How do I fix my weird shaped arse??

Bumty · 19/06/2024 13:49

Lost a lot of weight (6 stone) and now I have a frog butt, I feel so insecure, will exercise actually help? And which ones.

Any fat I have is at the top of my bum then it just goes in. No shape at all.

Is it possible to change this or is it just genetics.

I have leggings on BTW, just realised it looks odd 🤣

The gym will definitely help. Genetics olay a part in where we store fat etc.

Hip thrusts, Romanian deadlifts, squats will all help.

CJ0374 · 19/06/2024 13:53

Congrats on the weight loss. That is a massive amount.
I'd think that if you are now a healthy weight, toning will have some effect on the muscle structure underneath, but unlikely to shift fatty lumps. I assume the option is lipo to suck out the bump or padded trousers which fill the hollow to make it appear rounder.

Absolutely will not have any cosmetic surgery done!

Sorry OP, didn't see that in your OP. I thought you were asking for options to shift it.

Bumty · 19/06/2024 13:57

Yes through exercise, not surgery x

Thankyou

Pilates will do precisely fuck all.

You need bigger glutes which means you need to build muscle.

Weights is the only way.

My son has a whole weights set up in his room but I would have no idea where to start!

I honestly thought you were bare bum for a second and it made me chuckle Grin

Using heavy weights and targeting your glutes, thighs and hips will give you some shape. If you do it consistently you'll start to see results in about 4 months (you have to eat pretty high protein at the same time though which I found easier said than done).

MaryBethMayfair · 19/06/2024 14:09

Glutes are the biggest muscle in your body, so resistance training will make some difference. Genetics do play a part, though.

On a typical glute day, I'll do the below exercises:

  • Maximus cable kicks (the "standard" kind)
  • Medius cable kicks (more to the side)
(Cable kicks are best at the start or the end of your session)
  • High-foot-placement single leg press (because I hate Bulgarian split squats and these are a decent fill-in)
  • Abductor & adductor machines
  • Roman deadlift. You can do with barbell or dumbell. I prefer a single leg, on bench approach, as I connect with the muscle better that way.
  • Hip extension machine
  • Weighted lunges to finish

Other good options available, (very good options, just not part of my personal plan)
Bulgarian split squats
Squats
Hip thrusts
Various hamstring exercises to help target the minimus region of the glutes

As with all efforts to gain muscle, you need to be eating enough protein to see benefits. Youtube has a wealth of advise & demo videos for exercises, too.

Ive found pilates really good (lost 7st). Weights are def the way to go to build up your muscles but chuck a couple of pilates sessions in as well, Ive found it tones you up in general and kinda 'smooths' things over!!LOL

Clench your buttocks and hold to the count of ten, then release, and keep repeating while you are waiting for the kettle to boil, or the microwave, or a lift if no-one's around. For a bit of variety, clench one buttock in ten quick flashes and then do the other one. Gives a surprising amount of lift if you keep it up.

rewarrrrd · 19/06/2024 15:01

Have a google of Harriet Harper fitness. If you have weights at home, she has home workouts as well as gym workouts

LemonySnickets · 19/06/2024 15:10

I find YouTube is great for workout ideas. Try searching for 'butt lift workout' or 'glute workout' or 'glute workout with weights' if you want to try your son's weights. There's usually tons of options on there!

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 19/06/2024 15:12

Looks like you have no muscle definition. The right Pilates exercises would definitely help with that because Pilates uses the body's own weight to provide resistance (if you are doing the exercise properly, some people just sort of waft their arms and legs about and wonder why it isn't doing anything).
Although weights will give faster more dramatic results. In your position I'd be doing both, the Pilates will help you develop a strong core. Which is handy for whatever other methods you decide to use.

TitInATrance · 19/06/2024 15:12

Amy Stratton 4 minute glute rehab on YouTube . Not instant results but keep at it daily and it does work.

Louise0808 · 19/06/2024 15:12

Well done on the weight loss. That's an impressive amount.
Honestly, this is nothing weight lifting and glute targeting exercises can't help. Meggan grubb on instagram uploads a lot of videos of glute targeting exercises. I find her videos really helpful and easy to follow, especially if the idea of weights is daunting for you.
Remember, genetics do play a part, and we can't all build a huge peachy bum. So don't get down or push yourself too much. Camera angles, lighting, shape wear, and surgery cause unrealistic expectations. Work to your body type. Confidence is a feeling, not an image :). You've got this x

Overtheatlantic · 19/06/2024 15:16

I’ve got the same arse, OP, and tiny feet. 😆 I wear lots of tunics and over shirts.

FeckOffNowLads · 20/06/2024 07:36

@rewarrrrd no. Pilates does work but you have to go twice a week at least, my arse has gone from pancake to apple in a year and it’s all I’ve done. If you find the right instructor you come out feeling it, trust me 🤣

Back21970 · 20/06/2024 09:37

Well done on the weight loss - you must be delighted.

Agree with weight training or for starters even just chair squats would help - Pilates good too for overall toning.

Not sure if a peachy bum would be possible, think that may be genetics as I’ve never had one whatever I do, but definitely improvement if you stick with it.

Keep us posted on your progress x

FastFood · 20/06/2024 10:07

Well done on weight loss.
Honestly OP, I'd just avoid leggings for now, you've achieved great results already, don't aim for perfection and give yourself a break.

There are probably nice jeans / flowy trousers and dresses that can accommodate your bum, maybe along with shape wear.
Find some outfits that make you feel good and please don't fixate on that, you deserve to feel confident!

I never wear leggings, I bought these to try them as I want to start working out 😅

I'm always in flowing wide leg trousers.

I have the exact same problem! I've lost just over 5 stone and mine is looking like this from sitting too much as I work at a desk and general sedentary lifestyle as well as muscle loss through the weight loss.
I have started the gym and include weighted squats and hip thrusts. If I'm sitting for long periods I do glute stretches and do a few squats at my desk (I work from home so no one can see me).
I am seeing a change but my genetic arse shape means I won't have a big peachy butt but it can look better.

It's very heartening to hear you are making a change!

I dint ever expect to have a peach either but just a little more shape would be nice
