its much better. They measure your feet properly and put you on a treadmill and film your running style (less embarrassing then it sounds!) and find trainers to suit you - you'll probably need to pay between £50-£80 for good running shoes.

Having said that, I ended up with some questionable pink ones. They are really comfortable and brilliant to run in, but I'm not sure I look ravishing!!

Furball · 10/04/2008 21:02

it says these are good beginner shoes

Chuffinnora · 10/04/2008 21:02

Oh I'm not intimidated by a teenager on minimum wage guarding the door. They didn't give me a second glance (I think they suspected that I was going to pay for my purchase rather than treating them to a run down Queen Street like the regular clientele.)

Now a running shop would definitely intimidate me.

iwouldgoouttonight · 10/04/2008 21:03

It just took me so long to type that everyone else has answered first! That'll teach me to try typing and eating at the same time!

JackieNo · 10/04/2008 21:03

I'm afraid I rejected the very pink ones they brought out - I know it's how they work/fit that's important, but I had to draw the line at bright Barbie pink.

LilyMunster · 10/04/2008 21:07

you need proper fitted running shoes from specific Serious Shop.

i know this as i was directed to do so by a PT. before i fired her for being a PT and making me work, obv.
