Rich, comforting moisturiser - which one?

I need a thick, creamy luxuriant (ideally without the high price tag) moisturiser suitable for nightly use, to seal in my active skincare (Medik8 retinol and SR Good Genes, alternate nights).

Non or lightly-scented would be preferred, and ideally suitable for sensitive skin. Budget not over £25, I plan to slather this on with abandon when I find the right one.

Doesn’t need to have any anti-ageing bells and whistles as I prefer to keep my actives separate.

Please tell me that Sunday Riley wouldn’t be worth spending my money on, as otherwise I’ll probably go bankrupt.

Hit me with your favourites.

I have really sensitive but spot prone skin and find the Ordinary moisturising factors really good. I've also recently discovered these Face Facts bargain products from savers that are cerave dupes, but somehow irritate my skin even less. Sometimes less is more. www.savers.co.uk/b/Face%20facts

Slugging is also good for a boost.

I love the M&S Pure day cream, got a couple of jars of it in beauty boxes. Although it's a day cream it's lovely and thick so I use it at night after my tret. It's not scented, didn't realise they do a sleep cream too, off to look!

Good old blue Nivea is great, really cheap and I can even use it as an eye cream on my ridiculously sensitive eyes.

I’be used and like the Naturally Good Nivea (also blue pot) but the original is too scented and i get irritation when I layer with other products sadly.

Vaseline slugging…… never tried it but I don’t think I could tolerate the feel of it all over my face. Never say never though, I know many swear by it.

Vaseline slugging

Sounds horrid, I couldn't even bare Charlotte Tilbury's night cream which has that sort of texture.

NewbieSM · 15/06/2024 09:39

Another vote for cerave, really good if you use acids or tret, and it's cheap! La Roche posay and Bioderma have great moisturisers too

RenaissanceBaby · 15/06/2024 09:47

Cerave and Illyoon are strong contenders so far. I do love LRP but the tubes tend to be small.
loads of great inspiration though so thanks everyone!

Nivea Q10 night cream, I've really sensitive skin and find a lot of creams sting and make it go red and sore or worse I want to rip my face off! Nivea doesn't.

Shinyandnew1 · 15/06/2024 11:30

I can’t get any of the M+S links people have posted to work-is that just me??

The Revolution Pro miracle cream from Amazon is lovely-have just bought a second pot!

Yes, this is actually the problem I’m having with moisturisers and sunscreens in particular. There’s a certain ingredient (preservative or fragrance I imagine) my skin reacts to, and I get a lot of irritation and stinging. Fancy moisturisers are more likely to do this so I try and keep it simple, at the moment I’m just using Trilogy rosehip oil but I need something a bit richer.

Weirdly my skin is fine with strong actives (acids, retinol, even prescription Tret which caused my entire face to flake off), no irritation tho!) it’s something else that makes it go batshit.

I’ll look at QVC. I wish I wasn’t a skincare geek, it’s addictive

I'm the same!
Fine with vitamin C, retinal/tret, and acids.
But I bought a beautiful night cream from Lumene (love their stuff) and it ate my face. Used it as handcream in the end.
Have to say, the M&S sleep cream was the same for me sadly.

Don’t even talk to me about Lumene! Exactly the same reaction, I was gutted. Yep the M&S Stuff I have used before but I think it’s just too “much” for what I need it for. I need a kind of bland, rich, inoffensive formula like a comfort blanket.

Cerave is good. Here is my routine that I follow:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Evening:
Cerave moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

ASighMadeOfStone · 15/06/2024 12:23

Another "plain" cream which was nice was the Sali Hughes Cream Drench.

SoapCollector · 15/06/2024 12:45

E45 or any plain emollient cream?

bryceQ · 15/06/2024 13:24

Actually this one is nice too

Boots No 7's night cream is lovely.

JustGettingStarted · 16/06/2024 09:51

I like that Revolution Miracle Cream, too. It's a dupe for the Bobbi Brown cream, which I also have. I think they're very comparable and wouldn't recommend paying more for the BB.

I use it under my makeup.

Sugar House Organics 22 Cream. Very moisturising without being greasy.

Aveena.

Apileofballyhoo · 16/06/2024 17:45

Avene tolerance balm is my favourite. It's not actually a balm, just a rich moisturiser. Like everything else has gone up in price but still 3 for 2 in boots every now and then and discounted on look fantastic or any of those type sites from time to time so I never pay full price. I tend to pay about €16-18 for 40ml. CeraVe and La Roche Posay became too irritating for me.

No 7 have a newish cream out that I picked up on a €12 Tuesday, Derm Solutions 100 hour hydration cream for dry and sensitive skin. 50ml tube, might be a bit silicone heavy but I am quite happy with it. I wouldn't pay the usual €30 for it though but it's definitely worth the discounted price and I got another one for €20 recently.
