Do you have reserved seats? If so, bear in mind that you will be putting your bag on the floor under your seat. If you are going to be on Henman Hill, you will be sitting on grass. How much do you want to take with you? We are taking small bottles of water and a couple of cans of alcohol each plus food for lunch. You also need a sun hat and a cardigan / jacket. Unless you are having a posh day out, you might want something bigger.

I've found the problem with raffia bags, is if you are in a sleeveless garment, the raffia chafes and you end up with a sore arm.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 12/06/2024 17:08

Reserved seats. But that’s a very good point about the ground. I never put good bags on the floor, but don’t fancy sitting with it on my lap either… arrrggh.

Will have a dress with sleeves so the rubbing shouldn’t be a problem. For casual wear I would always take a small back pack , but this is going to be smarter. Centre court.

Wanted something summery ..
The Cos bag comes in oversized…but I’m short..

Any help or suggestions greatly received 🙏

I wouldn't take an expensive bag (unless you are VIPing it). You spend a lot of time walking, stood in queues, sat on the floor, bag will need to go on the floor possibly squashed under a.seat when watching the tennis. You are out and abouf for hours and hours including travel time. I always take a rucksack and wear trainers. You'll also need practical clothes, a hat/sun protection, something if it rains etc etc.

AbraAbraCadabra · 12/06/2024 17:12

Centre court isn't any more smart than any of the other courts.

TheTripThatWasnt · 12/06/2024 17:16

I'd definitely take something you can fit water/snacks, an extra layer of clothing (I'd have said something waterproof, but I see you're on Centre Court - it's still quite a walk to/from the station though...), an umbrella, something to sit on (in case you want to sit on Henman Hill), a bottle of sunscreen, a portable phone charger... Doesn't mean it has to be a massive bag, but probably bigger than either of those. I'd go with a nice cross body bag, but not raffia (particularly if you are in the rain).

AbraAbraCadabra · 12/06/2024 17:17

Google "Wimbledon crowd images". Most people are generally wearing very normal "family day out" clothes. Unless you are going to a dress coded restaurant there or are in a VIP area like the royal box.

bergamotorange · 12/06/2024 17:18

You don't need to be smart on centre court, a rucksack would be much better.

Main thing is take a hat and sunglasses and suncream, plus a brolly and raincoat! And food.

Dearover · 12/06/2024 17:22

I had a Kanken when I had front row seats for Centre Court. I took the same Kanken last year when I was up in the gods. It needed to be big enough for a shawl (protecting against the sun or for warmth in the shade), a jacket for the inevitable rain, a water bottle, sunscreen, snacks etc.

Comfy shoes are also vital a there is a lot of queuing and going up and down stairs.

Obviously if you're in the Royal Box that will be different as you don't get to see any of the tennis anyway as you're whisked away for afternoon tea.

Are you in the debenture seats, OP?

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 12/06/2024 17:44

Are you in the debenture seats, OP?

Yes I am, hence my anxiety about it!

Not planning on eating in a fine dining place but don’t want to look out of place.
Lots of help , thank you.

I used something like this - it’s coated so you can put it on the floor no problem, room inside for umbrella, sunglassss, thin cardi etc.

SheilaFentiman · 12/06/2024 17:48

The area is smartish, but not ridiculously so. I would, for example, be happy in floaty linen trousers and flat sandals, but not in trainers, say.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 12/06/2024 17:49

Ah that’s a good shout @SheilaFentiman, were you in the debenture seats?

Sorry crossed posts.

No worries :-)

Dearover · 12/06/2024 17:59

Have fun!

Franticbutterfly · 12/06/2024 18:08

First one. Looks much more expensive than it is.

OP posts:
Franticbutterfly · 12/06/2024 18:21

@FormerlySpeckledyHen Order both and make the decision once you've seen them/tried with your outfit?

I prefer the smaller one though.

Sandwichgen · 12/06/2024 19:00

I would take something that can shrug off rain. Or put a carrier bag (Fortnums, obv ;)) inside so you can put the entire bag into it when the heavens open on your way from the station

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 12/06/2024 19:33

So, I’ve packed the Dune bag ready to go back and ordered the small Cos one. Packing a plastic bag too is a great idea!

Actually, to look really smart, I think you want a Longchamps shopper (similar price to your more expensive raffia bag but more weather resistant) or a battered Birkin covered in stickers: good, capacious bags that can withstand the elements

Sandwichgen · 12/06/2024 20:33

The good old Longchamp is really having a moment. bet you can give it a good scrub, too.
