Rich, comforting moisturiser - which one?

I need a thick, creamy luxuriant (ideally without the high price tag) moisturiser suitable for nightly use, to seal in my active skincare (Medik8 retinol and SR Good Genes, alternate nights).

Non or lightly-scented would be preferred, and ideally suitable for sensitive skin. Budget not over £25, I plan to slather this on with abandon when I find the right one.

Doesn’t need to have any anti-ageing bells and whistles as I prefer to keep my actives separate.

Please tell me that Sunday Riley wouldn’t be worth spending my money on, as otherwise I’ll probably go bankrupt.

Hit me with your favourites.

Illiyoon Ceramide is my Tretinoin go to cream. Get it from Yes Style or Style Vana. It's a big bottle

DontThinkJustDo · 14/06/2024 23:35

I use Astral. I love it, it's just thick enough to need a gentle massage to absorb and it really makes a difference to my parched skin. Smells neutral and cheap as chips.

ClimbingMounjaro · 14/06/2024 23:49

Weleda Skin Food. Not the light one. The original is thick and so nourishing.

I use this alternate with Kiehl's which is high budget, but I've used Skin Food for years and totally love it. Think it's around a tenner

Bumbleebeetree · 15/06/2024 06:56

Dream cream from Lush is lovely. Think it's £16.

L’Oréal age perfect (white tub) and L’Oréal midnight crème (black tub) are both excellent imo. I was surprised but really rate them both. My skin looks amazing after a months use. Bought them on offer and now would absolutely rebuy!! I am much younger than the target age - I think they are for 50s but I’m in my 30s and the hydration & glow is EPIC.

RenaissanceBaby · 15/06/2024 07:41

Some great recommendations here thanks! 🙏 I’ve literally just put in an order with Stylevana for sunscreen, wish I’d posted this first …..!

Never heard of the L’Oréal midnight creme, I’ll take a look! Weleda was also on my list as it’s always rated on here.

I've just discovered the M&S sleep cream and think it's lovely

ASighMadeOfStone · 15/06/2024 07:57

You don't need a fancy moisturizer.

I use Astral/blue Nivea when my skin is dry and La Roche Posay Toleriane Riche on normal nights.
I also have some Weleda Skin Food and LRP Cicaplast Baume.

I've found as I've got older that highly perfumes creams irritate my skin but all of these, though slightly scented in some cases, aren't overpowering or irritating.

Portish · 15/06/2024 07:59

Check out QVC, they do great deals on bundles of high end skincare. It can save you a fortune.
I second the M&S sleep one too.

Yes, this is actually the problem I’m having with moisturisers and sunscreens in particular. There’s a certain ingredient (preservative or fragrance I imagine) my skin reacts to, and I get a lot of irritation and stinging. Fancy moisturisers are more likely to do this so I try and keep it simple, at the moment I’m just using Trilogy rosehip oil but I need something a bit richer.

Weirdly my skin is fine with strong actives (acids, retinol, even prescription Tret which caused my entire face to flake off), no irritation tho!) it’s something else that makes it go batshit.

I’ll look at QVC. I wish I wasn’t a skincare geek, it’s addictive

I used to love this! Probably wouldn’t put it on my face but it’s a beautiful cream. Might get some for old time’s sake!

I slather on CeraVe moisturising cream after using tret. It's affordable and does a great job.

Which one? They have a few.

I go for this in the colder months:

La Roche Posay toleriane riche

and this in the warmer months:

Byoma gel moisturiser

I haven't tried the Byoma rich moisturiser yet - it looks promising.

sashagabadon · 15/06/2024 08:29

I too like M&S sleep cream and another one they do. Maybe £20?

OrangeBlossom28 · 15/06/2024 08:31

@RenaissanceBaby The moisturising cream that doesn't have any SPF. I buy it in a huge tub.

Ws2210 · 15/06/2024 08:32

Another vote for cereve. I use their lotion in the morning and as a buffer for my tret. And then I slather their thicker cream (the one in the tub) on at night or over tret.

I also like vanicream. They have a v thick cream in a tub which is a little too thick for me but I use it on my crusty elbows! Their light lotion is great for my face though. I put on a super thick layer and then it slowly sinks in to nothing.

Both cereve and vanicream are great for sensitive and acne prone skin (which is me 😭)

This one? On sale at ASOS btw.

@RenaissanceBaby yes that's the one. It's my HG of moisturisers!

Ws2210 · 15/06/2024 08:56

That's the one!

BuggeryBumFlaps · 15/06/2024 08:57

Aldi Caviar day cream. I used to use either Elemis or Estée Lauder but the price tags became a bit too much. So switched to that a few years ago as a temporary stop gap, but it's so lovely I've stuck with it

I use this one. So good, cheap and the tub lasts forever! I still have a little left but have also bought this one for summer and for daytimes. It is thinner and less heavy and I layer an oil over at night (equal mix of rosehip, black seed oil and caster oil). I’m also a tret user.

JustGettingStarted · 15/06/2024 09:04

Have you tried "slugging?" That's just a layer of vaseline on at night. It won't irritate or clog pores. It seals in the moisture and I wake up dewy in the morning.

Baxdream · 15/06/2024 09:07

I have a link that gives you £10 off your first qvc order and they have a special on Sunday Riley at the moment! I ordered this morning

Baxdream · 15/06/2024 09:08

This is the deal
