Is tights and open toed shoe OK or not? Debate going on with my mum.

What's your thoughts?

No

Isthisreasonable · 04/06/2024 07:35

Never ok

Beamur · 04/06/2024 07:36

No.

ViaRia01 · 04/06/2024 07:40

Well I agree it’s not ideal but I have done it. Either:

  • opaque tights with black shoes which I actually think it’s fine tbh as long as no holes or dodgy looking toes.
  • nude tights with open toes shoes but more like peep toe, or just not too much toe on show.

I personally find shoes with no socks unbearably uncomfortable and much prefer to have tights on if I can get away with it.

It doesn’t look good if the toe opening is quite wide and you have 3 or more whole toes on display with tights on.

out of interest, is it you or your mother who is team-tights?

MaryFuckingFerguson · 04/06/2024 07:41

No. It gives me the heebie jeebies.

TheChosenTwo · 04/06/2024 07:43

Ooh that’s a big no from me!

HowDoYouSpellThat · 04/06/2024 07:45

I've done it! I had some wedge slider type shoes from whistles and wore them with black tights. It looked kinda cool imo.

Amsx · 04/06/2024 07:50

Hell no

heartsinvisiblefury · 04/06/2024 07:51

No!

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 04/06/2024 07:51

No never - that’s the worst

pootlingalongagain · 04/06/2024 08:15

I've certainly done it but I know lots of people don't agree with it. Black / opaque tights with cool sandals/ wedges can definitely look nice / on trend.

NashvilleQueen · 04/06/2024 08:23

Never ok in my opinion. That includes those awful tights that have separate holes for the toes.

It's either warm enough to go bare legged or not. If not wear a closed toe shoe or boot.

NashvilleQueen · 04/06/2024 08:24

Strappy sandals and opaque black tights also gives 'strictly rehearsal' vibes.

SaltyGod · 04/06/2024 08:28

No, it’s never ok

TheFlis · 04/06/2024 08:34

No. A friend of mine does this and it always looks awful.

ZombieBoob · 04/06/2024 08:40

I'm team no mum is team yes. I googled it and there's loads saying it's fine

SilverHairedCat · 04/06/2024 08:41

Absolutely no bloody way. I'm in my 40s. My mum in her 70s would probably say it's fine too.

But this is the woman who used to make me wear a slip under my school skirt in the 90s.....

theDudesmummy · 04/06/2024 08:42

No no no

Delawear · 04/06/2024 08:45

Just do whatever is comfortable. I don’t personally mind how other people wear their clothing.

Moonshine5 · 04/06/2024 08:45

Only if it's high fashion

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 04/06/2024 08:46

I know lots of older women who wear tights or pop socks with sandals (usually skin coloured so not very obvious) - they want to wear sandals but don't feel comfortable with bare feet for whatever reason. I don't think they're wrong to please themselves, and really very few people are going to notice let alone judge. They've got their reasons, let them get on with it.

Moonshine5 · 04/06/2024 08:46

Having said that on Sunday I saw some Japanese tourists in Soho on Sunday rocking that look and they definitely pulled it off.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 04/06/2024 08:47

Not OK.

hennybeans · 04/06/2024 08:48

I have some Dr Marten white leather sandals with a chunky black platform base and I wear tights with them because they tear my feet up otherwise.
I think this is the kind of look you can wear if you’re young and/or a bit quirky.

I wouldn’t wear tights with any other open toe shoes tough, and especially not if I was going for a dressed up look at a wedding/races, etc.
