How often do you dye your hair?

I'm 34 and have been dyeing my hair to cover grey hair forever! I started going grey around 20! I use to be able to do it every 4 weeks but recently it's like every 2! I don't j own if they've changed the dye or my hair is just going greyer quicker tbh. I use garnier olia frozen brown. Can anybody recommend any good home dyes? I did go to the hairdresser a few times but tbh it came back just as quick!

6 seems to be right for me.
5 is too dark.
7 I sometimes get a ginger effect lol.

Have you tried 7.11, L’Oréal Ultra ash?

I have olive skin and quite dark brown hair. I would love to go lighter like caramel to see if that hides them more but the hairdresser said I've been using permanent hair dye for so so long that it's basically impossible to go lighter. The silver greys will start coming back a few days after dyeing. The hair line and around the ears are the worst. I can't hide them. It just makes me feel so much older then k actually am.

I think this is rubbish. Sorry to repeat myself but I started off at naturally nearly black and have gone slowly lighter and lighter. I only ever do the roots. You can’t really dye over a dye, but it blends in really well. I do get a very few unnoticeable white hairs around the hairline. If you are lighter these won’t show as much. Naturally having 2 different colours in grey hair ( dark and white) makes a hair dye look more natural as you don’t get such a block effect.

I have to do my roots every 2 weeks! And no, I will not 'embrace' my greys anymore than I'd embrace Donald Trump.

Yeah this. ^ No way in hell will I ever 'embrace the grey.'

I also struggle to believe posters who claim they get complimented all the time on their grey hair. I mean, why on earth would people compliment your grey hair? Confused Does anyone ever actually compliment anyone's hair colour? How bizarre.

I always see posters on threads like this claiming that everyone compliments their grey hair. And I do doubt it.

If it is actually happening, they are probably patronising you/just trying to be nice. I doubt if anyone genuinely really loves it, (OR actually wants it like that themselves!)

I compliment people's grey hair sometimes 🤷‍♀️. I'm not grey yet myself, but I do like the colour. I'll likely embrace the grey (not the Donald though) when the time comes. You like what you like and I like what I like, but I wouldn't go around saying "your dyed hair no doubt looks unnatural on your face and anyone who thinks you look nice is lying and patronising you". What an incredibly sad thing to think let alone say

I do mine a very dark black brown. Like you op, mine just shows grey almost immediately, and I need to redo it every 2-3 weeks. I did it last Thursday and it’s almost like I didn’t do it at all. It must be that the dye doesn’t ‘take’ to the white hairs, there’s no way it’s grown that much in a week.

I’m tempted to do like a previous poster and just do the roots with a brush rather that the whole head every time.

@thenewaveragebear1983

I always do just the roots with a brush. If you learn to part it well you will get cover over ALL of the roots.

I can go a few months before the greys become noticeable. I nearly always wear my hair up and it probably helps that they are quite spread out though. I also use a lighter colour than my natural (hair is nearly black) which makes the greys less obvious.

Actually the compliments given to me are for the shiny sliver hair. Other women have said that they wish/ hope theirs goes the same colour.
Older women look aged with dyed, dry hair in an unnatural colour. In my opinion.

@coco111 if it's a matter of days then it's about the dye/developer rather than super speedy growth. Try Majirel with 20vol developer and make sure you apply it generously, covering all your roots.

I agree with you, posters that are saying they can't believe people get complimented on grey hair should check out the colourist Jack Martin, it can be really stunning!
