Dress Help - Guest at Indian Wedding

NeedWineNow · 04/06/2024 13:11

Hi All

Would this dress be suitable as a guest to an Indian wedding in the late summer? We've been invited to arrive mid-morning and understand it will be going on until later in the evening.

I did look at various websites but I don't want to look as though I'm wearing fancy dress! We've got quite a long drive so wanted something comfortable for travelling as well. It comes in dark green or dark blue if this colour wouldn't be right.

Alternatively, what about this?

LAURIE JUMPSUIT METALLIC BRONZE (onjenu.com)

Freemans dress is lovely, you'll look gorgeous! Deffo wear some big chunky earrings, the bigger the better for an Asian wedding!

NeedWineNow · 08/06/2024 13:55

@unstableunicorn Thank you. I was looking at my jewellery this morning and I have some fabulous long rose gold diamante ones. Didn't look quite as good when I was wearing my dressing gown but will hopefully look better with the dress!

If you're going to the religious ceremony , maybe a scarf/dupatta to cover your hair if required.

MasterOfCake · 09/06/2024 09:28

If you’re not Asian you really don’t need to worry about having an Asian style dress on. The dress and jumpsuit in your OP are absolutely perfect for an Indian wedding.

That being said, if you want this to be the opportunity for you to wear Indian clothes, then go for it!

They all are fine for an Indian wedding, you need to pick what would look best on you, also if you are going to wear it again. Sleeveless are fine in Indian weddings.

willWillSmithsmith · 09/06/2024 10:10

I went to my friend’s Indian wedding a few years ago and wore a blue silk, full length, wide-legged jump suit (vest top style). Maybe something like that?

NeedWineNow · 10/06/2024 17:39

Quick update : the Freemans dress has arrived and it is lovely. It really shimmers and the sleeves are really light and floaty which will be great if it is (hopefully) hot. No photos I'm afraid, as I look dreadful and about 20lbs heavier!

All your choices are beautiful @NeedWineNow - you have excellent taste! I especially love all the dresses on your second post and the one you've chosen is perfect.

mitogoshi · 11/06/2024 07:21

There's some amazing fashion type dresses, if you are in an area with Asian clothing retailers do go in person. Beading, sequins etc are the way to go, but dress shape doesn't need to be complicated

NeedWineNow · 11/06/2024 08:09

@EllaPaella Thank you!

@mitogoshi Thank you. I'm intending to get a dupatta but thought I'd take my dress to get a good colour match or contrast - we've got some shops that I can get to (and of course there might be something I like better!).

Some beautiful dresses! Ive just bought one of the Onjenu ones for an event - didn't know about them. Thank you!

pontipinemum · 11/06/2024 13:57

It's fab I think you made a great choice. I have never been to an Indian wedding but this looks beautiful, does have glam about it and is well covered which is safer when you are unsure. Also I would wear that to other events

Decision made, Freemans dress ordered! It's something I can definitely wear again - we're cruising next year so I will be packing it for that trip. I'm very tempted to get the last outfit as well for our cruise but will park that for the moment (I should really try and clear some bits out of my wardrobe first LOL!).

Fantastic choice it looks lovely!

NeedWineNow · 11/06/2024 21:27

@curious79 you are very welcome! I love to know that others like one of my favourite companies. Onjenu are a great company and their dresses are so comfortable. I have several.

What are you thinking about accessories wise?

I’m thinking big gold earrings and then any other jewellery should be very subtle.

littlekipling · 11/06/2024 22:38

It's gorgeous and you look so good in it. Have fun!!

Busybeemumm · 11/06/2024 22:48

Wow thank you @NeedWineNow for posting an update and picture. You look gorgeous and fits you perfectly. Excellent choice! I'm not sure you will even need a dupatta with it as it might hide some of your dress and jewellery. In Hindu weddings you won't need to cover your head.

purplemunkey · 11/06/2024 22:56

Gorgeous

NeedWineNow · 12/06/2024 09:36

@Chewinggumwall those earrings are fab! I'll definitely be looking to wear something like those.
