Super super gentle face wash recommendations?

I've been suffering with really bad skin recently and ran out of my Acnecide cream so decided to buy more along with the face wash. Well after a few uses I've taken an awful reaction to the face wash. My face is on fire, swollen and rough as anything. I've stopped using it and I'm slathering on a really hydrating face cream but I still need something to wash my face. I usually use salicylic acid but there's no chance I'm trying that with my skin as sore as it is.
Does anyone have any recommendations that ideally won't break me out as despite the sore face, my skin has cleared up beautifully spot wise!

That's looks great. Never thought of something aloe vera based.

I think cerave is great.

Normallynumb · 27/06/2024 15:19

Cerave here or there's a similar one by Cetaphil

Cerave hydrating oil cleanser - look around as it's often on offer at around £12. It's honestly so gentle, I've even used it on my toddler after she drew on her face with a marker pen. I tend to use about a 20p size amount and massage over damp skin, then wash off with a clean wet flannel.

I used either CeraVe and Cetaphil a few years back and it broke me out. I can't remember which one it was though but it was the one aimed at oily skin. Maybe the gentle ones will be ok though.

Simple range is good.

ASighWasMadeOfStone · 27/06/2024 17:07

Agree with CeraVe. I have very dry skin and the oil cleanser is brilliant, much gentler than the hydrating cleanser which stung me a bit.

However, sounds like your skin barrier has been damaged by the salicylic and BP so I'd switch to something like La Roche Posay Toleriane range and also add a Cica product like Cicaplast Baume for a few days. That should calm it down.

I wouldn't use a salicylic and a BP together- both are going to really strip your skin of moisture and potentially harm the barrier.

Plump82 · 27/06/2024 18:36

Sorry didn't make it clear but I wasn't using the salicylic face wash along with the Acnecide.
I've got a cream I'm happy to use to repair the skin. I just need something to be able to wash with. I'll give the CeraVe oil a go.

Try Moo goo, it's great: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EFS52XW?ref=nbsbbsswwas-reorder-mobilek00112&amp=&crid=225V7795390LP&amp=&sprefix=moo+goo+wash

I use Avene extremely gentle cleanser

Plump82 · 27/06/2024 20:35

Moogoo sounds interesting!! And I like how it can be used on the body as I do suffer with dry legs. I forgot about Avene, that's a good shout too. Going to look up all these suggestions. I found what I thought was a gentle cleanser in my stash and used it there and it's just aggravated even more so I'll need something quick!

MooGoo is excellent. The whole range is fantastic.

Plump82 · 29/06/2024 09:16

I've went for the MooGoo stuff as I can use that as shower cleanser once my face has cleared up of the allergic reaction. My skin is normally very oily.

I had a bad reaction to Acnecide (I felt like I had really bad sunburn on my face) and a pharmacist recommended Biafine which worked really well. It soothed the irritation almost immediately and didn't break me out.

LadySybilRamekin · 29/06/2024 09:29

Look for something with the same pH as your skin, whatever brand you pick

That's exactly how this felt. So disappointing as my skin is actually the best it's been now in about 10 years!!

Be wary of using anything with essential oils. It's a common myth that natural=better. The balm above contains 10 different essential oils, and while they might be ok for some people, essential oil products won't be recommended by any dermatologist.

indigoemerald · 29/06/2024 13:28

I find the Thayers aloe Vera pH balancing cleanser nice and gentle for my oily skin!l

CheerfulBunny · 29/06/2024 13:34

I've used Johnsons baby shampoo for years as a facial cleanser after someone recommended it for dry eye. It's cheap as chips and I can buy it everywhere. Shifts my waterproof mascara too. Not very glam though!

Apileofballyhoo · 29/06/2024 13:39

Seconding Avene extremely gentle cleanser. My face went bananas a few years ago and I've used that ever since. Even La Roche Posay toleraine was stinging, cerave hydrating was worse. Love my Avene. I rinse it off.

BingoMarieHeeler · 29/06/2024 13:41

I had a massive reaction to ceraVe but am fine with Cetaphil. Annoyingly you just have to try various.

Funnily enough the face washed I used a few days ago that says it's for dry, stressed skin has essential oils on it. Won't be using that again! Hopefully this MooGoo will do the trick.
