32E bikini that doesn’t look like a bra

DD wears a 32E but is a size 8 overall. I know that probably means she is a 30F or 28FF but she finds anything tight uncomfortable and as she’s still growing it’s a lot cheaper to buy 32E.

She wants to wear pretty bikinis and I would love to spend £10 at primark rather than £50 at bravissimo. However she really needs more coverage and support than cheap ones provide. She hates bikinis that look like bras with the obvious underwire band. She has a nice fitting one from ASOS that is cup sized. Is there anywhere else that sells pretty cup sized bikinis?

How about this on Miss Mandalay? Getting slightly confused by the different sizes you say your daughter could wear, but there are other options. Appreciate that even in the sale £32 isn't cheap.

Look at the cheap supermarket triangle bikinis. Buy the top in a much larger size for appropriate boob coverage and cut and sew up the string ties to the right length. Buy the bottoms to suit her size. A string bikini never goes out of fashion with a teenager.

CornflakeGirl18 · 25/06/2024 13:02

My DD18 (32H) did manage to get a Primark bikini by opting for a size 20 halter top and size 12 bottoms!
I'm not quite as big as DD but always found Next to have decent cup size bikinis - I usually up the band size for comfort. I was disappointed with the quality from Bravissimo but got a beautiful Pour Moi one this year.

Butterflyfern · 25/06/2024 13:26

I found my last bikini at Next (30e). It's underwired underneath, but the upper fabric makes it look like a bandeau (with detachable straps). In fact I really rate next for bikinis.

She also probably doesn't need mega hoisting support at age 14 anyway. I'd also look at places like m&S and just buy a size 14.(I also do this pre kids. 30e isn't massive). Unless she really likes that feeling of support?

I'm a 32hh and hate wired bikinis, I want to feel relaxed on my hols but still with some support. I've got a few of the crop top styles that have no wiring from this place, they're on ASOS and Vinted too. Wondering if they're maybe a bit grown up for your daughter though.

This might not be what you’re after but Speedo do cropped top style bikini tops. I am 34GG and the size 14 fits me. I wear them for actual swimming though, they aren’t really supportive.

Happilyobtuse · 25/06/2024 20:39

Hi, I am a 36E and have this one. It is absolutely fab, really good support.

Check for the named brands on Vinted especially if she is happy with coordinated rather than matching sets. Lots of tops available that could be worn with plain bottoms.

I also found this Pour Moi bargain, new, may be ok for size and isn't bra like. ( search by user name to find it).

Forgot to mention Fantasie is also great for bigger cup sizes but quite a hefty price tag, though you can check the outlet and can get lucky!

aSpanielintheworks · 25/06/2024 21:59

Watching, as DD is 13 and a 32D - we struggle to get bras that offer more coverage especially since she grew so rapidly she has lots of stretch marks to cover.
We got a nice one from M&S recently but I don't really know where else to look.

WorriedRelative · 25/06/2024 22:01

String triangle bikini with the top in a large size but tied tighter. They are surprisingly supportive if you tie them firmly, and sizing up gets bigger triangles for more coverage.

I was going to suggest New Look. John Leiws might be worth a look too.

I'm not a fan of Bravissimo swimwear, they seem to think everyone wants big pants or hideous patterns and to look like Judith Chalmers.

I wish Bravissimo bikini knickers had more coverage. I'd kill for a two-inch shorts bottom and bra-sized swim top.

I am a 36E and am totally unable to buy a swimsuit that hold my belly and supports my boobs, so I gave up and bought cheap generic (Temu £4 - good enough for a season or 2 and good fit but did take weeks to come)
But to your question - Google "underwired bikini" and you will get the supportive ranges, even if she does not want wired
Even Temu had some lovely ones. I agree that Bravissimo and Pour Moi are good but not so cheap. Boohoo are though. Next had some, but they sell out quickly.
If she is confident enough (or you are good at sewing to put on a strap), there are bandeau styles, but the issue with non-adjustable backs is that she is smaller around under and larger across the bust than average. Or she could go for stretchy (e.g. temu.com/uk/womens-two-piece-bikini-set-high-waisted-abstract-print-adjustable-straps-quick-dry-swimwear-summer-beachwear-g-601099522242089.html or temu.com/uk/solid-color-sexy-2-piece-set-bikini-crew-neck-contrast-mesh-high-waist-swimsuits-womens-swimwear-clothing-g-601099544254460.html
Have a look at Light in the Box - she may find that they are so pretty that she wont mind the adjustable back

popsickle555 · 26/06/2024 10:24

I am the same size as your DD and was also a size 8 back in my teens wearing a 30E. What I used to do was buy a size 8 bottom and a size 14/16 top (triangle style) the ones that had ties not clips and that always worked very well. I admit I probably showed more cleavage than my parents liked but I was able to wear fun styles at least. So look at separates with the tie style tops but in big sizes. I definitely didn't need the support in those days! My DD is 13 and also going to be in this situation soon and I had already thought we would have to go down this route for her.

This sort of thing...

But get an XL in the top. You will have to play around with the top sizes to make sure there's enough coverage but pretty sure I used to go for 14 or 16.

Fink · 26/06/2024 14:27

That's my size too.

I find that a few cheap halter-neck types can be ok if all you want to do is sunbathe and splash around a bit, but I need the bra style if I want to actually swim properly. I appreciate that a teenager won't need as much support as saggy, post-breastfeeding, me, but even when I was younger I did find that I would pop out of tops quite often when swimming. The bra type bikinis are perfect for keeping me comfortable while moving around. If she's really set against it, there may be nothing you can do to persuade her, it's juat a thought.

DataPup · 27/06/2024 14:54

I ordered a couple of bikini tops with tie up backs and halter necks in a larger size and it just didn't work. The width of the triangle bits at the bottom was just too wide compared to my rib cage so they were meeting in the middle and then half way into my armpits.

I'm going to try a few others as I know I managed with just getting a larger size when younger.

Probionic · 27/06/2024 14:59

Just get a larger size top. I’m a 32F and a size 12 bikini top at River Island fits me without any issue. Just obviously choose one with a bit of coverage.

a 32E bosom especially on a perky teenager will not need massive amounts of scaffolding. It’s a fairly normal cup size.

Boux Avenue?

Onelifeonly22 · 27/06/2024 15:04

From experience, the main thing is to choose a bikini top that has adjustable back/straps. Halternecks with thicker straps that tie at neck and back a good option. Amazon also do some swimming costumes that are 30E so may have bikinis too...

I got amazing bottoms from H and M a year ago if you're able to mix and match
