The fabulous Ossie Clark evening dress I unearthed in a charity shop in the mid 70’s and stupidly donated back to charity after I had worn it a couple of times.

I often think about it and curse my stupidity.

Back in the early noughties there was a trend of wearing a completely superfluous, wide flat belt, low slung on the hips. Over a gypsy skirt, or your bootcut jeans. That.

It just suited me, I think because I'm so short waisted- it elongated my torso a bit. The high rise years have not been kind.

Hadalifeonce · 16/06/2024 21:52

My yellow leather knee length platform boots.

I've kept my combat skirt. I love it.

musicalfrog · 16/06/2024 21:53

No frigging point, they wouldn't fit me 😤

imnotthatkindofmum · 16/06/2024 21:55

My dark red velvet, low rise bootcut flares.....for my daughter though I'd look horrific!

My niece has the red velvet hot pants my sister and I shared!

I also had a really nice flared jersey dress which I totally would wear now.

Before my time but definitely the headscarves of the 50s and 60s. So overdue a comeback imo

Imagine all the various designs, and they somehow manage to look glam, warm and functional all at the same time.

Ikeameatballs · 16/06/2024 21:57

I had a patchwork denim fitted shirt with mother of pearl press stud buttons on the late nineties. I loved it so much!

puffylovett · 16/06/2024 21:58

Patrick Cox cork wedge platform slides. Bitterly regret ever giving them to charity.

ElizabethVonArnim · 16/06/2024 21:58

Does this magical Time Machine also expand clothes to fit our current selves? If so, my wine velvet evening trouser suit from Next from 1998. Bloody magnificent. Also Top Shop low rise bootcut jeans with heels. Loved that look. Oh to be a size 8 again.

BigPussyEnergy · 16/06/2024 21:59

My peach puffball skirt or a little mini rara skirt made from the top of a pair of jeans with a Broderie anglaise frill and a boho blue striped frill. Loved it!

lightsandtunnels · 16/06/2024 22:00

My gorgeous floaty blue dress that DH put in the fucking tumble dryer and RUINED IT!

INeedAMumMoan · 16/06/2024 22:01

Well if my wish also included me being slim enough to still fit in it…
id bring back a black satin zip up top I had, the zip could be as high or as low as your mood desired ( or as many diamond whites I’d drank!)
I use to call it my Pammy top as although I say so myself my tits looked pretty spectacular in it!

Snackpocket · 16/06/2024 22:06

My Miss Sixty pointy denim just under knee boots, that had a little pocket on them. Or my Red of Dead white peep toe wedges with black hearts on. Regret getting rid of both. I’d probably never wear either but I could just look at them.

MummyJ12 · 16/06/2024 22:06

A strapless stretchy shimmery midi dress that my mum bought me for Christmas (to wear on NYE) 1997. It was £50 from Next, which was steep in ‘97! My uni friends called it my magic dress because I got lots of attention wearing it from guys.
It was brown and just past the knee so on paper, it shouldn’t have worked, never mind being as fabulous as it was!

AbstemiousBreakfast · 16/06/2024 22:14

Slate grey wide legged casual trousers from White Stuff I think. I had them when I started my previous job in 2007. I be someone has a pair in their bottom drawer somewhere.

Slightly weird flat black leather shoes that Schuh used to sell. They were very cool.

Wide legged dark denim jeans from Oasis.

katmarie · 16/06/2024 22:16

Oooooh, my black crushed velvet floor length maxi skirt from tammy girl that I got when I was about 15. I bloody loved that skirt.

A dark purple velvet mini dress I had when I was 16. It was a size eight, and it was tiny.

Also a pair of low waisted Bench boot cut jeans with a buckle waist, I had when I was about 19. They were my Saturday night jeans until they absolutely wore out.

Sadly none of these things would fit me now, but I'd love to have them all back.

JamMakingWannaBe · 16/06/2024 22:17

A soft pink polo neck jumper from Next. It was woolen but it wasn't at all itchy and washed well and was gorgeously flattering and went with EVERYTHING.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/06/2024 22:29

I have one !

It's my wardrobe. I open the door and look in and think "I remember that, I wore it when I saw The Who." and then there are those fringed Monkee boots - i don't suppose I'll wear those again...
.

LightDrizzle · 16/06/2024 22:32

A Miss Selfridge simple sleeveless loosely skimming shift dress I looked the bombom in it and I was so sad when it eventually died. It wasn’t expensive.

Candleabra · 16/06/2024 22:34

The entire Oasis shop in about 1999/2000.
I loved the clothes then, I could always find something gorgeous.
I literally have no idea where to buy nice clothes now 😭

WeRateSquirrels · 16/06/2024 22:35

Gap western bootcut jeans.

Beamur · 16/06/2024 22:36

My green suede jacket. Loved that jacket so much. Bought it second hand. Wore it for years. Had it refurbished but it eventually gave up the ghost and perished. Literally.

stayathomer · 16/06/2024 22:41

Like people above pair of bootcut jeans, and a pair of scrappy flat sandals that went with EVERYTHING!!!Also I used to have a nice selection of work trousers. I also had a corduroy army green jacket and a safe black top … Jesus my current day wardrobe doesn’t compare to what I used to have (I now live in tracksuit bottoms and anything I can find) and none of them were even expensive, mostly pennys

Mines an Ossie Clark too. The wrap around pink crepe skirt, the one I gave to the charity shop. Oh and the Brown’s silk shirt, also donated.

All those people who say “If you haven’t worn it for a year you never will” just don’t know what they are talking about. It doesn’t matter if you don’t wear it, it just needs to be in your wardrobe.
