I'm confused, dermatica/skin & me

I've decided to give one of these two a go and have gone through the sign up process but, what's confusing me is they don't actually tell you what the ingredients or strength is in the product. Or do they? I'm I reading it wrong?
They both seem much the same, as in Tret, but what strength would I be getting?
I'm used to retinAl.
I primarily want it for lines and wrinkles (I'm 60). Would it actually work?
I'm using Medik 8 crystal at the moment, I "think" I can see an improvement but it could be wishful thinking.
Can anyone guide me on which one I should plump for and have you actually seen an improvement in lines?

I think it tells you on an email as it gets dispatched, it definitely has the description on the side of the bottle when it comes out anyway (dermatica anyway)

keffie12 · 27/06/2024 11:23

You will have the ingredients and % on your profile in your account. I'm with Skin + me and have been using them for about 5 years

If anything, tretnoin is more important than retinol..

Just don't forget you need to use gentle facial products for skin care and always use suncream on top daily. You can't miss the suncream because of the increased sensitivity of your skin

I use the CeraVe range of skin products from Boots BTW, which are reasonably priced and available online.

GettingStuffed · 27/06/2024 12:23

They tailor your prescription so will start you on low doses and gradually increased it if you can tolerate. Slightly younger than you and it definitely works.

@keffie12 thank you. Which spf moisturiser do you use. I've just started to use the Lidl one and it makes my eyes sting.

@Heatherjones1234 I'll keep you posted. I've just signed up for the Skin & Me, waiting to be judged on my uploaded photos to them now 😱

What made you go with Skin & Me rather than Dermatica?

Bignanna · 27/06/2024 15:07

I’m with Dermatica, very similar to Skin and me, but cheaper.
They definitely tell you what the ingredients are, and what strength. They also discuss it with you, and have a consultation with you every few months , when you send in selfies. Ingredients are on the container the tube come in as well. It takes time to see any effects. It does diminish fine lines and even out the skin tone, but don’t expect miracles.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 27/06/2024 15:24

@Heatherjones1234 I watched someone on you tube who was comparing both. In the end it simply came down to the dispenser that skin and me use. Think I'd prefer the exact dosage per day rather than Dermatica where is just seems to be a tube.
I'd also signed up before so went back through my emails and have got a discount for my first order, which bought it down to £3.99.
I suppose it's one of those things that comes down to personal preference really.
The subscription is easily cancelled so can always swap to dermatica if I don't like it.
I must say though that the small amount the Doser delivers a day seems to not be enough. Maybe I'm wrong and it spreads really well. Will see x

@Bignanna interesting. Does the tube last you a month? I'm just wondering on the price difference. Think Skin is £24? What is Dermatica please?

£24.99. I thought Skin and me was £29.99. Yes, although it’s a small tube, it does last the month, you only need a couple of pumps each time. Sometimes it lasts over a month if I give it a rest for a couple of days. If you find you’re not using it all and it builds up, you can ask them to send it every other month. I did that for a while.
Just Googled, and it does say Skin and Me is £29.99 per month.

I use Garnier spf 30 or 50. I also use Garnier Amber Solar over makeup super UV.

This is a protection mist you can use to keep topped up during the day (a UV setting spray type) with or without makeup. It is in a handbag size and really useful. Link below. Its on offer right now

twiddlingthumbs69 · 27/06/2024 15:40

@Bignanna cripes, you're right. Don't know where I got £24 from. Think I'll use this months free trial then swap then

OP posts:
keffie12 · 27/06/2024 15:42

@BigBignanna I used to be with dermatica. I swapped because at the time, Skin + Me was cheaper. Clearly, it's a competition thing with them.

I might take a look at swapping back. I clearly need to keep an eye on price changes with these

Agree. It’s expensive enough as it is. It’s especially galling that Tretinoin isn’t available OTC as it is in other countries where it is vastly cheaper. I wouldn’t recommend getting it online from other countries , as sites can be dodgy, as I’ve experienced myself.

keffie12 · 27/06/2024 21:08

@BigBignanna, I've just looked at what your costings are. I'm only paying £24.99 per month for my skin + me. They must vary prices at different times

AlexandraJJ · 27/06/2024 21:14

I’ve just completed my first month with dermatica 0.05% new bottle came today and almost at the end of the pump bottle. I’ve noticed surface changes already and have a very healthy looking glow.

Puppylucky · 27/06/2024 21:22

I used Skin + Me for.about 4 years from 55 and found a dramatic difference to my face - the Tret glow is real! Although you do need to be very careful about sun exposure - on holiday abroad I would give it a rest .
Now I'm older I have switched to And Begin which is Skin + Me's product for mature skin. It still contains Tret but is more moisturising and suits my skin better. Very happy 😊

Hotgirlwinter · 27/06/2024 21:32

You will get a % prescription, it’ll be on your order, it’ll likely be 0.25 to start then increasing over several months,

BTW the daily portions are tiny but remember you are not placing this anywhere around your eyes, lips / nasal line area.

so consider a couple of small dots along your forehead, couple down the cheek bones, couple on chin and neck. Perhaps watch a video, pretty sure there is a “13 dot” technique. Very important you do not use in the very sensitive areas - I occasionally spread it too far into my thinner areas and they react terribly. You don’t need a lot bc it’s strong and it’s strategically placed!

Hi. I attempted to do the online consultation with Dermatica last night and was underwhelmed with it. I was expecting (based on what it said on their website) to have to upload photos which would be looked at by someone and I'd get a personalised product. In reality I selected anti-aging, got asked a few questions about any allergies and medications and that was it - straight to a page to enter my card details. No pictures, no information about what I was going to be prescribed.

Is that really it or will they do something more personalised after I pay up? I'm perfectly capable of googling 'anti-aging' and selecting a product for myself. If they are not actually going to personalise it to my skin then I can't see the point of paying them.

CollyBobble · 11/07/2024 10:27

I tried this one and skin and me and they were both a load of rubbish.

Tret is prescription only in the UK, so you either needs to get a prescription from somewhere or buy from abroad.

I wasn't keen on Dermatica but love Skin & Me. I have extremely sensitive skin so the main personalisation for me was starting low and building up slowly. Thousands of other people will have the same formula, it's not going to be unique to you.

UmberMoose · 11/07/2024 14:30

I have used dermatica before but now shifted. Here goes my routine:
So here is my routine:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Evening:
La roche posay moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

SinkingFeelingSoph · 11/07/2024 14:32

I’m on my third month of skin and me and I think my skin was better just using the Medik8

I wasn't expecting it to be unique but I did expect them to want to see my skin as the website said they would do this and that a dermatologist would review my 'consultation'. Like you I have sensitive skin (bit nervous about trying to tret to be honest) so maybe I should give Skin and Me a try instead. Dermatica was a bit cheaper per month.
